^I wish I could afford to eat like that. I try to keep my grocery bill under $40/wk.
My basic groceries this week were:
-Steak (it was $2.94) -Chicken -Two dozen eggs -V8 vegetable/fruit juice -Soup

well.... i am hoping that when i travel next, i can just do my grocery shop in 2 parts and expense it. because i will be on the road and eating, just not at restaurants. so with it being subsidized like that, i think it'll be ok
and i just got a raise.. so if nothing else, the raise will cover my $60/wk eating habit 6/6/2010 11:14:53 PM |

^No chicken or fish?
An avocado will last me 2 days max
^^you can do it but you just have to be thrifty. Chix has to be on sale like $1.99 or less a lb. Same with red meat like london broil. Buy one get one free type shit. Just load up and freeze a bunch.
Eggs, eggs and more eggs.
Check out the reduced produce rack if your store has one. Usually the veggies are still good and super cheap
peanut butter too. i go through a jar a week

no chicken (i dont want to bother with grilling it since i am doing a dry run of how i will eat while traveling in hotels)
i can do sashimi or sushi for one of my meals, i can flex that if i end up going out for lunch but i didnt plan on it since im not always lunching with sushi people
and salmon is on the meal plan i just didnt select it this time around 6/6/2010 11:17:09 PM |

you could cook all of it when you are home and the bring it with you. I saute more than i grill. It will keep all week too.
Just another source of protein.
Peanut butter or almonds would be really good with your traveling schedule

ah yes, i have a lot of all natural peanut butter & almond butter on my menu. i already had jars of both so its not on the grocery list.
you're right i could grill the chicken in advance. i think there is a grilled chicken salad on the plan that i could do. i'm excited to see how this week works.
while i'll be at home, i'm interested to see how i can translate to the road. like i said, i did all the packaging tonight. i could keep it in a cooler until i got to the hotel and stick it in the fridge. and i have a little plug in pan thing (dutch oven is maybe what its called?) so i can cook eggs and turkey bacon in the skillet thingy and just wipe it out.
just not sure i'd have to time for all the prep every week 6/6/2010 11:28:30 PM |

Well with what you've done so far, it sounds great. traveling and eating healthy is tough. On the weeks you dont have time to prep, I'd go with low sodium deli meats, PB sammies, low fat chicken salad and salads with raw veggies and cottage cheese. Those are all pretty simple and take little to no prep time.
Keep up the good work. you'll see dividends before you know it.

I'm down 13 pounds since this thing started. I'm guessing about 10 pounds of that is water and glycogen. It's not like the actual number matters all that much, because I'm going to diet until I look a certain way and then let the water fill back out. Glycogen depletion makes me look flat, so I'll look better after I introduce carbs back into my system after I've dieted down. 6/7/2010 5:11:24 PM |

Rosemary and Citrus-Roasted Chicken Breast with Zucchini and Lentil Saute
Chicken
1 lemon, sliced 1 orange, sliced 8 oz boneless skinless chicken breasts 1 1/3 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil 1 tbsp dried rosemary (I used fresh rosemary because I have a bush of it and I put way more) Kosher or sea salt and black pepper
Zucchini and Lentil Saute
2 2/3 tsp extra virgin olive oil 1 tbsp chopped garlic 1/2 c lentils, cooked 1 c Del Monte diced tomatoes with basil, oregano, and garlic with the juice 1 medium sized zucchini chopped into ~1" cubes
1) preheat oven to 375*F. Spray 8x8 baking dish with olive oil cooking spray. Layer lemon and orange slices in dish. Place chicken breasts on top and drizzle with olive oil. Sprinkle with the rosemary (I also added snipped fresh green onion), salt and pepper. Bake for 25 minutes or until fully cooked.
2) In a non-stick skillet over medium high heat, add the olive oil and saute the garlic and lentils for a 2 minutes. Add the tomatoes and zucchini, turn the heat to high, and cook 2-3 minutes or until the zucchini is crisp-tender. Serve with chicken.
This was amazingly nummers! It makes 2(4-block) servings on the zone diet.

so today was my first day on the insanity meal plan. i calculated my caloric needs and chose menu items. i put everything custom possible into fitday and apparently i ate almost 1800 cals when i should have eaten 1600.. whoops. i ate the right stuff but apparently my calorie count is different from insanity. it prob has to do with my protein powder?
oh well, 200 calories isnt a big deal, i will adjust tomorrow so i dont end up doing 1800 again
here are my charts

i use my heart rate monitor which doesnt work half the time because im sweating so much that it slips around haha
but i create an activity entry for "conditioning" and make it match the calories i burned according to the monitor. thats the best way i can figure to do it.
and tomorrow is going to be hard. its a friends bday and we're meeting at a cupcake joint to sing her happy bday. im thinking i can split a cupcake with someone else or just eat part of it. i love cupcakes and im ok with eating it, but i dont want to blow my diet. i want to see results! 6/7/2010 10:04:34 PM |

I've been lurking on this thread but when I started working out a little over two weeks ago, I was 6'2'' at 150 lbs. I have a really fast metabolism so I can basically eat whatever I want, in whatever quantities I want without gaining weight.
But I am pleased to say that I've gained three pounds (of muscle I think) after working out 3-4 times a week .
I eat half a GNC protein bar before and after my workouts and drink a protein shake in the nights on the days that I work out on. 6/7/2010 10:13:54 PM |

I was down 2 pounds at the end of last week but then ate a truck of salt over the weekend and was back up at my start weight when I weighed yesterday. I think it'll come back down, though. I've never really felt like I could see my water weight from sodium before, but (I guess now that I'm paying more attention) I felt puffy this time. And it could be just me but I feel like I look bigger in the pictures for this week too.
Started month 2 of Insanity last night. The things I've heard about the second month are true. My diet was great yesterday, right on my macros and well balanced. I should be able to keep that up all week, and hopefully manage to keep it going through the weekend when I visit my not-very-healthy family.

So I took a 70 minute cardio blast class today with my kickboxing instructor. I call this class ass-kicking class II. it is 50 minutes of sprints, suicides, lunges, squats, laps around the track, running stairs, imaginary jump rope, jumping side to side front to back. Soooo hard. Then she adds 20 minutes of weights and abs. I seriously look like I just went for a swim in my gym clothes. 6/8/2010 11:36:14 AM |
