While watching the play full speed, I didn't think it was unnecessary roughness on the TD catch. And looking at that pic, he was trying to knock the ball out. And he almost did. Its a good play and I don't know how they can call it a penalty. 10/7/2012 1:11:49 PM |

If he hits him, knocks the ball loose and it hits the ground, game over FSU wins. Even if he did come down with 2 feet, he still has to maintain control. 10/7/2012 1:15:39 PM |

it was unnecessary roughness because he came in high and hit his helmet a little bit.

Yeah, you only have to maintain control if you're going to the ground. That was a td as soon as he had control and one foot down. The FSU player basically launched himself after the play.

I'm talking about live speed on the field, not slow mo replay. If Underwood drops the ball, its not a touchdown and not a penalty. And also I guess the obvious argument of rule changes are making the game weak. It's football stupid rules making it seem more like soccer. Oh not lets not hit anybody hard, the might get hurt. Oh then don't play the game.
What's next, someone might get hurt in boxing. Change the rules so nobody gets hurt. As my high school coach said, "football is a series of violent collisions." If you are scared, don't play.

no its about it being in the end zone. what you are saying would be legitimate at the 1 yard line, but because it was in the end zone the play was over before homeboy even tried to hit underwood. 10/7/2012 1:29:22 PM |
mdmurphy919 Veteran 415 Posts user info edit post |
I get that the endzone is what is making the difference here. But if the ball comes out, its called incomplete, gets reviewed and overturned to TD. And there is no penalty. You're right about the endzone, but why should he not try to make a play and try to knock the ball out just because he is in the endzone? 10/7/2012 1:32:06 PM |

No anger - I'm just being condescending because you're an idiot.
Yes, let's let the defensive player try to make a play. Let's say we give the defense 60 seconds to make the play after the offense is in the endzone. That'll make it fun, right? Despite it not making any sense.

^^^Are you serious?! You are saying 60 seconds is the same as someone that was running towards the play and got there at most 2 steps late? I'm not sure if you are being condescending again or actually think that you are being funny. And I do wonder where I look like an idiot? The part where I said I was wrong about something? Or the part where I think a play that would have been legal back in the day, saying it should be legal now?
^^ What am I arguing? I'm saying it should have been a clean hit. And minus the recent rule changes it would have been.

dammit it was just getting good too. he was 15 minutes into criticizing the band for eating ice cream. He knows its hot out there because he was in the marching band and graduated in 1997 so he's been there but "you're there to do a job!" and your job is not to entertain friends and family.
The old band director had more discipline he would have guys walk up and down reminding the band not to lean on the rails.
That was one of the funniest videos ever. 23 minutes. the first 2 minutes about football, the next 21 ranting about the band.
He's like Shaq criticizing Dwight Howard. You had your time in the band buddy! Move on!

Yes, it is a series of violent collisions, however what the refs/rules are trying to do is cut way down on helmet to helmet collisions due to the huge risk of brain damage if repeated and horse collar tackles because of the large risk of your head being thrown straight into the ground and breaking people's legs due to the awkward position. A violent collision doesn't mean helmet to helmet, you can lower your shoulder and knock the shit out of someone. However the rule changes are to protect the players, I mean shit the NFL has a lawsuit right now from 1000 former players who received brain damage or other brain related problems as a result of concussions. I don't understand how anyone could support helmet to helmet contact, this coming from a guy who did it every game in HS as outside LB. I only did this in HS and I royally fucked up my spine, after 4-5 years I am just now getting off of pain medicine. I'm not going to get into that, but you are either retarded, or you don't understand the rule changes. A concussion is basically the brain slamming into the skull as a result of head trauma (helmet to helmet). As NFL players have shown us this can lead to Alzheimer's Disease and insanity in the case of Jeff Komlo (see SI link below). We all want to see big hits, that is one of the reasons a lot of us watch football (kind of like wrecks in NASCAR), but just like in NASCAR there must be rules and safety in consideration. Just like in NASCAR after enough deaths they changed the rules and changed parts of the race tracks and the cars. Do you see NASCAR fans getting upset that they are making the Sport safer? You aren't the one down there on the field getting your bell rung because some hyped up linebacker wants to take a kill shot on you, so it is easy to say oh, there are too many rules, I want to see people getting their helmets knocked off. I would probably be saying the same thing if I wasn't dealing chronic severe neck pain (now without pain meds), but you have to consider the player, his family, the future of the sport, and that you are playing with fire when it comes to helmet to helmet collisions.

All of this "ruined the ACC" shit makes me sick.
Two things.
First, if FSU had gone undefeated this year and made it to the title game, it would have been an absolute farce and only because of the ACC's relative weakness. If FSU was THAT GOOD, they would not have lost to us. We outplayed them, period, and they lost. That means that they aren't as good as advertised and shouldn't have been in the title game (or in consideration for the title game) anyway.
A true national title contender doesn't lose a game on the road just because the home team decides they want to play above their expected level. A true national title contender can hold on to a 16 point lead when the heat is turned up and not fold over like pussies as the Seminoles did last night.
Secondly, overall, this is why the BCS system sucks dick. In the NFL, if a team goes 15-1 or whatever and loses just one bad road game, they can still win the Super Bowl by winning the playoffs. But if Bama loses to Southeast Vermont State tomorrow, they likely have no shot at making it to the title game.
So, if you're pissed that State brought their A-game and took out FSU at home, you should complain about the BCS system. Not about the team that played their hearts out for a big, primetime win.
Go Pack. I'm glad we stripped their title chances. In fact I hope they don't lose another game all year, just to make it hurt that much more. 10/7/2012 5:15:08 PM |

bullshit, the play is still live. The player still has to maintain control. if he didn't, then the idea of "maintaining control to the ground" wouldn't be at issue in so many TD replays. Making the hit was perfectly legal and legit. If our guy drops the ball due to the hit, I guarantee you the call is NOT a TD, it's an incomplete pass. That hit came soon enough to influence the call.
But, if the fucker led with his helmet or made helmet-to-helmet contact, then the call is right.10/7/2012 6:42:18 PM |
