Correct. They are not huge details. They are minutiae.

Well it's become quite apparent that the administration had literally no plan on how to handle this thing after actually killing him. It's been a completely clusterfuck, with one set of things being said by a bunch of anonymous White House/Pentagon officials talking to reporters, another set of things being said in official press conferences, and then half of those things being taken back or restated.
This is something I'd expect from the NC State athletics department, not the people who lead the country. 5/4/2011 1:43:44 PM |

There are programs for retired war dogs. I've seen stories where dogs of killed soldiers (their handlers) are shipped back to the US to live with the soldier's family.
^Yeah, so much for being a transparent presidency.

I still say that instead of telling Pakistan what they did after the fact they should have informed Pakistan that they were about to lead an assault to kill bin Laden even though they had already done it. That way they could sit back and monitor all the Pakistani official's calls to see where the leaks were.
Either that or tell no one what happened until they had time to analyze the data on the computers and bust anyone else they could locate via that data. They could then have a presser in a month where they announce the operation and all subsequent operations. 5/4/2011 1:55:32 PM |

I guess because we're worried the Taliban will attack us.
Seriously, this whole thing is being handled terribly by the administration. Conflicting stories, confused people talking to the press, contradicting statements from high officials
Quote : | "LEON PANETTA [director of CIA]: The government obviously has been talking about how best to do this, but I don't think there was any question that ultimately a photograph would be presented to the public." |
Yes, Obama was in office when our set teams took down bin Laden. Past that point the administration is tripping all over themselves

The same reasons he didn't release his birth certificate.
1. To see how many stupid conspiracies people can make up. The longer he waits, the better it is to point out the stupid people like Donald Trump.
Had he not waited, Donald Trump might still have had a chance at the presidency. But all that is blown out of the water now.
2. To create hype. When the hype gets to its breaking point, then he'll release them. Right now, it's keeping the country interested and busy. If the country is busy, it has less time to make up conspiracies that can't be proven with a simple release of pictures.5/4/2011 2:01:24 PM |

And hell here's Joe fucking Biden being an idiot again
Quote : | "Here’s a typical response to a question about the SEALs from a senior defence official in a Pentagon briefing on Monday:
QUESTION: Can I ask you, can you confirm that it was a (Navy) SEAL team? And was this a specially designated team that had been practising or reviewing intelligence for a while and they were the unit of choice?
SENIOR DEFENCE OFFICIAL: Not going to comment on units or numbers.
But here’s what the legendarily verbose and loose-lipped Vice President Joe Biden said at a dinner at Washington’s Ritz Carlton Hotel last night to mark the 50th anniversary of the Atlantic Council:
Let me briefly acknowledge tonight’s distinguished honorees. Admiral James Stavridis is a, is the real deal. He can tell you more about and understands the incredible, the phenomenal, the just almost unbelievable capacity of his Navy SEALs and what they did last Sunday.
And:
Folks, I’d be remiss also if I didn’t say an extra word about the incredible events, extraordinary events of this past Sunday. As Vice President of the United States, as an American, I was in absolute awe of the capacity and dedication of the entire team, both the intelligence community, the CIA, the SEALs. It just was extraordinary. " |

Some trivial details have changed - easily attributable to the fog of war. Expect more details to change; this is the nature of reporting classified military operations.

when wikileaks came out, I'm pretty sure they could tell who was leaking the information. I believe the whole wikileaks thing helped, not hindered, the administrate to be able to keep a secret.
Since the operation was conducted by a unilateral American Delta Force team, who you know can keep a secret just by being part of the team, there is a slim chance there will be anything leaked from them.
The reason why Saddam and sons were leaked was because their bodies were handed over to the Iraqis...5/4/2011 2:07:47 PM |

This is very interesting, someone can force Obama to release the photo through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). To prevent that the picture needs to become a classified item...which there are several challenges to.
