i like Moton too. i did see somewhere that he builds his roster on JUCOs and transfers every year and only has like 1 or 2 guys on the roster that committed to him out of high school. he'd have to totally change his roster management style at State and also would be making an even bigger jump than Keatts (or any other candidate) from a competition level standpoint. i don't know enough to say that I prefer Moton over Keatts, but the reasons for him not really being on our radar during this search are reasonable and make sense imo. but everything i know about Moton, i like.

I've listened to a couple of press interviews with Moton. To say they were painful to listen to, is an understatement. I think he is by far, the worst candidate.

Think people get too caught up with "name" and star-power.

Yeah it's great to hire a guy that's been to a Final Four. But guess what, when we hired Lowe, we had a chance to hire Marshall but most thought his experience at Winthrop wasn't enough to warrant a job in the ACC. Now we look like fools. At one point Sean Miller wasn't ready and proven enough at Xavier to warrant an offer from us after 2 solid years there. I'll agree during the last search Archie wasn't considered because he wasn't a HC yet, but his name did pop-up and he had some good buzz as an assistant coach.

That's the thing about scooping up mid-major or up-and-coming coaches, you have to take a chance and hope you hit on a successful coach. Otherwise you are stuck trying to offer a truckload of money to poach a good coach or you're hiring re-treads and hoping for better results. You basically settle for a lower ceiling because you want a higher floor, when in reality what NC State needs to do is swing for a high ceiling guy and do everything they can to help him and not worry about the floor.

Honestly, I think Keatts floor is basically Gottfried. Team with a lot of highly ranked guys that can score and aren't good on defense. I actually don't care if our defensive metrics are shit as long as I can watch our game and see that we're actually putting in effort on both sides of the court. No more iso-ball on offense and just arbitrarily standing around looking at open 3's on D.

there were good options, sure. seemed like we (the fans anyways, not sure about the actual search committee) aimed too high at guys like Sean Miller, Rick Barnes, etc and we may have missed a more realistic option by doing so. don't think it helped us that Shaka went to the Final 4 when he was (supposedly) one of our top targets. then he decided to stay at VCU after all. which left us scrambling. barring Dayton, VCU, and/or UNCW making big runs...we won't be in that position.
