so, what’s your point? The statute of limitations had expired on criminal charges, a civil case went through the legal system and determined that he is a rapist. According to the courts, he is a rapist.

I would argue that a civil trial cannot determine that he is a rapist. At least not legally.

OJ is a great analogy. Of course OJ is all but certainly a murderer, and he was found liable for wrongful death in civil court, but it would not be correct to say “in the eyes of the legal system, OJ is a murderer.”

If you accept that offshore wind farms are harmful to whales and that wind power is not cost effective, then the rest of his comments make sense (with the "whales being very happy about that" very obviously being sarcasm.)

To my knowledge, there is no evidence that wind power is harmful to whales, and I'm not schooled up on the latest economics of wind power, but I know the broader trend has been for it to become more and more cost effective--and I know that no large company is going to invest hundreds of millions of dollars or more into a large energy project without having a lot of smart people evaluate the business case for it...

So yeah, I'm sure he's wrong, just like he's wrong more often than not, and for the same reasons that he's wrong more often than not, but it's not like that comment was nonsensical as it is portrayed in the headline and your post.

Look, the guy is a fucking cancer on humanity and particularly America, and he's intellectually lazy and is massively lacking in judgment and logic skills, but let's not take things out of context. He doesn't need any help in looking like a malignant dipshit--it's more important to maintain impeccable credibility in criticizing him.

It's sort of like calling him a "rapist in the eyes of the law." Well, no, not really. Not in the sense that we would typically use that language. He's a piece of shit for the ages and that much is established by mountains and mountains of evidence that is plainly obvious to anyone not in his cult and probably most of the ones who are (who just don't care); it's counterproductive to stretch things to try to make him look even worse, and in any case, just incorrect.

I agree with calling him a rapist.

I disagree with saying he "is a rapist in the eyes of the legal system." Statute of limitations, peculiar wording of a NY statute, or meeting a preponderance of the evidence standard but not a beyond reasonable doubt standard, even if that may be partly because of rules on evidence admitted in different types of trials...it really doesn't matter. He might be a rapist, and you and I can call him a rapist--I think that's within bounds--but it's out of bounds to say that he's "a rapist in the eyes of the legal system", because he is not, and not just because of some legalese minutiae peculiar to NY (although again, it doesn't really matter.)

And, for that matter, you and I can call him a rapist, and someone would be well within their rights to say "Maybe, but not according to the courts."

(To which you or I would say "True, just like OJ isn't legally a murderer...but I'm pretty confident that Trump is a fucking rapist.")

First of all it's tww, there are no Trump believers left really, I'm not that worried about credibility.

Second, if Trump wants to be understood without a Trump translator, he needs to speak his case more clearly. I shouldnt need a tww poster to give me the case of why this statement isn't in fact nutty. It sure reads and sounds nutty at first take.

The video I posted?

Look I think this all comes down to whether you know wtf "whales are washing ashore bc of the wind" means, I had never before heard the theory that wind turbines are harmful to whales and was trying to figure out how wind is washing whales ashore and whether Trump things wind turbines create wind. I guess the effectiveness of his communication comes down to the audience.

If you watch the video, instead of just the misleading headline, it's obvious he is not saying that wind is blowing whales ashore, or that windmills create wind, or anything like that. It's a couple of "umms" and "ahhs" and a deliberately misleading transcription.

Now look, he's a poor orator with an odd speech pattern...but if another President who is a poor orator with, at time, odd speech patterns, got misrepresented with a purposefully misleading transcription on, say, Breitbart, we would say that's bullshit.

It's not though. I understand he thinks wind turbines are expensive, and that whales are washing ashore, but was not sure how the two are connected. Now I guess I get it knowing that he thinks wind turbines are killing whales, although I'm still not sure the how that's supposedly happening.

Im still not sure what headline you're seeing, I tried to find and article that had more context than the tweet and couldn't.

Right--"this dumbshit is claiming that wind turbines are killing whales" would be a fair comment.

And, to that point--that's not totally outlandish. If we found evidence suggesting significant cause for concern that wind turbines were killing whales, I would be like "Interesting, let's figure out how and see if it can be mitigated." It wouldn't be preposterous on its face.

It's just that as of now, there's no reason to believe that as far as I know--it's a case of Trump claiming something with no evidence because of his believing--or at least claiming--whatever he want to believe (or claim) because it fits his worldview and agenda. The problem is that's not how facts and evidence work.

And discussing the cost effectiveness of them is fair.

Regarding headline, I meant the headline of the tweet/video linked:

Quote :
"Trump: We see whales washing up on shore because of the wind. Those turbines out in the ocean are unbelievably expensive. So the whales will be very happy about that"

That's the thing I was calling bullshit on. Maybe "caption" would have been a better description. I don't know, I don't twitter/X.

Ahhhh ok, I'd just say tweet or post or something, or quoted text even to get it through my brain

But yes with your added context I understand what he means but still argue that "washing ashore bc of wind" is terrible way to get that point across.

Sure, but in the video, he clearly says "...because of the winnnnnd, ahhhhh--these big wind turbines..."

My beef is with the tweet saying "because of the wind". I think that's deliberately taking it out of context in order to be misleading.

If Biden said "I struggled with stuttering, particularly when I was younger. It's really terrible the way kids make fun of st-st-stutt-st-stutterers!"

...and then someone posted a tweet saying "Biden: "Make fun of st-st-stutt-st-stutterers!"

...and then MAGAs said "We've said all along that he's senile and washed up, but look at this sadistic cocksucker! We don't wanna hear any more shit from you woke-ass hippies about mean tweets from Trump when your guy is telling people to bully stuttering kids!"

That would be bullshit.

I was starting to second-guess the significance of the Sydney Powell plea deal, since it only seemed to focus on the Coffee County data breach; however, Kenneth Chesebro was directly involved in the fake elector scheme.

https://tinyurl.com/bdetpwwv

Quote :
"... Mr. Chesebro's deal could present a more serious threat to Mr. Trump than the others given that he pleaded guilty to a conspiracy count that involved both the former president and some of his closest allies.

Mr. Chesebro also maintained an extensive correspondence with other pro-Trump lawyers charged in the case and played a central role in one of Mr. Trump's chief plans to stay in office: a scheme to create slates of pro-Trump electors in states like Georgia, which Mr. Trump had actually lost...

If and when Mr. Chesebro takes the stand in Georgia, he could give an insider's perspective not only on the legal advice he provided to Mr. Trump, but also on another important issue: the roles that other lawyers, including John Eastman and Rudolph W. Giuliani, played in the fake elector scheme.

Moreover, having already put in writing that some of Mr. Trump's postelection legal maneuvers were feints of a sort undertaken for political ends, Mr. Chesebro might also be able to undermine one of the defenses that the former president could use in both of the election prosecutions.

If Mr. Chesebro were to testify that Mr. Trump's lawsuits challenging his loss were not designed to win, but merely as ploys to sow doubt about the election, it could cut against Mr. Trump's possible plan to use a so-called advice of counsel defense."

Trump will be #47.

Oh wait..... the Republicans are too stupid to play the Libs' game so they'll continue to cheat and win.

Voting day needs to be a national holiday. No mail-in ballots, no early voting. One day and one day only and the cheating will stop. Well, at least most of it.

Huh, I interpreted his comment as insinuating that the Republicans were cheating (in regards to the election denial), since it's typically left leaning people who speak a lot about election reform and making it easier to vote. And cause I've never seen a Republican on here before.

My previously-held positions are largely the same. Maybe further moderated slightly and tending more towards pragmatism that ideology, but really not much different than they've been for 20-something years.

It's that my political leanings and which side and factions I find most destructive and loathsome has changed.

Leftists complain that the GOP has moved the Overton window and dragged the Dems to the right along with them. I don't think that's the case at all. I think the Dems have shifted left as the GOP has shifted right-ish and more extreme. That makes the Dems even more loathsome to me than they were before, but the GOP has become an outright imminent existential threat to the country as we know it, so...I have become more hostile to them than to the Dems.
