I have found that most of those types are actually in manhattan, not so much our area of jersey. Then again, I don't hang out in clubs or anything. Nor do I ever go to the shore* area.

The one stereotypical "guido" type I've seen was an utter moron. So yes, they are that bad


*by shore, I mean the actual beaches, not just waterfront. We live on the water in Hudson county, but the "scene" here is much calmer than the shore during warmer months.
