Jumbotron quotes:

-It is a well-known fact that Sir Walter Raleigh could beat up Christopher Columbus.

-A lot of presidents came from the state of Ohio, but none of them were very good.

-Because they knew Ohio couldn't handle the pressure, the Wright Brothers came to North Carolina to make history.

Does anyone know if the HD games are shown anywhere in the Charlotte area? I noticed the website has channels listened for the Raleigh-Durham area, but nothing else.

Hey, we beat a team we were supposed to beat and didn't spot them 2 goals in the first.

But yeah, it was ugly. Was something wrong with the ice tonight?

Sweet. I LOVE having Center Ice! Doc Emrick doing the game.. one of the best hockey voices ever in my opinion.

Seems like a pretty good atmosphere in the RBC tonight. I'm going to the game on Tuesday so heres hoping they are still on the winning streak..

In other news, Wayne Gretzky has resigned as coach of the Coyotes.

EDIT: Not resigned, indefinite leave; his mother has cancer.

Danny Richmond has been recalled on an emergency basis, presumably so we can choose to dress seven d-men tonight if Lavi is so inclined (Hedican is out with a groin problem).

Only problem with the D tonight (aside from Aaron Ward getting preoccupied with cross-checking) was a bad night from Wesley. Two goals are right on his head. Great effort all-around, but I wish Jesse had a shift at the end to get at TLT after he started boarding people with his elbows in the corners.

Glen Wesley never has a bad night. He is by far the most consistent player on the team, he consitently gets paired with the least talented defensmen and yet still is among the best +/- on the team. When Wallin gets healthy we should see less of Ward and things should get back to normal

the guys i play hockey with and i saw aaron ward after the game at the mcgregor draft house. tried recruiting him to play on our team thursday b/c we're gonna be shorthanded. but he said he still had to do some christmas wrapping with his wife and stuff. i'm sure if he didn't have to do that he would've joine us though

^^ Wesley seldom makes mistakes, but last night he made two that led directly to goals. That's all I'm saying. Ward had one as well. The first goal was a recovery/rotation miscue on the kill.

No idea why Jovo and Foote are there, as they have both been lackluster at best. DION PHANEUF, WHERE IS HE?!

I have a feeling Staal is going to make Gretzky very sorry for not putting him on the main roster in the coming weeks.

Myself, I'd have dropped Blake and probably Regehr, added McCabe, and added Dion Phaneuf as a taxi squad member.

For forwards, I think I'd replace Thornton with Staal.

I'm kinda glad that Staal didn't make the Canada team. That'll give him some rest over the break for the 2nd half of the season. Let's face it, team Canada doesn't need Staal anyway.

Rick Nash is the real deal, he's a winger, and he goes to the net. Teams need different kinds of players, and Nash fills that power role as well as anyone, especially since he has hands to go with it. You wanna complain about someone taking a spot that should be Staal's, talk about Shane Doan. Sure, he's a winger, but Staal can do better on the wing than Doan can for sure, and is more willing to fight through checks.

^you also have to consider that checks arent a factor in the olympics
and im sure that what you look for in the NHL is different
but still i dont see why staal didnt make it

what we should b worrying about is how the players r going to adapt to the international rules...especially this year its going to b a lot different for them

Checks aren't a factor is the Olympics? I beg to differ Jagr is having a great year and Hasek might have some magic left. But in all truth the trap is twice as bad with some countries as it was in the NHL, nothing like the 1-4 Scandanavian

I was looking at this year's NHL stats this morning in the paper, and it's a total joke that Staal isn't on the team out right. I've been to lots of games live this year and, no doubt about it, he is the real deal. There's always political brew-ha-has on the team Canada selection. One of the Canadian announcers went on a tirade about it last night, and I can't say I blame him. But, since I'm American it's all fine with me. Go USA!
