Not thread-related, but I'm just so stoked to see my drums set up again. It's been a while.

Is anybody interested in shooting a 50/100km bike race the 29th of September? I am looking to recruit a few photographers that are interested in shooting. It will be all located within Orange County. Here is the website to check out the details:

No, sorry. Should have clarified. It's being put on by the Orange District Scouts, which I am part of, so the whole thing is volunteer run. I was kind of hoping we could do a TWW photo outing and ride around together to different points and photo the bikers along th route, out the back of my truck, etc. But it would only be a portfolio building deal.

Shitty fauxtog paid $10k for shit shots of a dance studio in Rocky Mount. Some of the photos and the editing are absolutely atrocious. Watch the video for the lulz. I went to HS with the girl that runs the dance studio but had not heard about this. I am definitely submitting this to YANAP.

built-in HDR mode? does that mean the canon point-n-shoots are soon to have built-in instagram mode? or is that the next iphone?

well i assume it processes it in camera and outputs a jpg.

i will probably never use that feature.

the 5d mk iii has it too i think.

5D mkIII uses raw for HDR in camera processing. 6D will only use jpeg's for that feature.

I donno man, the 6D doesn't seem very exciting other than the full frame for 2k if you don't already have invested in EF-S lenses. I really want to see if the manual exposure changes to your aperture will gradually change during recording. They mention something like that, but its not really described well from the previews.

Also, my glidecam 4000 pro came in last week, used it for a shoot and love it. Although, my wrist hates it, so I ended up buying a glidecam vest & arm rig with another glidecam 4000 pro sled. :p

Its top notch, but a bit heavy. The 4000 supports camera's between 4-10lbs so for a simple DSLR setup, its a bit too much. Its 9.5lbs with the 5d mkii, 24-70 and weights for counter balance. Its hard to hold for anything longer than 60 seconds. Wrist fails before arm muscles...

Well I'll be waiting to see how the AF performance compares to the 5d2's, but other than that, unless I happen upon more income to make the 5d3 doable, I'm pretty on board.

Just get a used 5DmkII for a bit cheaper than a new 6D.

I can't go from the 7D's incredible AF to the 5DmkII's terrible AF.

If the 6D's is a little better it's probably worth the extra bucks.

And built-in wifi is neat.

Then you are going to be disappointed with the less advanced AF in the 6D if you expect something close to the 7D AF system.

The thing that's annoying is that Nikon's mid level DSLR that competes in the same price points have had a much more advanced AF. I would have expect at least the same AF as the 7D, thus you would actually only really pay around 500 for an upgraded sensor instead of having to compromise on some features to get others.

I just don't understand why Canon is making two similar products within the same price points with very little to differentiate between the two. It would make sense if canon discontinues the 5dmkII before the 6D comes to the shelves, but I see nothing that they plan to stop the 5dmkII anytime soon for being an old, but good body.

I'm way more interested in the Canon 1D C body coming out soon. Canon's first reasonably priced 4k body that has a much better build quality than the RED's and hopefully their claims saying that overheated sensors is a thing of the past.

And eh. I'd much rather use a C100 or C300 or C500 than a 1DC dSLR.

Yeah, I would rather use the C500 as a platform, but its going to cost 26k for the 4k res. The 1DC is going to cost around 10k so its a great value if you don't need SDI compatibility, but want 4k res. Plus the 1D body is much more weather proof than the cinema Cx00 series camera's.

Hey guys I'm selling my Canon 50mm f/1.8 Nifty Fifty for $80, includes a 52mm UV filter. There's a thread in Classifieds for it but thought I'd post here since anyone with a SLR checks this thread on a regular basis.

My 40D has been shitting the bed recently. I only took a few photos at Hopscotch because it is having such bad backfocus issues it isn't really usable. I'm so fucking sick and tired of that camera.

Poop. Absolute poop.

Anyone trying to buy a Tokina 11-16? My next camera will be full frame, and my current camera doesn't work, so I don't have a use for it.

Well, because of the small crack on the glass (pictured) it would probably be a bit lower than a typical used Tokina. The crack doesn't effect the lens at all (it is purely cosmetic and has had gaffers tape over it since the incident) and the lens works perfectly (seriously, who uses the range window on a 11-16mm lens?).

Make an offer.

I just printed a repair ticket for my 40D. Hoping to get that in the mail tomorrow, and hoping that the damage won't be too bad (if it is even worth repairing).

Yea, I understand about the crack. I'm really not deterred by damage that's not much other than cosmetic, seeing as I'm not buying a lens to take photos of it. But since I'm really not into buying gear often, I'm reluctant to make an offer, but I'll send a PM.

And I will say being an all L lens dude... that cheap 11-16 is pretty awesome; sharp and fast. I just wished they made FF lenses.

The 11-16 has a pretty crazy look on a 5D. It fits, but obviously isn't very practical.

yah, D600 is pimp. Affordable 1080p uncompressed signal full-frame body? yes please. Way more of a value than the similarly priced 6D... what a crap shoot.

If I could, I would switch over just for that feature alone, but selling all of my Canon crap (or whats left) would be too much of a hassle for a feature that I'd barely use right now.

Seriously, someone buy my Tokina 11-16. ($525)

Or my battery grip for 20D/30D/40D/50D/60D. ($50)

Or my Alienbees White Beauty Dish. (never used, $75)

Reposting this from the TWW Babies thread, but my kids had school pictures last week, and Lifetouch blows. Now that my youngest is in school we decided to skip wasting our money on their crappy green screened shots and did our own that afternoon. Here is a couple.

those nature landscape photos are dope man. nice work!

@Nighthawk: yup, Lifetouch blows. Failed photo students only work there and they are given a cheat sheet on how to "shoot" with no guidelines on what light is, where to point the camera or proper postures/poses. You need to be aware that all of your shots are not white balanced and completely heavy on green tint. Plus camera on flash bugs the hell out of me because those are great compositions with great postures and legit emotions; hard to come by with a $8/hr photog named Chuck.

Simple fixes and you're ahead of those retards at lifetouch.

Anyone here used Canons 40mm pancake lens? I'm looking for a new everday lens and am torn between that and the 50mm 1.8. My camera body won't benefit from the advanced focusing, but i really like the size and weight.
