PLZ to not get to red zone and drop a pass 10 yards short of a wide open receiver in the end zone.

Quote : | "Changes with Hurney out? 10:07 AM ETCarolina Panthers Recommend0Comments0Email The Carolina Panthers appear to have regressed significantly this season, and with the bye week in their rearview mirror, a coaching change seemed unlikely for the duration of the campaign. However, the team has made a big move on Monday morning, firing long-time GM Marty Hurney, according to an official announcement from the club.
It's certainly an interesting decision, given that firing a GM won't necessarily alter the on-field product in any direct way. But, it has been clear during the Ron Rivera era that there was a conflict between the front office and the coaching staff; to wit, the Panthers spent eleventy billion dollars [Editor's note: numbers are an approximation] on new contracts for their running backs -- and have one of the NFL's best running QBs -- and have run the ball only 149 times this season, good for 25th in the league. That's a disconnect.
Well, the Rivera camp appears to have won. Whether this results in any on-field changes in the near future remains to be seen.

Still knee jerk as hell. When you fire a coach midseason you can at least get an interim replacement and use it as a test run to see if you can hire him full-time. What good is an interim GM? It's not like he's making major personnel moves midyear.10/22/2012 11:10:07 AM |
Prawn Star All American 7643 Posts user info edit post |
It should be obvious that the real problem is that stubborn sonuvabitch Jerry Richardson. Hurney only stuck around as long as he did by doing Big Cat's bidding, and now he's taking the fall like a good soldier. The reality is that every move Hurney has made was either directed or signed off by Richardson. In terms of scouting, we can all agree that Hurney blows and couldn't manage a draft to save his life, but the decision to tank 2 years ago and then hand out huge contracts made by Richardson, not Hurney.
If Richardson can swallow his pride and hire a GM with a backbone, one who can stand up to Big Cat, some real good might come out of this. Hurney wasn't that guy. Maybe the next GM will be.
