Although not a game changer, for someone like me on Sprint I will definitely plan on getting this.

I have a couple of spare upgrades but I don't see myself selling my Evo 3D.

If it had NFC then maybe.

you have to assume Yes due to the fact that it was presented under the 4S banner and not the iOS5 banner.

also, i think it's funny how the white iphone is now in all the ads....before they never used it in promo stuff....guess it looks "newer" lol

Oh yeah if I could upgrade every 9 months (Fucking Sprint -- killing 12 months the year that i become eligible) I may consider it, but as it stands now I have a flagship device and an upgrade so my next phone will have to last.

I could get one from Verizon through work, but I'd lose my cell reimbursement.

yea if it wasn't a wash i'd be ignoring it

also, the image stabilization is nice....I shoot a ton of DSLR video and IS lenses make a world of difference

but still, I feel like there are more important thinks that could have been upgraded

when i got my iPhone4 on Verizon in May they somehow screwed up my upgrade due to them fucking up delivery of my device, so I got the 4, but I still have my upgrade, so I'm just sitting on that until the 5 comes out.

so the shell on these is the exact same as the 4 right?

like i can go buy an otter box and it should fit?

is that the best case for these anyways?

the otter boxes feel like crap. i've seen some others in stores, can't remember brand names, that seems to be made much better. also check out http://www.lifeproof.com/. Fumbler has one. it can be a little difficult to hear sometimes, but they're completely water/dust/sand/etc proof.

They may have tweaked the antennas' design slightly so I wouldn't buy another case yet (as they did for the iPhone 4 CDMA).

Also, I still watch videos shot on my iPhone 4 on an HD Hugescreen TV all the time, it looks fantastic. I imagine the 4S would be better still...

They have, there's a dual antennae setup and the phone is designed to switch back and forth between them (or so I read, could be bunk).

The 4s is a bit underwhelming, but then it's just a step up from the 4 like the 3GS was a step up from the 3G.

I might get a 4s to replace my 3GS. My baby photographing could do with a better camera and flash.

I have a Droid Eris (have had it over 2 years) and have been holding out for the new iphone....

now that i see the new information, i'm wondering what type to get...

the 16gb 4S is $199

But I see I can get a 4 for cheaper, and a 3GS for even cheaper...

I'm guessing all 3 options are a step above my droid Eris....

Is the 4S really gonna be that much faster and better than the 4? $100 worth?

Holy fuckballs, yes. Why in God's name would you wait 2 years to get a new phone and then get a phone that is a year and a half old? I never understood dropping a retarded amount of money on a monthly fee and then saving ~1.5 months worth of your bill to skimp out on a phone.

Yeah, I don't plan on upgrading from my 4 to a 4s, but if I was going to get a new phone now, it would be a no-brainer to spend the extra $100 and get the 4s.

...but yeah, this is a disappointment. An incremental spec bump would be a disappointment normally, but after this extra-long wait, I was hoping for a miracle phone.

Of course, that's as an AAPL shareholder. As an iPhone owner...well, I just bought a 4 right after they released the white model (out of necessity...my 3GS was hanging by a thread, and I couldn't hold out for the "5")...so I wasn't eligible for an upgrade anytime soon, anyway. Would have had to sell mine privately then buy a new one at full price. Now I don't feel compelled to do that, and hopefully when the real 5 does come out, it will significantly advance the state of the art and I will be eligible for an upgrade.

Well this makes me feel better about getting an iphone 4 a few months ago. Bought one used out of contract because I couldn't stand the terrible battery life on my thunderbolt and I was worried I would regret not waiting.

So what were people hoping for? A bigger screen? A thinner phone? I don't know where you go from here. I guess thats apple's job to figure out. Or maybe I'm missing something obvious people were hoping for.

is there a way to get iOS 5 early other than being a developer? is Siri going to be an iOS 5 thing or exclusive to the 4S?

just 4S...the A5 is the only thing fast enough to run it.

and we expected a lot, possibly 3d camera, thinner, wider, lighter, faster, snapshot button, better light on both sides for facetime and captures, cordless charging(sync already exist) and others.

Siri's very cool. Hope they bring more voice functionality to Android like this. I especially liked the geo-reminder functionality, that is if it works better than reQall used to. I would have even considered switching back from Android if they had added widgets and true multitasking. Also, if they had only waited a few months, they could have had quad core.

^yeah, the geo reminder is neat. i forget to do things when im out all the time.

in android you use latitude it basically could do this without much overhaul, i suppose. it asks me to check in places all the time. its got the awareness.

care to explain the geo reminder?

basically it allows you to set up a radius around a given location, say your home, and the reminders are tagged with that location. when you enter (or leave, i assume depending on a setting) that location, the reminder pops up.

it'd allow you to do something like this: "remind me to pick up some milk after work". this is the type of thing you might not necessarily be able to do with traditional reminders because you'd have to set a specific time. if you leave work an hour early, you might not ever get that reminder until you're already home.

this is off the top of my head, but i think that's the general idea

wait i thought the reminder thing was inherent to iOS 5

and so would Siri work on the iPad?

afaik, "geo fence" or whatever they're calling it is iOS 5-only

no idea about Siri... maybe, since iPad 1 & 2 are getting iOS 5 iirc, but i wouldn't put any money on iPad 1

Yeah I meant iPad 2. But that's just dumb for it not to work on an iPhone 4 as well. Pretty obvious what two devices I have

Their rationale for Siri only working on the iPhone 4S was that it needed the extra processing power of the dual core A5 to work (which I don't buy) but if they're going to stick with that line then I don't see what their excuse for it not working on the iPad 2 would be since it has the same dual core A5 as the iPhone 4S

^ is pretty accurate. frankly i don't buy into any claim that it can't run on an iphone 4 (or either ipad really). as with features in the past, apple will likely outright disable siri for iphone 4 (and at least ipad 1) users, not because it can't run, but because it can't run as well. it sucks, but i think apple does it to prevent the perception that iOS or new features are bad (since older hardware will likely be slower). it's also better for business with consumers that don't know what's really going on. it's easier to sell hardware on features that old hardware don't have, versus selling hardware on features that old hardware just can't run as well.

It's conceptually interesting, but as anyone who has ever used voice recognition on a phone before knows, it's probably going to be equal parts frustrating and useful.

ABC News did a little puff piece on it that I caught the tail end of. It seems to recognize simple things "Find X", "Remind me of Y", but anything involved it chokes on.

Basically, it seems like it's the Voice Control of the 3GS with a little more intelligence, which seems to be largely the norm these days.

I've never had a phone with voice control before (to that degree) so it is interesting...

however, it isn't a deal breaker for me anyway.. it is ironic how phones were originally meant to "talk" into... then they evolved into more buttons and less "talking"...texts, etc...

now they are going back to more talking

im just wondering what people were expecting. att pays billions to have the best iteration of the phone, though they haven't dropped billions in building an lte infrastructure yet. im sure apple has an engineering sample 4gs lte verizon iphone. anyway, what else can you ask for in phone hardware? 2 mics for active noise cancellation? battery technology and heat dissipation are the real limits to computing power in the phone. software and UI design are where the real development is and you've had a preview of these this for the last several months.

OMG BUT ITS APPLE THEY ALWAYS HAVE SOMETHING NEW AND AWESOME THAT I MUST HAVE
