Someone in one of these threads (maybe in a specific game thread) said it was ridiculous to think we'd get to 10 ACC wins. Not looking too bad at this point. We only have to win half of the games we have remaining to get there.

UNC, FSU, Miami, ND, Clemson, GT, Wake, UVA, Louisville, VT, UNC, BC Clemson, Syracuse

I still think we split UNC on the season and lose to Louisville, ND, and UVA because we've already used up our WTF win. That leaves us 4-5, and needing to win 6 of the other 9. 6 of those games are against the worst 6 in the conference, so it would be sad not to get there at this point.

The only problem with that thought is that 4 of our 7 games against the bottom of the conference are away games. We've never proven that we could win road games in the ACC on a consistent basis. Hopefully we can change that this year.

Need to come away at least 1-1 this weekend (really need to beat FSU).

After that, I think we can take ND if Auguste remains out & it being a home game---then should handle Clemson at home after that.

GT will be tough despite their ACC record so far (away game), so let's say L. We also need to bring as many fans as we can to the Wake game (sucks that it's a Tues night, but tickets should be easy to come by!)---I say W.

UVA & Louisville = Ls

VT = W

UNC = L

BC, Clemson = need to split at the very least

Should beat Syracuse since we tend to come on strong at the end of the season & they lost one of their players for the season.

So if we go 7-6 the rest of the way, we should still finish 10-8.

If two things would happen, we could be a Sweet Sixteen team.

1) Barber needs to start taking and hitting outside shots

2) Lennard Freeman needs to become a threat to score and develop post moves (Dude is a rebounding/defensive beast)

Freeman was starting to trend upward at the end of the season so I had high hopes for this year. I remember him being super aggressive in the Syracuse game and duke game. It seems like he's too content to be a support player rather than a scorer. Wonder if that is Gott's intention or not.

^^^ agreed but thats gonna be hard to get. its do-able but hard. players usually come to college with those types of attributes, and if either of them had those to compliment the rest of their game, they would not have ended up at nc state

I am starting to believe, but cautiously.

I love the passion we have seen recently, but we just played our 2 biggest rivals. If they can bring that energy every game, we should be a NCAA team, ready to make real noise.

Most of our play this year has been consistent, except for the rebounding variable. We look like world beaters when winning the rebounding game; Easy put-backs, second chance threes, etc. We are too streaky with shooting to rely on getting bailed out by Turner and Lacy's 3's. We don't live and die by the three as much as live and die by the rebounding.

L Sunday, Jan. 25 NOTRE DAME * PNC Arena 6:30 p.m. ESPNU
W Wednesday, Jan. 28 CLEMSON * PNC Arena 9 p.m. ACCN
L Saturday, Jan. 31 at Georgia Tech * Atlanta, Ga. 12 p.m. ACCN
W FEBRUARY Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Wake Forest * Winston-Salem, N.C. 8 p.m. ACCN
L Wednesday, Feb. 11 VIRGINIA * PNC Arena 8 p.m. ACCN
L Saturday, Feb. 14 at Louisville * Louisville, Ky. 4 p.m. ESPN/ESPN2
W Saturday, Feb. 21 VIRGINIA TECH * PNC Arena 6 p.m. ESPN2
L Tuesday, Feb. 24 at North Carolina * Chapel Hill, N.C. 8 p.m. ACCN
W Saturday, Feb. 28 at Boston College * Chestnut Hill, Mass. 12 p.m. ACCN
W Tuesday, March 3 at Clemson * Clemson, S.C. 9 p.m. RSN
L Saturday, March 7 SYRACUSE * PNC Arena 12 p.m. CBS

Finish 9-9, NIT. Games in bold most likely to flip to a W. We'll need an 11-7 or better finish for NCAA imo.

^I think @Miami, ND, @GT, Cuse all are games we could definitely win. I think it's much more realistic that we go 2-2 there rather than 0-4. I could see us losing a head scratcher on the road like @Clemson or @BC though.

Didn't Cuse start out mediocre and recently lose their starting center?

I felt like Notre Dame just academically suspended a big time player as well.

Yeah ND's Zach Auguste averages like 14 ppg and was suspended indefinitely for academic issues

Syracuse's Chris McCullough is done for the year with an injury. They weren't really that great before he got hurt (got hurt last week I think). Their record is solid, 13-4 (4-0), but in the ACC they've only played VT, GT, FSU, and WF. So their record seems kinda inflated to me. But I haven't really watched them much this year. Just given their schedule, they could start 7-0 in the ACC. Their next games are @Clemson, BC, Miami and then @UNC. So they could easily start 7-0 without any good ACC wins.

We won't have to go 11-7. 10 wins or 9 + an ACCT win would get us in. The ACC is strong enough this year that our RPI and SOS will be high, and we'll have a quality win vs. Duke, and the Pitt win will look good by the time the year is over. League will probably put 8 possibility 9 teams in to the tournament this year. 9-10 wins might put us right on the bubble but I don't think we have to get to 11. Next two games are huge, better idea of where we stand after that.

I still think we finish #6 in the conference with 9 or 10 wins. As long as we can get to round 3 of the ACCT (bye in round 1, win in round 2 against #10 team or worse), we should be in. Because then we get a chance to rematch against one of the top 4, and even if we lose it still boosts our sos/rpi/other numbers people look at.

On a related thought...this new tournament setup is awful. the top 4 teams don't have to play until day 3? Should be 2 teams with one bye, so 12 teams play day 1, then 8 teams day 2, 4 teams day 3, championship day 4. Now a #10 team would have to win 5 days in a row to make a run.

All has to do with TV and venue logistics. Can only play so many games in one day and if you split rounds over 2 days the event starts to drag on and it's already too many days.

How far would you be willing to drive to see NCSU in an NCAA game, IF we made the NCAA tourney?

Round of 64/32
Charlotte, NC - 2:42 hours away from Raleigh
Jacksonville, FL - 6:45
Columbus, OH - 7:41
Pittsburgh, PA - 7:53
Louisville, KY - 8:39
Omaha, NE - 18:54
Seattle, WA - 41:44
Portland, OR - 41:59

Regionals
Cleveland, OH - 8:48
Syracuse, NY - 10:18
Houston, TX - 18:05
Los Angeles, CA - 36:34

Final 4
Indianapolis, IN - 9:52

I enjoy road trips, especially if I am going to a sporting event. Anything less than 11 hours would be nice. Of course flying is an option, but then the only real deciding factor is cost, since time isn't much of a deciding factor when flying. Considering I have friends in western NY and southern OH makes many of these locations good destinations.

I'd consider the first 5 for the Round of 64/32 if I had the time/money. After that, maybe Cleveland/Syracuse---just depends on financials/team performance. But if we make it to the FInal 4 again at any point, I'm there no matter where it is.

Went to Columbus last time we were there. Would go again.

I don't think I'd go to a final four unless I won free tickets/trip. Basketball isn't supposed to be played in football stadiums. I'd just assume stay home as spend an insane amount of money for seats where you can't even tell who is on the court.

Today's bracketology has us as #10 playing against Arkansas. The expectation would then be Maryland in the 2nd round, and I'd like a chance to kick their conference-jumping asses.

Round of 64/32
Charlotte, NC - 2:42 hours away from Raleigh (definitely would go)
Jacksonville, FL - 6:45 (have friends live in the area and it would be fun so 90% chance)
Columbus, OH - 7:41 (I won't step foot in the dump unless really good teams there and favorable matchup so 10% chance)
Pittsburgh, PA - 7:53 (maybe, I have never been to that city? 50%)
Louisville, KY - 8:39 (75% dependent on Matchup and if its Friday Sunday or Thursday Saturday)
Omaha, NE - 18:54 (HELL NO-0 percent)
Seattle, WA - 41:44 (Can't afford it, would be cool. 0 percent)
Portland, OR - 41:59 (lmao....maybe get lucky get a flight and smoke some reefer? nahhhh 2% chance.)
So I am praying for CLT, Jax, or Louisville (the yum center would be awesome)

Regionals
Cleveland, OH - 8:48 (if we made it this far of course)
Syracuse, NY - 10:18 (50-50)
Houston, TX - 18:05 (think that would be fun, maybe? 25%)
Los Angeles, CA - 36:34 (LOL, flights...but turn it into a vegas trip?)

Final 4
Indianapolis, IN - 9:52 (if we made it I would have to determine would I like to be in Raleigh to party and then Sunday is easter with Family and then championship game here...or would I rather say i have been to one?) 50-50

our losses are to

purdue (78 kenpom, 110 rpi)
wofford (106 kenpom, 52 rpi)
west virginia (15 kenpom, 22 rpi)
cincy (31 kenpom, 33 rpi)
uva (1 kenpom, 2 rpi)
unc (7 kenpom, 12 rpi)
miami (46 kenpom, 57 rpi)

so the good news, i guess, is that using RPI (which the committee does) we really only have 1 bad loss...and it was on the road, early in the season. the tennessee win (only 77 kenpom, but 42 rpi) is looking solid, and of course the duke win is big. richmond, boise, la tech, pitt are all top 100 RPI too.

going 4-0 in these next 4 would be huge. but i think 3-1 wouldn't necessarily do us in by any stretch.

I think we need a win vs one of the ranked opponents we have left; ND, UVA, Lou, UNC. I think the Duke win will look more like a fluke if we don't get one of those and the rest of our schedule is against the bottom feeders of the ACC. (I think by the time we play Syracuse, they will be in a tailspin).

I think we'll beat ND. We played UVA tough and I think home court could swing that in our favor this time around. I doubt we win in Louisville. We played UNC tough but historically we suck in the Dean Dome - but it's still UNC and should be a good game if we can shut down Marcus Paige.

I mean, we've got to win the ones we *should win, and steal one from UL, ND, UNC, UVA. That would put us in position, with an ACC tourney win, to get into the NCAA's without a play-in game. (maybe)

^even if we lost those 4 you listed and win the rest, we'd be 11-7 in the ACC and probably finish 5th or so. that's gonna get us in for sure

that said, its unlikely we go undefeated in those "should win" games...especially considering some are on the road.
