the fda gives generic manufacturers wayyyyyyy more leeway when it comes to drugs.
they test for lots of things, but they don't test for function. they should. just b/c it contains a generic version of the main ingredient, does not mean that it will work at all, as you have already found out.
I am rather reluctant to use generics now that I know how much (or lack of) testing is required.
If it's for something that matters (antibiotics, pain meds, etc...) pay extra for the name brand. If it's something trivial, like generic advil or tylenol, that's ok.2/10/2011 9:28:50 PM |

oh no no no!!!! any bio equivalent drugs are REQUIRED to have the exact same active ingredients in the exact same amounts. theres no such thing as "generic active ingredient"
but be careful, this doesnt mean brand name is better, just means the effects are better known!
the diluents can make a HUGE difference on absorption. they are required to do xx number of tests but not at all strengths.
and also sometimes they only measure how much is absorbed rather than how much over time.
so if you have 250 mg of drug A that gets absorbed over a time of 5 hours vs the generica brand that gets absorbed over a time of 2. this means the peak concentration has a chance of being 2x as high as the previous!
its insane.
but this doesnt mean that brand name is always better, its dependent upon the peak and duration of absorption, some people may need only a 2 hour absorption window as opposed to a 5 hour one.
(this is my life yo! i love this shit )

the weird thing, i find myself able to answer questions friends and family ask without looking stuff up anymore and i find myself very confident in the answers i give (even though ill look them up to double check) and the other day i got one of my grandmas medications altered because it was interferring with her coumadin! (her blood was wayyyyyyy too thin, like 10-15x ) it makes me feel really good (not that her blood was thin, but that im able to catch it!) 2/11/2011 1:01:58 PM |

I posted mine (although no pics) on the last page. Cut me some slack. After 2 years of working out and dieting I'm finally losing weight. Trust me getting below 146 is HUGE for me because it means my cortisol levels are no longer fighting against my birth control and body weight. Pictures soon. When I get to 140 2/11/2011 3:54:16 PM |

Am up to 215 miles so far and weighing in at 126 lbs this afternoon. Speed is up slightly. 5k pace is just below 21 minutes.
Feeling a lot stronger. Biggest difference is that I've switched from drinking one or two glasses of wine a night to drinking one glass of wind maybe once a week. The bf is very serious with his training, so he helps me stay in shape. 2/13/2011 7:47:49 PM |

I normally do my leg workout during the week about 7 hours after my lunch. I wasn't able to get to the gym much this week due to travel, so I went to the gym today for my leg workout about 2 hours after eating lunch. I was surprised at how much stronger I felt during my exercises. I was able to increase the poundage 10% on squats, and it still felt like I was doing my reps a lot faster.
I guess this means I need to start eating more carbs before my workouts. I occasionally eat a can of tuna or a bag of microwaveable pork rinds a few hours before my workouts when I'm at work, but I rarely have any carbs after lunch. 2/13/2011 8:32:58 PM |

I wish this one early morning bitch would learn to eat her carbs before coming in. Last week, I had to buy her her 5th damn gatorade, due to her almost loosing consciousness. "OH, I don't know what's going on with my, my doctor has checked EVERYTHING!!!" "I feel fine after I have these gatorades!!"
"Do you eat breakfast or anything before you come in?'
"I have a zone bar!"

Whoa Joie! Aren't you 5'9" or 5'10"? That would be uber tiny. Just be safe with it!
Granted, eating super clean and avoiding alcohol does make weight drop off pretty quickly. You're already in such good shape even with the occasional cheat day/wknd.
What are everyone's typical nutrition pitfalls? I'm a wine junkie, but have prob consumed just 10 drinks in the past month, as opposed to the 50 to 60 I'd typically consume. That's about a 5000 calorie difference right there. Kind of weird to think of it that way.

food and booze. see that the problem, it's been every weekend
gf had a bad day friday, so that turned into an ice cream/pizza/wine + movie then tequila then a case of beer between the two of us while playing darts. then hangover pancakes and sausage, big italian dinner with friends with white wines, a couple rogue 22oz bottles, a six pack of breckenridge chocolate vanilla porters, then liquor drinks and things all night at the hoose then hangover pancakes and sausage again, and a more respectable dinner/no drinks on sunday
planned rest days on friday seem to lead me to startin' partyin' way too early
did do 6mi hikes with the dogs both days (it was beautiful here this weekend) and some gym time. but still, whoa.
my goals are all super long term anyways. im not that concerned. just been going way overboard like, every single weekend. 2/14/2011 11:36:02 AM |

I didn't work out or run at all during the week last week because I was nursing a foot injury and a calf injury, but I did the Tour de Palm Springs century ride on Saturday, and it was great! 102 miles in 5:40 and felt pretty good doing it. Then my wife and I spent the rest of the weekend in Palm Springs and did a little hiking yesterday.
I'm a bit sore today, but at least I didn't reaggravate either of my injuries, so I'm gonna try and get back on the horse with running this week. 2/14/2011 12:08:07 PM |

Good god and I felt bad about my weekend. Did you two really drink a case (as in 24 beers) in one night? I haven't drank like that since my borderline-alky days in college.
My pitfalls are greasy food and beer/liquor. When I go out to a bar or club I always have a few drinks. I also usually start craving burgers/pizza/pasta at restaurants, but it gets easier to resist when I think about the calories and sodium in them. Haven't been eating out much lately either.2/14/2011 1:52:50 PM |

so my start to 10 lb loss has began prettty shitty
ahahha
girl scout cookies came in todayate a few too many at lunch (along with my normal healthy stuff) but thats not the real issue. the problem lies in that i am SO DAMN TIRED.
this is the most lethargic i have been in a very very long time.
i was supposed to go meet someone at the gym to do bodypump and just called to cancel on them (to which their reply was "oh my gosh you REALLY are tired!)
but this feeling sucks because im eating more than usual, and im pretty sure its an effort to get energy. it's a combo of healthy and non healthy
(ie i just had some grilled chicken and broccolli, and then a fudge round and 2 apples ) im eating A LOT more than i normally would
sighhh
welp, its only one day
and also, i thnk im gonna start going to the gym for a brief (like 20 minutes) session of cardio 2-4 mornings a week....ill let yall know how that goes 2/14/2011 4:41:08 PM |
