I was less impressed with Painter than I was Vandy

you saw him play less minutes than JV, yet score twice the points
and you saw over half of his rebounds coming on the offensive side5/5/2010 1:25:37 PM |

i felt sorry for Vandenberg. He would go and establish a good position on the block, Javi/Mays would be like 3-4 ft away and wouldn't throw it to him, looking right at him
but then he'd usually set a great pick or something 5/5/2010 1:38:03 PM |

My guess is that Howell comes back way better next year. I also think we'll see big improvements with Painter, however limited minutes. 5/5/2010 2:02:11 PM |

Painter definitely showed some flashes last year. He's just extremely raw. If he puts in the work during the summer, I could absolutely see him worked into the rotation as Tracy's backup. 5/5/2010 2:12:32 PM |

I think Painter is gonna improve a lot over the summer. He has the tools, but needs the coaching.
I think THE BIG DANDY VANDY just needs to be more comfortable with his offensive game. He looked like he was really hesitant to do anything with the ball each time he caught it close to the basket last year. 5/5/2010 2:17:03 PM |

Saw on ESPN at lunch that Cothron committed to Auburn. Blip said that he selected Auburn over Tennessee and UConn. I thought Alabama was in the running and never heard about UT or UConn recruiting him. The timing of his commitment makes me believe he might have come back to State had CJL gone to UK. 5/5/2010 2:22:46 PM |

^it was new to me. all the projected line-ups had either leslie/howell/smith or wood/leslie/smith at the 3/4/5. moving smith to the 4 puts pressure on howell, painter, and vandy to really push it this off-season. 5/5/2010 5:44:50 PM |
j_sun All American 9198 Posts user info edit post |
yeah, that was mostly the fan projected line-ups.
sid was saying after the season was over that he wanted to move tracy to the 4 next year since that would most likely be his projected position in the nba. he wants him to be able to work on his all around game to show scouts he's not just a back to the basket post player. painter and vandy are gonna need to hit the weights hard this summer if it's gonna work, but yeah, that's the plan. 5/5/2010 5:55:42 PM |

Ugh, I don't know. That was news to me as well, and I'm not sure how well that's going to work. I know it's going to prepare Smith for the NBA and all but will that be the most effective line up for us? So, we're looking at Harrow, Brown, Leslie, Smith, Painter/Vandenburg? I just don't know... 5/5/2010 7:00:13 PM |

Have watched this kid take shot after shot from the haters out there. He gave his life to Christ and God has been and will always be faithful to Tashawn. Everyone should have known this was just some lowlife trying to steal this kid's blessings. Too bad the courts didnt believe the lies of the Devil. Cant wait to hear Tashawns college choice in the next few days. Do I hear some howling about 50 miles west of Rocky Mount? No way Tracy plays >75% of his time at the 4 -unless Vandy or Painter can start contributing consistently. Despite my optimism, that is unlikely. He will swap back to the 5 at times when we shift to smaller lineups.
We have too many guys (Howell, Davis, Wood, CJW, Thomas, Mabry?) who deserve playing time in order to develop. And they cant play the 5 while the Fab Four are already out there....
No way every lineup Sid plays has either Painter or Vandy in it...

I doubt we see Tracy Smith play a ton at the 4 spot, I think this just meant THE BIG DANDY VANDY will get more minutes at the 5 than he did last year. If he can develop an offensive game and some muscle he may get more minutes, but I think we'll see TBDV getting some more playing time and allow us to be really deep to keep Tracy fresh and out of foul trouble at certain points in the game. 5/5/2010 9:10:55 PM |

this is cute and all everyone talking about tracy playing the 4 spot for nba scouting really it is...
the bottom line is he is playing wherever he is needed
if lowe doesnt win this year hes out so... don't think he will care about tracy playing the 4 for scouts IF AND ONLY IF the team isn't performing with it 5/5/2010 9:48:10 PM |

Dunno how you define 'win' but if the team shows good improvement this year he's fine.
While we have one of our best recruiting classes ever (on paper), which really shows how Coach Lowe has figured out the college recruiting game imo, they are still gonna be freshman kids. I love getting Harrow and Leslie but they are kids and aren't necessarily going to immediately be John Wall and Kevin Garnett right away. I'd say the same about Lo Brown but he kind of has an extra year so I expect him to be a little more polished than CJ and Ryan.
As far as Tracy, I think Sid is a good guy and wants the best for his players. While nobody is claiming Tracy is a lottery pick, he has certainly made me a believer after seeing him play for awhile, because I thought he was undersized...and he still is, and he can't guard guys like Howard or Gasol in the NBA...but he is still a good basketball player...as long as he has a good work ethic about him he has a chance. And from reading about his upbringing in Detroit then later down in the Cackalack, I think he has a GREAT head on his shoulders.

Does anybody know anything about Antonin Galaya? He's a 6' 5" shooting gaurd from Goldsboro (moved here from France). I had never heard anything about him until just now. It'd be nice to have another good outside shooter other than Scott Wood.
Here's an article about his school's issues with the NCAA (maybe that's why we haven't heard much about him...):
