How the fuck could you possibly know Obama wouldn't be where he is if he was white? It's just a STUPID hypothetical

is there any way to back that up? no! Ferraro was just being a little bitch, so she came up with a stupid hypothetical that obviously tricked a few morons out there into believing in a parallel universe somewhere barack obama is white, his name is jerry smith, and he can't run for president

let me note that those were Bob Johnson's comments, founder of BET...a BLACK man said those things

and yeah you cant obviously know hypotheticals like what if this or what if that

but if you honestly think a freshman white senator would have 90% of the black vote, you're a complete retard

but if you get a chance i'd still like to know why someone who compliments obama's speaking ability and happens to be white is a racist

The fact that Bob Johnson, who is BLACK, said that means absolutely nothing to me.

As far as "nice" politics goes, I do believe that Obama will lighten up on the negativity once he's able to get past Hillary. I'm sure that some of her tactics have forced his hand. He couldn't just take it; some would argue that he's too weak and not tough enough if he didn't do anything. It also doesn't help that negative campaigning has an effect on the average American. It sucks, yeah, but he's smart enough to know that he needs to change the game plan a bit.

I do think an Obama/Mccain matchup would be fairly civil, probably to the chagrin of the GOP, who would want to employ the same kitchen sink tactics that Hillary has done. If McCain begins to get overly negative, I expect Obama to do the same, and spin it so it comes off that he's doing very little. I don't expect Obama to jump the gun and go negative first though.

common sense says no. However, terp has a quick trigger on racism but blindly ignores a real example of one.

My comment will be called racist, no doubt. But If I said i was voting for McCain bc he is white, I think most would consider me racist. But somehow the inverse isnt true. Why is that?

I would expect a certain amount of pride within the group to propel the numbers higher, no doubt. But if he was white, he would not automatically have 90% of the black vote. Anyone being honest with themselves will admit that.

Oh terp, your comments on Wright still leave me dizzy. Is it true you work at a lawyers office?

terp care to share your own opinion about whether a white freshman senator would have 90% of the black vote in a hypothetical situation

and if you feel up to answering that, i'd still be interested in your opinion of why a white person complimenting obama's speaking abilities would be deemed a racist...i personally feel its a slap in the face to obama, who worked hard and became one of the best political speakers in the last few years by his own hard work, for someone to label someone complimenting him for his hard work as a racist...its that type of shit that keeps negative stereotypes in place imo

Ill sit back and wait for your comments... This should be interesting.. of course you will just ignore it and not address the question.

I never said if someone says Obama speaks will, they're racist. It's a classic case of you taking something I said out of context, and spinning it to whatever you want it to mean. I was talking about one particular person who has a history of making patronizing statements about minorities and poor people. So yeah, the OH HE SPEAKS SO WELL, BUT THAT IS IT statement definitely had some racial subtext there

and

90% of the black vote didn't come until Bill and Hillary polarized the party with an assist from their friend Ferraro. Either way, I think that white freshman senator would have just as much a chance of a half white half african with a muslim name at BECOMING PRESIDENT. Hypothetically, if BARACK OBAMA could get this far, I think anyone of any color could do it. I think a Chinese guy could get 100% of the Hispanic vote, hypothetically, if that Chinese candidate ran a campaign well enough.

Seriously, Barack Obama's name might as well be Dikembe Motombo (thanks Chris Rock) - I don't think his name and race helped him. He's different, people like him. If a white guy came with a fresh attitude and a message people were trying to hear, I don't see why he couldn't be as successful.

The notion that Barack Obama's race is helping him get votes is ridiculous.

so you could see a scenario where a white freshman senator gets 90% of the black vote...ok thats your opinion i guess...i think it goes against all logic, reason, common sense and precedence, but you're entitled to your opinion

another question i'd ask...do you think hillary clinton's gender is helping her get any more female votes than another candidate might get who happens to be a male?

Personally, I do not believe Obama winning the Illinois primary has anything to do with the fact that Obama is the state's junior Senator. Likewise, Hillary winning New York was totally coincidence.

You see, I do not believe that people vote for candidates based on asinine bullshit like where they are from, how well they speak, what they look like, or even what party they're part of. I believe our country would be better if people voted based on an assessment of a candidate's policies, judgement, and character.

Since I believe it, this makes it so.

I think that overall, the fact that Obama is multi-racial has been a net positive for his campaign. He has definitely benefited from getting the vast majority of the black vote, which has turned out in droves for the primaries.

That said, in the general election his racial make-up might be a drawback.

Unfortunately for Obama, blacks represent ~12% of the population, so even if the majority of them voted, it would barely be enough, if at all, to sway the general election. Especially if the anti-black people are also motivated to vote.

Prawn, i agree with the first part of what you said.

However, in the general the ones that would be affected by his race probably werent going to vote democrat anyway. However, his policies and his peers might scare people away some moderates and independents.

"We regret to inform you that the proposed Democratic Presidential Debate scheduled for April 27 has been cancelled due to time constraints and logistical issues associated with such a large, national event.

You have shown tremendous passion and interest in being a part of history as Democrats are poised this year to elect the first female or African-American President. However, there were also growing concerns about what another debate would do to party unity [emphasis added]."

^^^Blacks represent more like 25% of the electorate in the south, and a majority of them voted in the primaries. In the general election, they will undoubtedly send some southern (ie traditional red) states in Obama's direction.

One word: turnout

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but significantly less than half of black voters actually voted in '00 and '04. It'll be quite a bit different this time around.
