haha, did anyone watch the Heads Up Championship where Hellmuth last in the first match heads up to Tom Dwan. He is some high stakes online cash game badass, I think he plays under the name Durrrrrrrrr. Anyway, he beats Phils AA with 1010, and they had been talking some trash, then it got kinda nasty with Dwan talking shit to Hellmuth about how he never wins online and he will play Hellmuth anytime for any amount he wants heads up. I thought it as kinda jokingly, but it was really serious and you could tell Phil was fucking irate. 4/13/2008 11:41:02 PM |

Does anyone know where to find a good live game around here? I play on Sportsbook all the time but me and my buddies are headed out to Vegas this summer and one of us are playing in the WSOP so we want to get our live game better. The only live games we can find now are the tavenpoker.com and worldtavernpoker.com little tournaments that they play during the week but most of those players are horrible and donkey off their chips. If anyone knows of a real money live tournament and they don't mind 2 or 3 more players shoot me a PM. 4/14/2008 11:58:41 AM |

Whats the most buy ins you've had at a ring game compared to the max buy in.
I'm sitting at .05/.10PL w/ 45 bucks...4.5x the max buy in of 10, which is I think my best online, not live. 4/20/2008 8:03:34 PM |

One time I sat down at a $50 max table and a guy had like $800. He was insane, raising to $20 every hand and sucking out a bunch. I just waited him out and ended up taking $600 of it. Some other guy got the rest.
My biggest win was at a table game in Foxwoods where I bought in for $100 and cashed out like $900. I guess in terms of percentages the latter win is better, but in terms of straight cash the live game was the best. 4/20/2008 8:33:46 PM |

I played half a season of world tavern and got in the top 25...it's fun but there isn't much reward other than the fun. You basically have to play every single night two or three times a day to place in the top 10. There are some pretty bad players, but most of it is because they're inexperienced or are just playing because it's something to do. Most of the players are at least decent though. There are some very good players too, so it's a good mix of what you'd see in a "real" tournament. 4/21/2008 6:19:29 PM |

Yeah, me too. I was praying for either a 4c or the 9c. I figured they had both my bases covered - either he had a set and was waiting to pair the board or he was on a flush draw. Although I would've been pretty pissed off had he hit any other club considering how weak his hand was. 4/24/2008 11:02:32 AM |

It's not the absolute worst play I have seen but of course the guy is gonna be pissed that you hit an 11 outer (2h, 3h, 4h, 5h, 6h, 7h, 8h, 9h, 9d, 9s, 9c). With 8 cards already shown, that leaves 44 available so you were 11/44 or 25%.
I don't think it's really an equitable play in the long run because after he pushes, I can only put him on a range of the following hands: AA AK K-x AQ QQ Maybe (a big maybe) and underpair like JJ or even 77 A total bluff
Notice you can not beat any of these hands with the exception of a bluff, so when you click call you know you are a big dog, maybe even drawing to 2 outs for a straight flush. So for a pot of 2360 (200+200+400+1560) you have to call 1360, or about 60% of the total pot value with a 25% chance of winning. So, in retrospect, it looks like to me he made the right play with the push and you made a poor call but sucked out. 4/26/2008 9:33:19 PM |

^^^
I have been thinking about this hand off and on for the past day or so and I want to renig what I said before. I don't want to sound like a dick or a know-it-all, but the call you made is exactly why good players make money playing poker and exactly why bad players lose money. You only had a draw and you called a bet more than half the pot size and (probably even more importantly) you put like 80% of your starting chips at risk on absoluely nothing.
This is what is absolutely wrong with poker, is so many people do not understand the mathematics behind it. I have not done the math here, but I would guess that in the long run your play is approximately as bad as calling a preflop all-in with 72 off when you know your opponent has AA. The key thing behind EVERYTHING is that just because you have a straight draw, a flush draw, and overs, it does not mean it's a good idea to call. If you had pushed the river or something to that effect, then kudos. There is an absolute difference between going all-in on a draw and calling an all-in on a draw. I could go way into the numbers but one of the huge principles is fold equity, ie of the range of hands we had the guy on before, he will most likely only call with AA, K-x, or QQ, and before even if he was pushing with A10 on a huge bluff, you were still way behind, and now he would muck his A10.
So those are my thoughts. I will post this hand on 2+2 and see what others have to say. 4/27/2008 5:06:11 PM |

wtf was going on in that hand?
btw im doing the ferguson challenge but a little different. Ive had 5 people give me 5:1 that i cant turn $1 into $1000 in 6 months (well actually 5 months and 25 days). They have my login and password to keep it legit. I started 2 days ago and won about $15 in a .10 rebuy tournament and then about 40 in $2 sit n gos. and around $10 in the .5/,1 nl ring games. So im up to around $67. we'll see how that goes, but needless to say a lucky start.
I may decide to chart it if anyone cares 4/28/2008 1:52:24 PM |
