Upgraded from 3GS to 4S. Surprised at how much sharper the screen is and I'm enjoying dictating stuff (texts, grocery lists, etc) to Siri.

I also geeked out that now we can customize text message sounds

How's the Verizon iPhone 4?

Seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY considering dropping AT&T like a Mother-in-Law at the airport after a two week stay.

I'm immersed in the Cloud, and I would hate to give up the functionality of my systems (MBP on the way as well) for a non-Apple phone I may not need.

Oh...I know that Verizon iPhones can't do simultaneous voice and data, but do non-iPhones do it?

Yeah every other phone that's not CDMA can do it. I use it everyday at work. On a conference call on my bluetooth while checking email. Don't think I could live without it.

the vzw iphone 4 has been great, i see no need to upgrade to the 4S. i have never needed to use the data while on a call...if i'm ever on the phone for more than a few minutes i'll use a hardline anyway, and in that case i am usually in front of a computer too. i use the shit out of data and iMessage/SMS though...but to each his own.

If we switch, I'll be getting the wife the iPhone 4 (not 4S).

And, most likely, I'll get one, too...but I just wanted to see opinions on non-iPhones.

I HATED the call quality and frequent dropped calls on my AT&T iPhone 3GS. It was so bad i couldn't call anyone or else i'd get all frustrated and pissed off. I vowed to switch to Verizon.

But then when the iPhone 4S came out and i saw that AT&T had the faster 3G network with HSPA+ i was like ehh..... plus i could grandfather in my unlimited data plan. So i stuck with AT&T.

Well, i must say that the call quality is at least 4.3 million times better. No static, no echoes, no weird shit. not a single dropped call. I finally have faith in technology again, its incredible. And the data speeds are great, i'm seeing 5-7Mbpsish in the Boston area.

wife and I ordered our iphone 4s's today. verizon store didn't have any in stock so it will ship by november 11.

question: When we get the phone and go through the activation process, is connecting the phone to a computer with itunes required?
I have an itunes account but only use it for downloading apps onto the ipad from the app store...

I'm trying to understand the icloud stuff. From what i understand, when i activate my phone it will ask me if i want to use icloud...and that's where my phone will backup to the internet each day, instead of to my computeR?

In order for it to back up, there needs to be Wi-Fi and it has to be plugged into a power source.

^strange... guy told me that the only reason i needed to bring it to the store was if i wanted them to switch my contacts over (from my droid eris)... otherwise, all i needed was an itunes account and when i got the phone i could activate it and have it running without physically hooking it up to anything

okay....words...please help...

we took Fumbler's iphone 4 to the apple store today bc the home button wasn't working right. they gave him a new phone. i am now trying to restore the backup from this morning. i plugged it in, told it to restore to that backup, it says the OS version on the phone is too old (4.X) & i need to update the OS to 5 first, then restore. i update to iOS 5. it restarts, i click on restore, choose the copy of his phone from this morning, click continue. it spends about 5 minutes restoring, says the phone is going to restart & will automatically pop back up in itunes when it reboots. all of this seems normal up until it reboots. phone comes back up, shows up in itunes, but itunes comes up w/ the screen that says "set up as new phone or restore from backup." WTF

i chose the backup from this morning again, it does all the same stuff, reboots, comes back to the same screen. i googled some stuff but everything i read is about jailbreaking. the old phone was never jailbroken or anything like that. the only things it did restore were the contacts & wallpaper image (a pic from the previous phone). how do i fix this????

i had a feather on my 3g/3gs and the candyshell is much better. its rubberized on the inside and there is a lip on the front to protect the face of the phone.

apps/app data/page organization, notes, music, etc. there are 136 apps in our itunes account. not all of them go on either phone, many don't get used at all. the bigger issue here is that it is stuck in a restore loop unless i set it up as a new phone. i can tell it to restore to a backup copy of his previous phone, it installs, restarts the phone, & when it pops back up in itunes it asks to set up as new or restore. every.single.time.

does your laptop/home computer still see the network?

If so, it's (obviously) the phone.

If not, recommend restarting AE.

On another note...Apple admitted that they are having battery life problems with iOS5, and will be having a solution about "in a few weeks".

The facebook app on my iphone 4 (iOS5) has been slowed to a crawl. Scrolling is choppy as hell, slow response time, and delayed typing. It is just in the facebook app. Not any other aspect of the phone. I've checked the app store and it says it is up to date. Anyone else having this issue?

definitely having the FB problem too. sometimes I click on pics and it gives me an error. other times, i try to look at comments and it loads indefinitely. a lot wrong with that app right now.

another thing I have noticed for a while (pre-ios5) is that it doesnt recognize when i am talking on the phone well enough. i accidentally mute and press other buttons all the time. it sucks.
