Prado has gotten a lot better over the past year working with Glenn Hubbard once it became clear he was the 2B of the future, but he is still only average.
As for the Braves, they have great pitching, okay hitting (good OBP, but zero power or clutch hitting), and piss poor defense. How many teams lose games solely because of shit defense three times in two weeks? 8/10/2010 1:52:00 PM |

He landed awkwardly on his left leg after making a Derek Jeter He-Man throw from foul territory trying to prove to rflong he's still got it. Left the game limping, said it was his knee, maybe not as bad as it looked. 8/10/2010 9:57:54 PM |

Ha ha I was thinking when he made that play "Damn I called out Chipper a game too soon". That was a great play, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.
Nevertheless the defense decided to shit the bed huge again last night and if it weren't for old Conrad, it would have been the Braves 4th loss caused by defense in the last 2 or so weeks. McCann should have caught that ball from Gonzalez in the bottom of the 8th and Infante should have made the play at 2nd. Both guys got in bad position. Gonzalez could have made better throws too, but neither throw was uncatchable.
Also the broken bat grounder that got under Glaus's glove later in that inning was just plain embarassing. I was glad to hear the announcers ripping on the Braves for their shoddy defense. 26 errors since the All Star break leads the majors and 17 in the last 11 games
As for Chipper, I think this is major, just my gut. MRI scheduled for today. It sucks because he was really in a groove and he and McCann were finally carrying the offense especially with Prado out. Hopefully Brooks can carry the load until Prado is back and then Infante can platoon.
Also why the hell can't the Braves hit damn JA Happ. Dude owns the Braves like Seinfeld owns porsches.

I think the first grand slam may have been Conrad's GS against the Reds.
Conrad has 2. Prado has 1. McCann has 1. I don't know who has the 5th.

McCann has been tearing shit up since he won the All Star game. Also news sounds slightly optimistic on Chipper. MRI is tomorrow, but supposedly the knee did not swell up too bad. Fingers crossed.

Soft grounder to third base, Conrad charges but the ball skips under his hand. The guy would have been safe even if Conrad gets the ball.

I doubt it
His OPS is higher than Chipper's, and he's pulled up his average since the break. But if he's in the lineup every day, the league is going to catch up to him quick and shut him down. 162 games and he's batting 220/300/400, plus his defense sucks (which means he's above average for this team)8/11/2010 5:19:26 PM |

Wagner now has 7 blown saves on the season, which is the 2nd highest in the national league, I'm going to guess that Brad Lidge is number 1 in that category. Venters should be the closer. 8/11/2010 8:53:56 PM |

It's actually Tyler Clippard, which isn't really fair because he's blowing them in like the 7th or 8th.
Wagner's blown 2 on unearned runs, and he looks like he's still pitching pretty well. For the month he still has a 2.57 ERA and 7 Ks in 7 IP. He might need some rest or something, but I think he'll be alright. 8/11/2010 9:02:32 PM |

Prado has played nearly as many innings at third as Infante has over their careers. I don't see why you'd move Prado off second, though. Neither has much range, but Infante probably has the better arm. 8/12/2010 12:49:06 PM |

Damn that sucks, but it was pretty obvious that it was a serious injury. Wonder if he'll even consider coming back. I know he would not want his career to end like that.
Prado is probably the best short term answer at 3B. Writers at the AJC are saying that he is the better of the two between in Infante at 3B. Either way Infante just got even more PT. Maybe the Braves can go after a guy like Pedro Feliz, i.e. a guy that has sucked this year, but is good defensively and has shown he can hit. 8/12/2010 1:30:05 PM |

I think if we go after anyone on waivers, the emphasis has to be on defense. Maybe a lite version of Infante, someone who can at least play third and short. I trust the offense enough and pitching (apart from a spotty Wagner) has been great lately.

Best OBP in the league. The problem is not getting men on, it's getting them in.

sometime when the team is up against it and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go out there with all they've got and win just one for the Chipper.

I can't see a GM as cautious as Wren taking on a Figgins contract that is now looked upon so poorly by every front office in the league. Especially since Wren is careful not to upset clubhouse chemistry.
After the way they played the Phils this week, I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade for Casey Blake 8/12/2010 2:12:52 PM |

I was talking to a guy last night about what the Braves should do and he said put Glaus at 3B and call up Freeman. While I like the idea of having Freeman available down the stretch, putting Glaus at 3B makes me want to
I hope Chipper rehabs and decides to come back for one more season. I'd hate to see him go out like that. Maybe Cox will decide to return if Chipper returns. It seems like those two need to retire together.
Also thanks to fat ass Broxton and Casey Blake for gift wrapping a win for the Phillies. How the fuck do you blow a 9-2 in the course of two innings? The Phillies are playing way over their head given that Howard, Victorino, and Utley are all out. The return of Polanco has made a huge impact on that lineup. I am going to curse him too. Polanco is horrible at defense. Please blow out your ACL now. 8/13/2010 7:59:32 AM |
