You guys have very weird taste in music. I dl just about every cd linked in this thread and usually delete it within 5 minutes.

The random quality of the Discovery - LP keeps me coming back, though.

After downloading the Ganglians CD...I agree....it sounds like a subpar Fleet Foxes.

Fine, then just skip over the portion where I compared them to Fleet Foxes and focus on where I compared them to Woods, and the rest of the criticisms remain the same...

(or take out Woods, and then substitute in The Besnard Lakes)

interesting comparison. i didn't think much of that woods album at all. i will give it another listen though. as a big besnard lakes fan though, i have to say that other than the falsetto vocals, i don't see the likeness.

Recommend me something good. with a beat and some rhythm that rocks a bit. something that'll inspire me to play guitar and rock out and make music. actually something with added electronic flair would be a bonus. I'll soon have my little studio setup. I'll have guitar, electronic drum kit, and soft synth/electronic stuff

no more of this beach boys in the bathroom crap.

A lot of stuff by The Mars Volta always makes me want to pick up my guitar. They have just about the best rhythm and flow of any rock band out there right now:

The Mars Volta - Viscera Eyes (I know its long but really listen to the whole thing as it really crescendos) Off the albumAmputechture
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gECaXosNqtQ

The Mars Volta - L'Via L'Viaquez. Off the album Frances the Mute
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2ayKK8E7gc

The Mars Volta - Drunkship of Lanterns. Off the albumDe-Loused in the Comatorium
http://www.last.fm/music/The+Mars+Volta/_/Drunkship+of+Lanterns (stream in the upper right)

Other favorites to play guitar to:

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream (I shouldnt have to link anything haha).

Cave In - Inspire. off of the album Antenna
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aoazoZPrlI

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch. Off their album Swoon that came out this year.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG8fugqFn9Q

You might not get into any of that though /shrug

I learned most of Siamese Dream in 8-9th grade. BUT i haven't played that in probably 10 years and it does sound like fun. I'm just picking the guitar up again after a 5 year hiatus, so i'm probably about as good as i was then.

What are everyone's favorites of the years so far and what are you looking forward to in the 2nd half of 2009?

I think White Rabbits may end up having my favorite CD of the year at the halfway point. I keep flip flopping between that, Grizzly Bear and Jason Lytle. On any day, it's one of those three for me.

That being said, I still haven't had a chance to listen to the new Dirty Projectors, and a few others that I'm sure I'll enjoy.

Just off the top of my head, I think my most anticipated leak for the 2nd half of '09 is the Midlake album.

sunset rubdown's definitely the top of the list for me for 2009. animal collective and dan deacon as well. i could never really get into grizzly bear, sadly. i still need to check out dirty projectors and that white rabbits album. also the deerhunter EP is pretty good.

hard to really order them because the styles are so extremely varying, but probably my top 10 favorites this year so far:

The Mars Volta - Octahedron
Isis - Wavering Radiant
Coalesce - Ox
mewithoutYou - It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All a Dream! It's Alright
El grupo de omar rodriguez lopez - Cryptomnesia
Silversun Pickups - Swoon
Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha
Obscura - Cosmogenesis
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post-Pavillion
Sun O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions

Looking forward the most to:
-Sundrone
-Between the Buried and Me
-Cave-In
-Converge
-He Is Legend
-Deftones (though I think they are pushing this album into '10)
-Advent

Hey everyone,

this is my first post....but I've been watching this thread for awhile now.

I just wanted to ask if anybody has a leak to the new album Stellastarr* Civilized

also...this would be an old album...but I can't find it anywhere and it has a song on it that just hits me...I can only listen to it off last fm.. It's by a broken up band called "The Morning Benders" and the album name is "grain of salt"

so far 2009: I'll concur the Animal Collective is one of my favorites thus far for 2009. Asobi Seksu had a song "new years" that gets played on a walk. Connor Oberst album outer south had a few good songs. That Discovery Lp, I did enjoy. Fever Ray, thumbs up. Handsome furs, good tunes. Jason Lytle is just amazing.
But fav fav....probably sigur ros -we play endlessly or the wooden birds-magnolia

sunset rubdown (dragonslayer) is far and away my favorite album this year. it's in a league of its own, and it would be unjust of me to list a second favorite.

2. Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha
3. whatever

Favorite song is still "The More That I Do" from the Field.

^^^
that sigur ros album is just a compilation of songs released since ().

The albums that I've listened to the most this year have been Fanfarlo, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, St. Vincent, and Regina Spektor. A bunch of others I have enjoyed, though; not really ready to start picking favorites.

I know, it just gives me a reason to put them on the top of the list again.

Also...this came out in the beginning of 2009, does anyone have the new Iain Archer album? The pine roots....or actually any of his albums. I might have to take another go at searching for it again, but I couldn't find it as of last week.
