Stag's GI trigger is actually decent. Lighten it up with some springs and it wouldn't be bad at all.

It's $66+shipping from stag when it's in stock. I'd do $65 shipped. Otherwise i'll keep it for spare parts.

I appreciate it but I talked my dad into buying those mags from me at a discount so I got the parts kit for around $25. Probably going to throw my SSA-E trigger in there and put my GI trigger in my other lower, add a PRS stock and make it my precision gun, use the other for my Aimpoint as more ranch gun

I'm considering buying a progressive reloader in the near future, since I think my 300 blackout build is going to be difficult to get ammo for otherwise. For those of you that reload, where do you go for primers, powder, and bullets?

Right now I'm leaning towards a Dillon 650, but not sure if anyone has any recommendations otherwise for a reloader.

Meh. I definitely wouldn't pay over $1k for it even with today's prices. Normal prices I wouldn't pay more than $600 but that is mainly because I don't like that setup.

buy bullets online from whoever has them in stock at the best price. they're all selling the same shit for the most part. midway, grafs, powder valley, wideners, etc.

buy powder and primers locally unless you buy enough to offset hazmat shipping. locally, i go to Ed's in Vass. before the current panic, the raleigh gun show was a good place to find powder and primers at decent prices.

that is the most comprehensive, objective comparison of all the dillon presses i've seen. i have a 550 and couldn't be happier. it fits my needs perfectly.

reloading equipment and components are all in short supply and subject to price gouging right now. also, 300 blackout brass is very hard to find. were you planning to make your own from 223?

I've found a couple of places online selling new 300 brass for about $0.40 each, with the casings labeled specifically for the round. I don't really like the thought of modifying brass that's stamped for a different cartridge on the bottom, even if it is a very distinct shape. I have about 6 months of waiting before the NFA stamps come back on my 300 blackout build, so I have some time to let the market die down a little bit hopefully. If not, I'll make my own brass from the 223 brass I shoot between now and then.

I'm consolidating all of my firearms down to about 7 rounds: 22LR, 5.56, 300 Blackout, 308, 12 gauge, 45ACP, and 44Mag. That ought to give me enough diversity to serve any purpose I have, with the exception of wanting some smaller gauge shotguns for shooting sporting clays. If I do that, reloading should be simplified down to only needing a handful of dies and reloading equipment.

if you plan to load most of those chamberings on the progressive, then i'd strongly suggest the 550 over the 650. caliber conversions are cheaper and faster.

i only load my high-volume stuff on my 550. that's .45 ACP and .223 right now. i use small primer pocket .45 brass so i don't have to change the priming assembly when i switch between them. the rest gets loaded on my single stage presses.

i'd like to do .30-06 on the 550 since it uses the same shellplate and locator pins as .45, but 4895 and 4064 are the go-to powders for the Garand and i'm not sure how they'll meter in the dillon powder measure. we'll see.

^steel case is fine in an AR. iirc, that ammo isn't actually copper jacketed, just copper washed steel jackets. it'll wear your barrel out much quicker. however, copper washed ammo is usually so much cheaper than quality copper jacketed ammo that you can replace the barrel and still come out ahead.

or you can reload and shoot quality brass-cased, copper jacketed ammo for the price of the crappy ammo. even more money is saved if you reload heavy bullets for long range or premium and/or match bullets for hunting and target shooting.

unfortunately it's a birch stock made by boyd's instead of the black walnut that's so beautiful. idk if CMP is cutting costs with the birch stocks or if their supply of walnut couldn't keep up. it doesn't look bad, just lighter and a little orangish. doesn't have the nice grain that the walnut has either. i'm gonna rub it with some linseed or tung oil and maybe it'll darken a little. loaded up 50 rounds to try in it, but it'll probably be a few weeks before i get a chance to shoot it.

Long and skinny is the Garand was designed for M2 ball. That applies to the gas system and the sights. There's piles of info on loading for it. Generally need to stick to 4895 or 4064 with 150 or 168 gr bullets. You can change the gas plug and gain versatility. Otherwise you'll screw up the op rod and they ain't cheap. I got M2 ball pulldown bullets and loaded them over 4064.

CMP is still selling HXP M2 ball and some companies (hornady is popular) make garand-safe ammo. If u want to go buy whatever hunting rounds and shoot them in a Garand, then a gas plug would ne a good idea.

I need some advice from the guys on here into sporting clays.

Bought my first O/U and will be testing it out at Deep River this weekend. Have shot there before but it was with a 20 gauge pump and no choke. As far as chokes go I just plan to put an IC in the bottom and M in the top and forget about them (other than removing to clean the gun). I figure it is more important to get comfortable with the gun than worry about chokes. This seem reasonable or should I go IC in both barrels?

Deep River is such a short course, I'd use IC tubes on both barrels. If you ever go to Drake Landing, you'll probably want to use Modified chokes since their throwers are typically further away.

Wood looks good. Honestly, for what I paid I am completely happy with all aspects of it so far. Keep in mind this is a statement made prior to squeezing off the first shot. Hopefully I will have the same opinion after this weekend.

Ive got a few, Samco Global used to be big in swedes. Get some of the wood bullet gallery rounds and pull the bullet, its primed brass for $.10 ea.

is the brass the same as regular 6.5x55? i know it's not safe to trim .30-06 blank brass down and use it for regular ball rounds because it's not as strong.

I'm finally getting around to converting my 7.62x39 Saiga. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to thread the barrel and install a muzzle device? Assuming I provide the muzzle device, how much should I expect to pay?

Also, I'll reiterate my previous question: Does anyone have any strong opinions about AK mags, particularly for a Saiga? I don't have any at the moment but the Tapcos see to be ubiquitous again.
