Can our guys not see themselves losing focus every fucking game? Do they not know that the losing team is going to increase their level play in the second half?

The losing team has to take risks, overplay passing lanes, and double team in order to catch up. Anticipate that and punish them for it.

We act like this shit is new to us, like we have never played a basketball game before.

Well we're at the halfway point of the ACC regular season.

We look like a longshot to make the NCAA tournament. We're right on pace to go 7-9 in the conference, which clearly won't be good enough.

If we manage to overachieve in the 2nd half and go 8-8 we'd still likely need two tournament wins to thrust us into the NCAA's. Since we can't beat Duke or UNC that means we'd have to finish 6th or better in the conference and upset the #3 seed (likely Clemson who blew us out already).

9-7 is our absolute ceiling but if we managed to pull off that miracle and win our first round game we'd be a pretty easy NCAA selection.


I will give credit to Sidney for getting things turned around and not completely mailing in the season, but it looks like we've dug too big of a hole to climb out of.

Some of the issues (terrible PG play once Degand went down, Costner's total lack of effort, McCauley's regression) we've had this season have been tough challenges for Sidney.

On the other hand you have to attribute a lot of blame to

- His inability to recognize we are a better team when Costner plays fewer minutes

- Lack of organization on defense (although tonight's was fantastic)

- Playing Horner/Ferguson too much at inopportune times


This season is a solid C- for Sidney so far. If he can put together a miracle and get us to 9-7 or even a mini miracle and get us to 8-8 I'd be willing to re-evaluate, but the fact is a lot of talent has been squandered thus far.

Rally, You might get killed for that analysis, but it's much closer to being right than wrong. One thing, which pertains to the NCAA. We ain't beating UNC and duke as you mention. This puts us going 5-1 in the remaining 6 to get to 9-7. In other words forget it. This team can get to 8-8, which would be great if you had asked me when we were 1-3. Too many turnovers down the stretch, this team doesn't have one player I consider a heady player. You can look at any starter and point out at least two brain dead plays each game, and of course, the juniors and seniors have less wiggle room for those to me. I still don't understand how we can manage to use more timeouts more frequently than a team we lead the whole game. 8-8 with at least one win in the ACCT would be fantastic and puts us as a 40-50% chance of getting in.

- 4-4 /= on pace for 7-9
- he did recognize costners negative impact, didn't start the last two games before he got hurt
- horner has been good, and ferguson played well in his only PT in the last 10 games (last game)

this is not an ncaa tourney calibur team yet. there has been progress, but man, there are some stupid mistakes made that make average players laugh

It's not like I missed last season.

I recognize Coster can be an amazing asset when he's in shape and gives a consistent effort.

It shouldn't be Sidney's responsibility to make sure Costner has his fucking head glued on, but it is Sidney's responsibility to hold Costner accountable for his lack of conditioning, piss poor effort, and general dissent from team oriented basketball before it digs us such a deep hole.

i did not disagree with this at all. i just don't think him playing completely cost us a couple games. sure, he was more productive last year and he sucks tits this year, but singlehandedly he didn't cost us multiple games. (in my opinion)

Yeah, I mean in all honesty best case scenario we should be 5-3 in ACC play.

However, I just don't think we're playing at the level we'd need to be at to go 4-4 in the 2nd half.

We took a giant dump in the non-conference season and now 8-8 probably isn't good enough and it's going to be tough to even get in that position.

We have the talent to have had a strong non-conference season and a 9-7 ACC regular season.

Not only did we accomplish neither, we weren't really that close.

no, i dont b/c 50% of the games played to this point have ended by 3 points / less or have gone into OT

the middle of the ACC is very competitive and this will hurt the ACC come NCAA selection time.
as of right now the ACC will more than likely have 4 [5 at the most] teams make the dance

I mean, we pretty much have to win one of those if we're going to reach 9-7. I'd say it's a lot more likely we win one of those games than win all of our remaining road games. Neither one is very likely which is why 9-7 is still looooooooooooooong shot. We'll know a lot more after these next two games.

come on man, we haven't even finished the second half of ACC play and you said we didn't accomplish 9-7 and we aren't close? What the fuck are you talking about? It is amazing to me that people think they can see the future when a lot of you were predicting us to not win a fucking ACC game and here we are at 4-4.

If we beat G Tech at home (BIG IF) then we are sitting at #3 in the conference with a 5-3 record. If I were grading Sid I would give him a higher grade than a C- with the PG situation and him being a 2nd year coach in the ACC. Everyone was talking we would not win a conference game and we win 3 of the last 4 and you are still bitching.


I think we are sitting real pretty in the ACC right in the middle of things in the middle of the fucking ACC season.

However I do think it is spot on that he should have cut Costner's minutes a lot sooner than he did. That lazy bitch

i agree. given clemson's track record of fading late in the seasong (crossing fingers it will happen again this year) we could definitely beat them. i think we will play both them and duke A LOT better at home with our crowd behind us. beating carolina might be a long shot, but i honestly think we have a realistic chance of beating both duke and clemson.

beating one and reaching 9-7 should be enough to get us in, but beating both - even ending at 9-7 - i would think would surely get us in to the NCAAs.
