I'm excited to see Earl Wolff this year. Reports to the public say he is tearing it up and really impressing Archer. He should be an easy fan favorite.

Yeah, I had already pegged Wolff as the next Nate Irving -- a guy that comes from a relatively small NC school, not ranked high by the pundits, but turns into a star once he gets his feet wet. Nothing I've read so far has caused me to change that opinion.

It helps that he's fast as hell -- reported 4.3 in the spring. That's scary speed for a safety who likes to hit.

Another quality post from ESPN Listing the toughest non conference schedules in the SEC, they have USC at #2. Not arguing with the ranking but look at the teams listed in the quote...

Quote :
"2. South Carolina: The Gamecocks face three teams that went to bowls a year ago, including NC State on the road to open the season in a Thursday night game. Florida Atlantic and South Carolina visit Columbia. Having that Clemson game on the tail end of a grueling SEC slate is also anything but ideal."

Damn USC is playing itself. That should be a great game

the N&O had an article today about TOB taking the team to visit some wounded marines:
NCSU players spend time with Marines
Quote :
"

JACKSONVILLE -- You couldn't wipe the smile off Cpl. Bobby Joseph's face with a beach towel and bottle of 409.

The visit by members of N.C. State's football team to Camp Lejeune had that effect on Joseph and the other Marines in the Wounded Warrior Battalion on Thursday.

"I was actually going to go home and sleep," Joseph said. "This was worth it."
WOUNDED8.SP.061109.EDH.jpg WOUNDED4.SP.061109.EDH.jpg WOUNDED7.SP.061109.EDH.jpg
N.C. State's Shea McKeen spends time with Sgt. Teddy Cardenas as Wolfpack football players visit wounded Marines at Camp Lejeune.

For Wolfpack coach Tom O'Brien, who served nine years in the Marine Corps, the second annual trip to visit the Wounded Warrior Barracks, where injured and ill Marines convalesce, is a way of thanking the war veterans and adding a sobering dose of reality to his own players. A group of a dozen Marines, most age 19 to 22, spent an hour and a half talking with the Wolfpack contingent.

"Our guys think they are special," O'Brien said. "I think it's important that they are around a bunch of people that are really special, that have done so much to keep us free and protect us."

It was Joseph, 27, who took center stage in the barracks' recreation room, entertaining the gathered Wolfpack crowd of about 20 players and coaches with his, well, war stories. Armed with his laptop and a megawatt smile, Joseph showed the players pictures from his combat duty in Iraq, an ad hoc slideshow that included everything from his machine gun to his wounds.

A roadside bomb in Anah, Iraq, left Joseph with 200 pieces of shrapnel in his body and a hole the size of a whiffle ball in his left calf. He entered the Wounded Warrior Battalion in January 2007. In another two months, his rehabilitation will end, and he'll head back to his home in Florida.

Visits like the one by the Wolfpack on Thursday help keep Joseph motivated and focused on his recovery.

"This place can be depressing," he said. "It's not what happens here, but we're all afraid of what's going to happen next."

Joseph wasn't the only Marine with visual evidence of combat. Cpl. Karl Golian showed a group of players a video on his iPod of a Cobra helicopter airstrike in Iraq.

Golian's video hit N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon.

"That was mind-blowing," Glennon said. "That just goes to show how fortunate we are."

That's the impression O'Brien was hoping his players would get.

"Maybe they'll remember when they're a little tired or a little sore, the sacrifices these men have made," O'Brien said.

Not all of O'Brien's intentions with the visit were altruistic. He said he's trying to convert fans.

"It gives them somebody to root for," O'Brien said, joking.

It's working. A white "Let's Go Pack" banner, adorned with the autographs of the N.C. State players who visited in 2007 and on Thursday, hangs between the two televisions in the rec room.
"

all I have to say is TOB is the fucking man.

Southern Pigskin picks us as the 5th best linebacking corps in the conference:
Quote :
"5. NC State – Junior Nate Irving is one of the ACC’s most feared defenders and a player who will be a national name this season. He is a versatile, athletic talent who plays with an aggressive style. Senior Ray Michael also returns and provides a veteran presence in the middle of the field. Freshman Terrell Manning got rave reviews this off-season and could make an impact."

we weren't in their O-Line rankings, which is totally reasonable since the O-line COULD be pretty good with all the younger guys maturing and making progress but is still a bit of a question mark at this point.

ESPN's College Football Live is doing their 50 states tour and the state of North Carolina will be aired on August 5th, which makes it the second to last state to be aired. Florida is the last state. There will be upcoming chances to vote on best player and best team. When the polls open up we need to skew them in our favor, b/c hey recruits watch those shows and let's face it ESPN, whether we like it or not, carries a lot of weight in influencing these teenage boys. Look at Duke basketball's meteoric rise with the rise in popularity of ESPN.

but i don't get mad about some retard on a podcast.

i'm just fucking with you man. Your posts up here are pretty quality more often than not. I guess I just get upset because there is alot of truth to it despite what people think. I got into UNC and State so I really don't understand some people's inferiority complex. It's just annoying that alot of our fanbase are people that didn't get into UNC and eventually become Carolina haters as opposed to State fans.

I'd also had a bit to drink last night and felt the need to be heard.

^ our packpride board is always talking about UNC because we are obsessed with them.

Other than football we are behind them in the majority of sports we field.

You will notice that now that we have beat them twice in a row in football, including the ass whipping 41-10, that their football boards have had a lot more state threads.

This is just what happens when you cant beat a rival.

And its a reasonable conclusion to reach if you look at out packpride board.

I had a dream last night that we lost to these guys again.

I never miss going to a game, but in my dream I decided to pass on going for some reason. Once the game started, I realized WTF am i doing... I need to be there. I made it to the game for the 2nd half, and we lost a close game. I was like..fuck.. all that hype for the same shit all over again.

More like we're obsessed with the whole "not being as good as UNC in damn near everything, but specifically in basketball."

Much as I hate admitting it, the State fanbase as a whole is definitely obsessed with beating UNC (and Duke for that matter) in basketball. None of us particularly enjoy watching the dookies and tarholes have success year in and year out while State stumbles along under the radar and out of spotlight. To be fair to State fans, the situation sucks. It sucks a whole freakin' lot. But let's not kid ourselves by saying we're not obsessed with UNC. Beating those pussies - and getting damn respect for a program that has a lot to be proud of historically - is far and away the single-most important thing to the average State fan.

^ I agree witht that. I mean think about it there are two things that every coach should strive for; winning championships and beating their rival(s). Those are the two things that all coaches are judged by historically and what determines how the fans feel about a coach. Look at John Cooper at Ohio State as one big example of this. Hell he had two second place finishes in the final polls and had won three Big Ten championships, even though they were shared. His 2–10–1 record against Michigan and lack of a national championship is what did him in.

I hope this does not happen. first off....^^. Second ^. Third we need to master a good win or two. It has been a while since we have won a game that we have really had hype (nationally) going into.

Blackouts and redouts will not work unless the shirts are issued to the crowd. Someone should be at the section entrances and not allow people in unless they have a red shirt on. THIS INCLUDES THE SORORITY GIRLS. They can do the sun dresses, but red would be appropriate.

Rivals pegs us as having the easiest schedule in the ACC:
Quote :
"Easiest
N.C. State: There are eight home games – the Wolfpack are one of just seven teams nationally with eight – and two games against Football Championship Subdivision members. Five of the first six games are at home. Both of their tough non-conference games are at home. The toughest road game is the last one, on Nov. 21 against Virginia Tech. "
