Wait...Frazier's is closed??? I got this agnolotti there that had like twelve sticks of butter in it. It was the best way to binge eat in public without anybody knowing!
Anyway, I've got these roundabouts down pat, but I'm concerned about the stopping for pedestrians part. We don't actually have to stop for them, do we? 7/19/2010 2:50:49 AM |

I have traveled through the roundabout twice now. Both times were at night, coming from downtown and going straight through the circle. Each time there has been a car to the left of me, and each time it has nearly hit me because they didn't realize they needed to be in the outside lane to go straight through.

If you are going "straight" through the circle and are going from 2 lanes to 1 lane in your direction of traffic, stay in the right lane. Why this is so difficult I don't know. 7/29/2010 8:37:34 AM |

Quote : | "The Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation, in partnership with the City of Raleigh, NC State University, Legacy Event Planners and Hillsborough street businesses are planning the official reopening celebration of Hillsborough Street on Saturday, September 25. The event will be an all-day community grand opening, marking the completion of Hillsborough Street and will feature food, entertainment, educational activities and an official ribbon cutting ceremony. The event is expected to draw thousands of people. Display Opportunities: There will be a section for vendors to set up booths and displays along the street. Does your college have a dynamic and interactive display you would like to bring to the event? This would be a great opportunity to spread the word to the community about some of the work that your folks are doing. The celebration is still in the planning stages. However, for more information please contact Jeff Murison, executive director, Hillsborough Street Community Service Corporation, at 919-800-0135 or jeff@hillsboroughstreet.org Thanks! " |

Okay, I'd never even heard of the Color Wall. Seems... meh.
So, couple questions, even though these aren't immediately related to the Revitalization project:
1) I heard it on Yelp, but do you guys know if it's absolutely confirmed that the David Mao (I think) Noodle and Dumpling shop spin-off from the Duck and Dumpling is going to replace the spot where Red Hot and Blue was?
2) Anyone looked at the Atrium? I know they were supposed to do all those improvements this summer... 7/30/2010 8:12:01 PM |

Atrium is currently under construction. There is a giant tent in the brickyard where some of the dining places will temporarily reside. http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/webcam/

Quote : | "Council approves Hillsborough Street bike lanes
Raleigh's City Council unanimously approved temporary bike lanes along a revamped section of Hillsborough Street near the N.C. State campus earlier this afternoon.
The NC Dept. of Transportation, which maintains the road, gave the city approval to stripe the lanes. The city requested approval after a heated argument between bike advocates and business owners.
The city's Public Works Committee recommended the lanes, even after city staff suggested the issue be put on hold until after construction on Hillsborough was completed later this summer. The nearly $10 million road construction project was vetted publicly a decade ago, and bike lanes were not part of those discussions. The master plan for the road, however, did include a shared space for bikes, pedestrians and traffic.
The cost of the temporary lanes is unknown. Permanent lanes are expected to cost about $40,000, which is to be taken out of left over construction funds. The city and state will evaluate the lanes for several months before determining whether or not they will become a permanent fixture." |

Went through the roundabout twice today. First time there was a lady stopped inside the roundabout in the inside lane trying to make a right turn. The second time there were people stopped in front of me in both lanes, waiting to enter the roundabout even though there was no one coming.
I'm not going near this thing after school starts back. Way too many idiots out there. 8/3/2010 6:09:39 PM |

Highly recommend that you head out to David's Dumpling & Noodle bar. Ate there last night and it was amazing! Pho was great, noodles were awesome, chinese broccoli/oyster sauce was a perfect apetizer. They are also offering the late night noodle bar menu until 1am. no, i don't know what a noodle bar is...
i know what an oyster bar is -- a "bar" you sit at and they shuck oysters in front of you
i know what a sushi bar is -- a "bar" you sit at while the itamae makes the sushi in front of you
i know what a martini bar is -- a bar you sit at while a bartender makes martinis in front of you
is this a place where you can sit at a bar while somebody makes noodles in front of you? that's all i was asking 8/8/2010 5:22:27 PM |
WolfMiami All American 8766 Posts user info edit post |
^yeah, essentially.
Its a normal restaurant. But they have a bar area, with noodle supplies, quick fry woks, broth, etc. so they will make you noodle bowls right in front of you at the bar. 8/8/2010 7:41:18 PM |

It's just like an 1/8th mile of really good-looking street sandwiched by what now looks like crap.
