based on what i saw in that game, the difference was evans. he clearly didn't have what it takes, and he made very poor decisions. yes, the other guys stepped it up in the second half, but evans made a bunch of crucial mistakes that really cost us the game.

the first interception and the safety were the difference. either one of them not happening would have changed things completely.

Once a QB learns to read the field quickly and hit those check downs, he moves up a tier in skill. Teams are going to respect Beck's long ball even though its not very accurate, so he has to take advantage of that.

App state was money today by hitting those short passes over the middle -- let their skill players run after the catch. Blackman, Brown, Bowens, Baker can do the same.

it looks like we did a helluva lot better in the 2nd half, which surprised me. If anything, after that first half, it was a pretty upbeat ending.

Look we sucked in the first half. Our offense was terrible and the defense got tired. In the second half we were a different team. If we play the rest of or games like we played the second half we will be fine.

And what the hell kind of play call was that 6 yard pass on second down and 10 and the final drive? Why in the fuck would not all of your receivers be past the first down marker, knowing that we have no timeouts left to stop the clock. We'd have been much better off if Beck had thrown the ball 15 yards out of bounds. As it was we complete a 6 yard pass, the receiver tries but fails to get out of bounds and then we lose 10 seconds because we're scrambling up to the line of scrimmage trying to spike the ball. And it wasn't like this play was called with a minute 20 seconds left on the clock. No, there were 20 seconds left when we snapped the ball. Our play calling on that last drive was retarted.

Of course our play-calling on the last drive wouldn't have mattered at all if those fools had shown up to play in the first half, instead of waiting for the second half to give a shit. Man, we need to have a fucking intra-squad scrimmage before the game, and maybe our dumb-ass players will be fooled into thinking that the start of the game is actually the start of the second half. Here's to hoping...

Could it be that our coaching staff and team needed to get to know each other a little?? This was their first complete game together, against a pretty solid team. What it looked like to me was a combination of comfort/bad QB'ing. UCF KNEW daniel evans couldnt throw downfield, so they sat 8 in the box the whole first half. When beck came in and started launching....it opened EVERYTHING up

I was at the game, and no Evans definitly look great, he just wasn't pulling the trigger. I honestly don't put it all on Evans, we had -14 yards rushing in the first half and while watching I didn't see Evans miss too many wide open guys. He also had a lot of constant pressure in his face. It seemed like their def had our number as we were bootlegging into the blizt almost every play.

Having a rushing game will do a heck of a lot for a passing game.

Overall, Beck seemed to have a lot more pocket pressence than Evans but not the arm or accuracy. Daniel can be a great passer when he can get a rythm and pulls the trigger...unfortunately he didn't do either tonight. Our Oline def stepped it up in the second half, as did the defense.

Just pointing out that doesn't make any sense at all...our Oline looked horrible, bottom line. They couldn't block anything, that's what allowed UCF to play coverage, they didn't have to keep 8 in the box, our Oline was getting destroyed. Evans has a stronger and more accurate arm than Beck, but Beck was the one actually pulling the trigger so the nod goes to him.

Yea he did look good with the short ball and we seemed to find some roome to run. But he couldn't hit a reciever down the field to save his life. Even the 4th and 1 toss to a wide open Stone was way behind him. Stone had to completley stop and turn around.

The o-line got better in the second half and Beck stood up and took hits but made the pass. The D. Evans era is over. As much as we all hate moral victories, we looked like a pretty decent team in the second half.

Seeing as how Beck gets the start now, it's pretty reasonable to expect us to play better than we did the first half from now on.

You also gotta believe that with first string practice, beck will be able to hit at least 1/3 long balls to open guys. That will be enough to open up the middle.
