I'm thinking a 8 or 9 man rotation is gonna happen
Harrow Brown Leslie Howell Smith
Wood Gonzalez Williams and either Vandenberg or Painter. 4/30/2010 4:09:03 PM |

So we're going to be running and pressing a lot, right? Why not have an 8 or 9 (or 10) man rotation? 4/30/2010 4:57:55 PM |

if Mabry commits i think he would slide into the 9th spot in the rotation
that way Josh Davis can work on the 'finer' points of the game, such as driving to the basket, shooting, not blinking and wincing in pain when shooting free throws, etc.
i do think Davis will be a very solid player by the time he's a Junior or Senior 4/30/2010 4:58:41 PM |

so does anyone know, heard why if Mabry is our leader (way out front) he hasn't committed?
Is it because it'd be a violation to sign him until May's transfer is official or something like that or is it really the court date or what... curious of course. 4/30/2010 5:04:52 PM |

Let's not all act like Mabry is the The Second Coming here
He's a mid-level prospect with offers from 2-3 mid-level ACC schools
He'd be a nice piece to round out a stellar class, but he is not going to make or break the program 4/30/2010 5:13:04 PM |

I'd be fairly surprised if Harrow beats out Gonzalez for the starting PG spot this year. If he does great, but I wouldn't expect it particularly early on.
Brown can beat out CJW for the starting 2 guard and Leslie will probably move into the starting lineup at some point even if he doesn't begin the season there.
You can tell we haven't had many good freshmen over the years because you guys think just because they are ranked in the top 50 they will dominate from day 1. 4/30/2010 9:57:31 PM |

Is CJL a good rebounder? Tracy is decent, and Brown is supposedly a good rebounder for a guard, but we're going to need someone else to rebound next year.
If he is, I say leave him at the 4 and start Wood at the 3. If he's not, I think you've got to start Howell, or at least give him big minutes at the 4. We can let Leslie hop back and fourth between the 3 and 4. 4/30/2010 10:00:59 PM |

I'm not banking on them dominating, I'm banking on smith dominating, wood hitting open shots like crazy and the freshmen being able to do something productive when it gets kicked out to them, howell knowing how to dribble like a decent pg.
Javi can't do any of that 4 out of 5 games. Javi suckts. I'd be surprised if a 5 star recruit cna't beat javi easily. Not because harrow is amazing but because javi is awful.
Javi will be a great spark off the bench. 4/30/2010 10:28:47 PM |

So regarding Terrence Jones. He holds a press conference to commit to Washington. Later that night reports surface that Calipari called him AFTERWARDS and now he is still thinking hard about where he is going to go. Evan Daniels on Scout was saying that he has NEVER seen anything like this before and it's very, very strange.
I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but come on... What could Cal have possibly said after that press conference to get him to at least think about changing his mind. Shady, shady, shady.
Quote : | "I'd be fairly surprised if Harrow beats out Gonzalez for the starting PG spot this year." |
Ditto. Javi is at least adequate in smaller bursts... Brown is so obviously better than any other option we have at the two so I see no reason why he'd not start. CJ Williams is barely a passable bench option for a top division ACC team.

Based on what? His third worst on the team PPS? In front of only Painter and Vandenburg. He was the only one in the entire top nine of our rotation that had a sub-1.00 PPS.
He was flat awful from three -- less than 25%! He very rarely does anything with the ball in his hand and doesn't create his own shot. I'm not sure why anyone would find that acceptable for a two guard or swing man on a top division ACC team.
I don't mean to kill the kid but Mays contributed far more last year to the team than Williams did. He was a near empty jersey that got twenty minutes a game.

Again pulling from Rally's old post. This is so true, though I think Brown with his year of prep school and his physical maturity is ready to step right in. We're also spoiled because of how Hickson performed as a frosh despite the team and how much of a leader Hodge was from the very beginning. But you're very correct in general.

All the existing guys have to do is practice shooting, rebounding, and defense. Smith already commands a double team, and Harrow, and Brown will be breaking down defenses.
Everyone else just has to be ready to make a shot or grab a rebound. CJW doesn't need to worry about creating or making plays. Just hit a damn open shot. Basketball is about hitting shots. Don't make it harder for the role players
I also suspect that CJL is going to be like Henson at carolina -- not really a big factor until the end of the year
