Quote : | " McCain has been releasing a series of ads more or less on the Democratic convention's own themes, and today's is security. Today's uses Obama quotes on Iran and Israel to call Obama "dangerously unprepared." The ad conflates Obama's quotes about America's security and Israel's, suggesting, I suppose, that they're identical, and stretches fairly badly out of context.
Obama has said that Iran doesn't pose the same kind of threat to the U.S. that the Soviet Union did (which seems indisputable). But McCain is hoping the nuance doesn't go over so well here, and the conventional wisdom is that Obama doesn't want to get into an argument in which he explains that he was just talking about Israel.
DENVER - I have to agree with Greg Sargent and Andrew Sullivan about McCain's new ad. As a matter of politics, the ad is quite effective, but to generate that effect the McCain campaign has taken Obama's words out of context. Obama did not say Iran was "tiny" or "didn't pose a threat". He said it was tiny and didn't pose a threat compared to the size and threat posed by the former Soviet Union. (That said, in his original remarks Obama did lump Iran in the same category as Cuba, which is a naive and foolish comparison to make)." | [quote]

Who the hell are you calling a kid, you condescending asshole?
I responded to YOUR response if you recall...I never went out of my way to bitch about the media until you guys wouldn't shut the fuck up about it on and on and on and I had had enough by that point. Hell, you even dedicated a thread to JUST THAT - liberal media bias. It's a joke. Eventually I couldn't take the swarming buzz and made a counterpoint about how the media is NOT in fact in the tank for Obama and the dems whatsoever, but rather they swarm and scruitnize him to death that hurt his projection to TV viewers. There's no denying it.
The fact you think my eventual (and somewhat annoyed) response to your ridiculous claims about the media bias is a double standard shows your short attention span (i.e. 1 page of this thread despite months if not years of bullshit in soap box)

I think the whining comes in because Republicans keep complaining about how Obama is the media's darling, when the poll numbers show no correlation to those particular delusions.

New Time Article on John McCain he is described as 'angry', 'rude', and 'prickly' to the journalists. What the hell is his problem?
Quote : | " Joe Klein weighs in:
All right. Politicians hate these sorts of process questions--why aren't you hanging out with the press the way you used to do?--but John McCain's crude and angry response to my colleagues strikes me as further evidence of a man who has lost his bearings this year. I mean, he refuses to define what he means by 'honor'? How embarrassing for him.
For the record, I was one of the journalists McCain talked to about his anguish during the Keating Five episode. He believed he was unfairly accused--included because the other four were Democrats and the Democratic majority in the Senate needed the scandal to appear bipartisan. (I interviewed several of his Democratic colleagues who backed his version of events at the time--and he was found to be innocent of any wrongdoing.) But he did say to me--I remember this very clearly; it was at the Republican Convention in 1996 and it was not out of context--that the Keating Five episode was harder, in some ways, than being a prisoner of war because his honor had been called into question. He said there were some days that he was so bummed he could barely leave the house. I took these remarks as strong evidence of McCain's candor and humanity--they were the sort of thing few other politicians would have the guts to say--and it's very sad that that iteration of John McCain, the mensch, has disappeared into the maw of his angry candidacy." |
----------------------------
Quote : | "
so when TIME's James Carney and Michael Scherer were invited to the front of McCain's plane recently for an interview, they were ushered forward, past the curtain that now separates reporters from the candidate, past the sofa that was designed for his gabfests with the press and taken straight to the candidate's seat. McCain at first seemed happy enough to do the interview. But his mood quickly soured. The McCain on display in the 24-minute interview was prickly, at times abrasive, and determined not to stray off message.
There's a theme that recurs in your books and your speeches, both about putting country first but also about honor. I wonder if you could define honor for us? Read it in my books.
I've read your books. No, I'm not going to define it.
But honor in politics? I defined it in five books. Read my books.
Do you miss the old way of doing it? I don't know what you're talking about.
Really? Come on, Senator. I'll provide as much access as possible ...
In 2000, after the primaries, you went back to South Carolina to talk about what you felt was a mistake you had made on the Confederate flag. Is there anything so far about this campaign that you wish you could take back or you might revisit when it's over? [Does not answer.]
Do I know you? [Says with a laugh.] [Long pause.] I'm very happy with the way our campaign has been conducted, and I am very pleased and humbled to have the nomination of the Republican Party.
You do acknowledge there was a change in the campaign, in the way you had run the campaign? [Shakes his head.]
You don't acknowledge that? O.K., when your aides came to you and you decided, having been attacked by Barack Obama, to run some of those ads, was there a debate? The campaign responded as planned. " |

Quote : | " Obama supporters risibly complain that shining a light on the Obama/Ayers relationship is a “smear” and smacks of “guilt by association.” A presidential candidate’s choice to associate himself with an unrepentant terrorist would be highly relevant in any event — does anyone think the Obamedia would keep mum if John McCain had a long-standing relationship with David Duke or an abortion-clinic bomber?
Bluntly, Obama has lied about his relationship with Ayers... they sat together for three years on the board of the Woods Fund, a left-wing enterprise that distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to their ideological allies. Most significant, they worked closely together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC).
Ayers ran its operational arm, the “Chicago School Reform Collaborative.” Obama, then a 33-year-old, third-year associate at a small law firm, having no executive experience, was brought in to chair the board of directors, which oversaw all “fiscal matters.”
By the time the CAC’s operations were wound down in 2001 it had doled out more than $100 million in grants but had failed to achieve any improvement in the Chicago schools. What little is known about the grants Obama oversaw is troubling.
Kurtz has obviously hit a nerve. It is the same nerve hit by the American Issues Project, whose television ad calling for examination of the Obama/Ayers relationship has prompted the Obama campaign to demand that the Justice Department begin a criminal investigation. Obama fancies himself as “post-partisan.” He is that only in the sense that he apparently brooks no criticism. This episode could be an alarming preview of what life will be like for the media should the party of the Fairness Doctrine gain unified control of the federal government next year. " |

Just heard about this excerpt from a talk Obama was giving in Pennsylvania:
Quote : | "“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.
So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’" | http://tinyurl.com/6b8s8y

The irony of your position is that you're voting for the guy who will "give" you the most . . . including things he has absolutely no control over . . . but still lower your taxes so you feel good about being a small-government conservative.
I mean, are you for real? McCain doesn't have the power to authorize nuclear power plants, that is the job of the NERC. Even if he could waive his hand and authorize immediate construction, it can take up to 20 years to come on line. He'll likely be dead by then. He also has no power over the purse strings, that is the role of the legislative branch. Apparently they don't teach civics at NCSU any more.

Inform yourselves.
"If Obama's relationship with Ayers, however tangential, exposes Obama as a radical himself, or at least as a man with terrible judgment, he shares that radicalism or terrible judgment with a comically respectable list of Chicagoans and others — including Republicans and conservatives — who have embraced Ayers and Dohrn as good company, good citizens, even experts on children's issues."

Here the Spanish prime minister is only four months from an end to his government's strained relations with that of President George W. Bush and blam! — along comes John McCain to suggest the next four years might not be any better. During an interview in Miami earlier this week with Spanish-language station Union Radio, a reporter asked McCain whether, if elected, he would receive Zapatero in the White House. McCain answered, "Honestly, I have to analyze our relationships, situations, and priorities, but I can assure you that I will establish closer relationships with our friends, and I will stand up to those who want to harm the United States."
Ouch. The question about Zapatero, clearly framed by the reporter as a question about Spain..." |

Quote : | "The Rain In Spain Mainly Falling on McCain
To recap, tonight we've been discussing Sen. McCain's bizarre interview in which he appeared not to know who Spanish Prime Minister Zapatero was and, in an effort to wing it, assumed he must be another left-wing, anti-American leader from Latin America. In the Spanish press analysis of the interview, at least, many seem uncertain whether McCain even knows where Spain is, though that strikes me as a bit excessive.
Just how this will get played in the American press will be interesting to see because it cuts to two of McCain's key vulnerabilities -- the first being his apparently rather shaky foreign policy experience if can't identify the leader of a major NATO ally and the second being what I guess we would call declining mental acuity.
