Today I began Mark Rippetoe's Practical Programming Novice Program (unpublished version of Starting Strength). Basically leaves out power cleans; my gym is not conducive to them.

Was on vacation for a couple weeks in Switzerland and didn't get to lift. Went to the gym today and lifted and felt WEAK. Going to take a couple times to work back to where I was.

^ How much are you actually running per week? I'm thinking you might be over training for your half.

I've been doing crossfit on saturdays and during the week working out whatever isn't sore from the crossfit workout.

During the week how long do you guys work out? I've going hard for 30 minutes. Monday I did: 8 burpees, ran half a mile (repeat for 30 mins). Tuesday: As many situps as possible, ran half a mile (repeat for 30).

So is 30 enough or should I be aiming for 45-1hr+ of intense work out? I time myself on my iphone, I'm seeing results from my workouts and I don't want to over do it.

^ Ok. Just curious. I have run a few halfs and didn't really run over 8 miles for any of my long runs. I did run between 15 and 25 miles per week, though.

I just thought you were running like 7 to 8 miles 4 or 5 days a week. That would kill your legs. Not to mention your knees.

I'm currently training for a marathon at the end of the month. I have to put in a 15 miler at some point this week. Didn't really get to run last week because I was moving. Now my problem is finding a safe, interesting route to run.

^^^ it will depend on a lot of factors (sleep, nutrition, experience, recovery level), but I'd say the minimum for anyone looking to maintain or improve their fitness level you'd want a minimum of 3 days in the gym (1 hour each time).

Personally I usually workout 5-6 days a week (hour each time) depending on what week it is (I alternate between 1-2 rest days/week)...sometimes I'll also do double days, but I up my calories accordingly.

there's no way I could do that much at Lifestyle on the stupid slanted, rubber coated bars

I did those on a regular (straight) pull-up bar @ CrossFit Durham

^ Can you tell LFF to get a straight pull up bar? I'm tired of all the non-straight pull up bars checking out my butt.

But srsly, get them to get a straight pull up bar. lol

^ Gay.

Ran 14+ miles today in 2:13:44. It might have been 14.25 to 15. My route calculator is screwing up so I'll have to figure that out later on.

Trying to get back to the gym...I did good this past summer (went maybe 4-5 times a week and ended up dropping about 15 pounds), but have lost the motivation/been busier lately. I went 4 times last week and then went again today. After lifting weights (biceps today) me and a friend played racquetball for maybe 30-45 minutes.

And plan on playing basketball tonight

I've had some neck and upper back issues for a few weeks, so I've been doing a de-load month.

Today...

pistols, glute hams, single leg leg press
ring muscle ups, dips, rows, pushups, flys, .......going to add in more lever's and planche movements on turkey day

HSPU's, free motion arm work

swam for half an hour using back stroke

I WANT some time under the bar again, but I'm nervous about it
