Outside of the first few minutes where we got up 7-0...we’ve mostly been totally dominated. By a clearly worse team. The fact that it’s UNC really hurts, but rivalry aside this is pretty damn pathetic and embarrassing

Our offensive system is too disorganized to compete at this level. We can get hot every now and then (or the other team can get cold) but we won't be consistent unless we play great d.

I brought this up before when talking about andree but now its with Funderburk. We have players with great skillsets but do nothing in terms of xs and os to utilize their strengths. Its pretty much just run and gun.

This roster probably isn’t what it was supposed to be. Harris transferred late into the offseason (yeah he wasn’t great, but a back up PG would be useful). SKJ got kicked off the team before ever playing for us. Saddiq Bey transferred/decomitted at the very last minute and hes a baller for Nova. We’ve been riddled with injuries on and off for most the season, rarely at full strength for conference games. And even Seabron is ineligible this year, although who knows what kind of impact he would have had.

I would say that ideally, a guy like Danny Dixon isn’t on this roster. Even a guy like Braxton Beverly was sort of a last minute addition to the roster when Keatts first arrived. He’s probably not a typical Keatts recruit. The incoming class is by far the best of Keatts’ career. Will they immediate impact guys? I don’t know. But I think it’s fair to say the talent level on the roster will be increasing and hopefully continue to increase.

That’s an optimistic spin. Ultimately the coach is responsible for the roster, duh. But Keatts seems to have taken the approach of rebuilding the roster from transfers/grad transfers to bridge the gap that was left by Gottfried and the attrition that followed. Some of those transfers like Dixon or AJ Taylor haven’t worked out (Taylor is hurt, to be fair). It feels like the talent level isn’t where it should be. We lack reliable shooters, for example. Although we do have very talented players (Funderburk and Markell and usually Bryce), we also have some guys like Daniels or Hellems that just don’t have a fully formed offensive skill set. They can be really fine role players. And DD played great tonight. But those aren’t the guys you lean on when you need offense. Also it doesn’t help that Bryce has been MIA 2 games in a row and Markell has been off all year.

Nah it's just poor execution from the guards. He's been open on rolls to the rim and on traditional post ups but they just aren't getting him the ball. Our guards have been pretty ass for a few games now.

They shot at least, what, 8-10 FTs because we were fouling on purpose. They also pounded it inside all game while we settled for tough jumpers. Refs weren’t an issue.

I’m not trying to blame it all on Bryce at all. But man...these last two games have to feel waaaay different if Bryce just shoots like 40%. Instead of 0/15 or whatever. I know it’s not that simple, way more went into this loss and the last. But at the same time...when one of your most reliable offensive players is suddenly shooting 0%, it’s totally disheartening.

When Bryce was out we really seemed to make DJF the focal point of the offense, partly out of necessity. We’ve gone away from that the last two games.

A gutless embarrassing performance. Daniels was the only one who looked like he wanted to win. Bryce has been awful since coming back. He scored a ton in non conference shooting mid range fade aways, they don’t seem to be working in the ACC. Hellems was good the first 2 minutes and then disappeared. Man it sucks to be a state fan, gets depressing after a while.

he hit a tough shot turnaround to seal the deal vs UVa. also, prior to his last two games (0/15 FGs) he was shooting 50.8% and averaging 14.4 ppg in ACC play. he was bad in the last two games. i don't think it really applies to the rest of ACC play. i don't know if it's still the concussion issues he's dealing with or what...but we need him to get back to his old self.

There were rumors floating around twitter during the concussion absence that he was trying to quit the team which is why the absence was abnormally long. Of course nothing is confirmed and it could have just as easily been just the concussion. But his seeming lack of effort/care over the last two games would back up some potential internal team issues with him.

At any rate, I am much more frustrated at the terrible offensive gameplan and execution than anything else. Even during our wins, our offense seems to consist of a single high screen and then either a wild drive to the basket or a contested jumper. If they can stay in front of our drives, then our offense is basically shut down with seemingly no backup plan.

In addition to that, we don't even get into it well. It often takes us 15 seconds just to get the ballhandler aligned with the first ball screen. A lot of handwaving like a random group in a pickup game.

Its why we lost the GT game. We inbounded the ball and had to get the dribble handoff to get into the ballscreen "chop" play. Too many steps to setup.
