no, I am not bitching... I think he deserves it, once again, just pointing it out so the idiots that think the media is against him can have a frame of reference next time that comes up
although I do find it funny that when it was the Brady vs. Peyton argument, actual QB play and/or stats werent important, the only thing that mattered was wins, so, to stay consistent logically, Rivers isnt as good as say, Matt Ryan, this year. But of course, now that its Rivers, TWW will throw out the record of the team, thats not important.
(for the record, I do NOT go by the team record argument, there is a lot more that goes into a team winning than the QB, so I DO think Rivers is playing the best QB this year, BUT just wanted to point out the TWW hypocrisy)

Argument fails. Manning has always won at least as many games as Brady. Nobody said anything about that.
Neither Ryan or Rivers has any SB rings.
I've always sided with Manning over Brady but the argument isn't remotely the same.
Also, the media was against Rivers for a long time, but now that everyone has discovered that Cultler is a whiney sulkface faggot who deserves to be taunted at every opportunity, they forgot about it. The only person who still doesn't like Rivers is Wilbon for some reason.11/22/2010 11:09:36 PM |

what? it always was that between the two...before Manning had one a Super Bowl it was "he isnt the best until he wins the Super Bowl!"
then, when he did, it was (as I predicted) "well, he needs to win more!"
but, I will go with your logic anyways... so, to be consistent, Eli is better, Rapeburger is better, they have won Super Bowls, thats all that matters for QBs!
and once more, for the record before Ernie comes in here and claims that I said the EXACT opposite: (I do NOT go by the team record argument, there is a lot more that goes into a team winning than the QB, so I DO think Rivers is playing the best QB this year, BUT just wanted to point out the TWW hypocrisy)

That's not my logic. In case you didn't read my post I just said I've always said Manning was better than Brady.
Please point out all these brady lovers on TWW though. I'd love to see them because I haven't really noticed them before.
EDIT: But again, neither Ryan or Rivers has SB rings, so just editing your argument to be about Eli doesn't make the original argument any less fail.

^^ what? they are ALL over the place on here
and I was simply changing it to match your argument that Ryan didnt count since he hasnt won a SB. So, I switched it to someone who has, who OBVIOUSLY isnt as good as Rivers to show how stupid the Brady is better than Manning because of Super Bowl wins argument is...
and I never said you felt that way, just said a lot of others on here did but they will throw that logic out now that it applies to Rivers

I get what you're saying and Manning's raw numbers are certainly better than Brady's, but Brady also had (along with Manning 2004) one of the two greatest seasons ever for a QB in the NFL and has elite numbers overall the last 6-7 years.
It's not like he is Trent Dilfer out there winning Super Bowls swinging off of Ray Lewis' nuts... he's a Hall of Famer. 11/22/2010 11:46:54 PM |

Based on match ups, 10-6 is possible. (that includes a loss @ Indy). I'm thinking they end up 9-7 and tied with KC. Hopefully they win the home game vs the Chiefs. Not sure how the tiebreakers work in that scenario. 11/22/2010 11:50:54 PM |

Nah I still think Marino's 1984 season was the best ever.
Followed by Manning, then Brady. Brady bested Manning by 1 TD but he played pretty much the whole game every year, while Manning only played like 1 series in the last game.
As for their record, I think 10-6 is most likely. They play a bunch of crappy teams with 1 good team, and the good team isn't as good as they have been recently (plus the Chargers are really good against the Colts)

Barring more devastating injuries, they will win the division at 11-5 or 10-6. They own the Colts, and the other games are all easy.
Not to put too much stock into kicking the Broncos ass, but the Chargers have played great on offense the past few weeks without Gates, VJ, Mathews or Naanee. Getting all those guys back will only make them more dangerous. And guess what? They have the top-ranked defense in the league. Normally I never bet against Manning at home in a night game, especially coming off a loss, but this is no ordinary Chargers team. They are in top form right now, plus Peyton Manning has been playing like shit since about week 5. I expect the Chargers to go to Indy and whoop that ass.

I am sure I am going to get a lot of hate, but I don't see how you can even put Rivers in the same conversation with Brady and Manning.
It's not just about wins, nor is it just about stats. There is just something almost intangible about Brady and Manning. Even when their teams are "bad", Brady and Manning have a way of putting together a season that many teams would dream of. I know a lot of this can be attributed to coaching, but there is just something special about both of those guys. I have been a Pats fan since before Bledsoe was their QB, and I can honestly say last year we were really bad. Yet somehow we still finished 10-6, a record which 50% of franchises probably haven't attained this decade (I am just guestimating on this stat to make a point). On the same token, the Chargers have had some power houses, and have stumbled in the beginning of the season and the playoffs time and time again. Is that all River's fault? Of course not, but the QB is the on-field general, and when his team is failing, he is failing (especially when he has the weapons to perform well with).
Along the same line, I think that Peyton is even in a league by himself compared to Brady. Don't get me wrong, Brady is awesome, but he is also the product if a great system. I think the only thing that keeps Brady and Manning in the same conversation is that Brady seems to be much better at protecting the ball. Obviously this is often a product of manning looking downfield much more than Brady, but Peyton does occasionally force things when he really doesn't need to.
Don't take this as a "hate on Rivers" post. He is definitely a Top 5 QB in this league, he is just not a Top 2. 11/23/2010 3:43:56 AM |

That was a Manning/Brady like jack-off session in the commentators booth tonight.
I'm not hating either. I think the fact that he's having a killer year and there was absolutely nothing else to talk about during that game (no other marquee players and the game was a laugher) led to the slobfest.
He may not get the record. The Chargers are playing better and might not need to throw it as much as they have during the beginning of the year...although the Denver game isn't the best barometer for that because they are horrible. They pulled in the reins last night after hitting 35 points. I almost get the feeling that if Cutler and company was still there that they might have thrown a little more and tried to rub it in.
I'm just hoping the Chiefs go down quietly. Even though they've cooled off, they're still better than I thought they were after their hot start. San Diego HAS to sweep the rest of their division games and probably only lose one more game for the rest of the season. They might get in at 9-7, but I think they're golden at 10-6. 11/23/2010 8:01:51 AM |

I'm an admitted Rivers fanboy, so I thoroughly enjoyed the slobfest last night. It was great to hear them talk so positively about him and not once (that I heard at least) did they paint him negatively with a reference to the Cutler incident or anything like that. I like that they pointed out a few times how he doesn't even curse and his trash talk is "PG." Hopefully all that helped to repair his erroneous [general] public image.
I wondered if Cutler was watching it and pictured him doing his patented cry-baby trifecta: shrug + frown + eye roll. Here's hoping he woke up in a cold sweat last night with flashbacks of PR beatdowns during his Bronco days. 11/23/2010 8:48:00 AM |

Is there any way that with the injuries/holdouts/special teams disasters they have had that you can say the chargers haven't been bad this year?
And do you really think the Chargers won't be 10-6?
And your guesstimated stat is bogus. A decade is a long time in the NFL, the Raiders were in the superbowl in 2004. The Chiefs went 13-3 in 2003. Seahawks 13-3 in 2005. Redskins were 10-3 in 2005. 49ers 12-4 in 2001, hell even the Browns went 10-6 once, but they missed out on the playoffs that year I think.
The only franchises who haven't gone 10-6 this decade are the Lions, Bills and Texans.
