to be fair, if we're going by personal finances here, McCains strategy is to have the US marry The UAE.

winner.

Golden, yeah, he can identify but also have the power to take from the successful and responsible and give to the irresponsible. THAT is why he has no business being near that position.

That's such bullshit. McCain doesn't talk about his military experience near as much as he could or, I think, should.

Also, how about the fact that he NEVER mentions that his two sons served in Iraq. Or he NEVER mentions that he and his wife adopted two black children from a third world country.

Nobody thinks that McCain is actually a bad person, but the fact is this: Being a POW and not knowing that you own 10 houses are completely unrelated and it is a shitty thing to use the POW experience to deflect anything about the latter.

This is exactly the point. McCain didn't know how many houses he has. What normal person, even a rich person, needs to do research to know how many houses they own? And McCain has been married to Cindy for like 20 years now, it's not like they just got married and he's still getting use to being married to an insanely wealthy trophy wife (and IIRC McCain's family was wealthy on their own anyway).

I don't think it's rediculous considering some of the houses are rental properties, and he isn't really involved in all of that, as he has more important things going on right now.

This "gaffe" is WAAY smaller than saying he has visited "57 states". My 3 year old nephew knows there are 50 states.

and considering he's shown he doesn't really have any idea of the social/religious intricacies surrounding a major war, when he so adamantly claims he is the most equipped to handle foreign relations, the house thing is barely a blip on the radar.......

He set the bar much higher (or lower) than that people!!

give it a rest, would you? he said - "i've now been to... 50.... 7 states. one left to go, and my staff won't allow me to go to Alaska and Hawaii". So, add it up: 57 + 1 + Alaska + Hawaii = 60. He obviously meant to say 47, so 3 more would be 50. If you listen to it, he was trying to think of how many he's been to, said 50, then paused, and added the 7 without going back to correct himself to 40. That slip up could easily be compared to Bush's "misunderestimate" or "put food on your family" or something - a slip of the tongue that would have been corrected immediately if they said it more slowly or for a 2nd time and not a sign of ignorance on a certain topic. Nothing like literally not having the knowledge of how many houses you own.

57 states was funny.

Didnt he also forget where he was at his convention last night? He said he was in st. louis when he was in kansas city.

Its not remotely relevant, like how many houses someone has, but its still pretty funny.

yeah he's pretty bad about that sometimes. I saw a post about that today (Obama's weaknesses/strenghts) that was really insightful from Jay Cost...he breaks it down pretty real in a surprisingly unbiased way

Quote :
"Jay Cost
August 25, 2008
Thoughts on the First Night

The networks did not start their coverage until 10, so their viewers only saw a media package on the Kennedy speech. Michelle Obama did not get started until around 10:40. She was done before 11. A few more thoughts from the journalists, then on to local news. After that, people saw McCain on Jay Leno.

So, my guess is that the electoral effects of tonight will be minimal. If you can be convinced by just 20 minutes of campaigning by a candidate's wife, you were probably persuaded a while ago.

Did it add to the larger campaign narrative Obama's operation wants to build? Maybe, but probably not much. I do think it was a "win" for Obama's campaign because Michelle looked great, she seemed warm and personable, their kids were adorable, and she gave a fine speech. Her brother was even appropriately nervous. That was charming. The first response from the network people all seemed positive. So, for whatever it's worth, that's a win.

Let's put aside the electoral implications - as the evening was worthwhile even if it swayed few voters. Barack Obama is an interesting candidate to watch. He has many political strengths, but they are often mixed in with his weaknesses.

Many of his strengths are not acquired skills, but rather just part of who he is. Take his speaking ability. Obama has done good work by refining his talent, but it's still mostly a gift from the Man upstairs. Ditto his family. On the night of her big debut, his wife was intelligent and likable and poised and clearly in love with her husband. His children were cute and sweet and just the perfect touch of impish.

But Obama has weaknesses, which were on display tonight as well. He had only a handful of lines, but he mixed up one he should have landed. He said he was in St. Louis when he was really in Kansas City. This kind of mistake is never a good thing. McCain said something nice about the Pittsburgh Steelers a few weeks ago, but it was a line he had initially said about the Green Bay Packers. The local paper reported the contradiction. My hunch is that it annoyed people here just a tiny bit. Obama did something similar tonight on network TV with Missouri's two largest cities. Fortunately for him, Sasha was there to bail him out!

It was a small fumble, but a fumble nonetheless. And it wasn't atypical. While Obama has many gifts, he doesn't have the best campaign discipline. The modern, mass media campaign is a grind. Excelling at it takes practice and commitment. You must remember minute details to be recalled on a moment's notice; you must be interesting and yet on message at the same time; you must smile on cue, and so on. Doing all that is an acquired skill, a discipline. Obama seems to be having a bit of a tough time with it.

That's not a deal-breaker by any stretch. Kerry had trouble with the discipline, and he lost by just 2 points. Gore couldn't quite get the rhythm right, yet he still won the popular vote. Bush is a master of the discipline, but the public doesn't listen to him anymore. The discipline is an asset, but it's not the most important one."

^ I haven't seen McCain too much on TV, but the times I have seen him, he seemed really awkward and had a strange pedosmile.

Obama OTOH just seems to be kind of tired, usually, like he hasn't been sleeping well.

Maybe I just haven't been watching their video speeches too much, but I don't see where that assessment is coming from.

I won't give it a rest as long as you all keep talking about McCain's homes. Neither statement means anything. Which is why I will keep bringing up 57 states when someone mentions the "homes" statement.

The McCain homes thing is drastically different than Obama states thing. Obama didn't have to check with his staff to know how many states there are.

"John McCain passed Barack Obama in the daily Gallup tracking poll Tuesday, suggesting the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has received no bounce after naming Joe Biden as his running mate.

The three-day average poll, taken after the vice presidential announcement Saturday, shows McCain with 46 percent and Obama at 44 percent, within the margin of error. It’s the first time since Obama sealed the nomination in June that McCain has surpassed him in the polls numerically, if not statistically.

The race for the president has been virtually tied for the last month. But an historical analysis by Gallup shows that the presidential candidates usually see a boost after the running mate announcements and then again after the conventions.

"

Consider me shocked.

I expected Obama to be up 10+ points right now given all the media attention.

Unreal about this talk about houses. Homes are basically investment property. Why would he know that answer off the cuff?

If you asked me how many shares of Exxon stock I owned I would have no idea either.

How many times I've been to Virginia?

How many times I've watched Hell's Kitchen on the BBC?

Who cares about such arbitrary questions?

Now George Bush is a fucking idiot. I can't tolerate the thing he says. He is a bonafide moron.

McCain is 70 years old and is running a campaign against a fucking video game hero. He doesn't need to be bothered with all this fucking bullshit.

And give me a break about the war stories. At one point in '04 I thought John Kerry was running for prime minister of Vietnam because every sentence contained a reference.

Also, I would vote for a black president but it would take extenuating circumstances like Colin Powell. I wouldn't vote for one who is basically the political version of affirmative action.

Doesn't Obama remind you of a black manager at work? You know the nice guy with zero substance who would be working the same job you have if he was white?

Who's crying? In fact, have I ever once posted about media bias, in either direction? I am always more concerned with reality than perception, and couldn't care less about how the media portrays candidates.

Obama has gotten a lot of good press due to his VP choice and the convention. I'm shocked that he has actually lost momentum in spite of these developments.

Bullshit. Have you been watching?

Obama is losing the media war dude. Just because he gets so much coverage doesn't make it positive coverage. It just means scrutiny, scrutiny, scrutiny. I've listened to the bullshit consistently lately and I am here to tell you the memes and themes are 1) why is Obama behind 2) why is there no bump 3) party disunity 4) his problem with working class whites.

They have defined him as aloof, elitist, and sadly-the affirmative action candidate on some of the shows (morning joe this morning, fox, a commentator on CNN last night) with not enough experience to lead the country. This is all while McCain has figured out how to use the media to his advantage with putting out negative ads that the MSM covers for the entire week.

Now who is the media darling? Unless you're watching CSPAN or PBS you're getting a mountain of shit and retarded punditry.

^ I do and in the wrong direction. A Progressive Democratic White House + A Willing, Progressive Democratic Congress? Doesn't exactly sound like good news for centrists out there.

Of course, since Obama has done literally jack in any office he's ever been elected to, except running for even higher office, it's hard to say how he will govern. He likes to drop hints that he's more centrist than his rhetoric sounds, but do did GW Bush. If he is just saying this shit for the base, how do we know when he will stop running for election/re-election? His second term??
