Can someone explain to me the extent in which a new iPhone 4S under contract is tied to the account it was purchased under?

-If I use an upgrade to purchase one at contract price and then pay the ETF, can the phone ever be activated again on another account?

-If I use an upgrade and decide I hate the phone after a month, can I give it to my brother who is on a different account, but same carrier?

-Can I jailbreak and generate a new ESN that would make the phone valuable to UK peeps or say metroPCS users?

FUCK, dropped my phone and the screen is all fucked up now. Not cracked or anything, but its either all gray bars where I cant see anything at all (90% of the time) or this weird negative image with the colors all reversed but otherwise normal (10%).

I was due for an upgrade from AT&T on Jan 23. so I was waiting until then to get the 4s... any chance they will let me go ahead and do that?

You should at least go and ask. AT&T store employees have usually been fairly sympathetic (in my experience) and can try and help you get around a few things (They helped us lower an errant phone bill from 1k to 200 after my wife started having to use her phones for a crazy amount of meetings and lost track of her minutes).

Apple store probably won't be able to help you, apparently they nixed the replacement program when the 4s came out.

I haven't heard anything about this either way, but if it's true, it's probably only temporary. Right now they don't have the massive stockpile of returned/refurbished phones they can hand out at a moment's notice. Give it a few months and I wouldn't be surprised if it was exactly like it used to be.

Brought my iPad in for service, a family member who works at the apple stores mentioned it. They used to have a 1-free-replacement policy as long as you aren't a jackass but killed it for ALL models (iphone and ipad) with the 4s.

It may have been an informal policy to begin with, I don't know the details.

yeah, I could have gotten a replacement for my 4 for $150... but I think I can wait out my 5 weeks in reverse colors until my upgrade to a 4s comes around. Going to go to AT&T tomorrow anyways and see if they will let me go ahead and do it now, doubt it though.

^ how much would it be for an early upgrade for you? if it's only 200 more, seems like you should just go ahead and upgrade. if you go to the apple online store and enter your information as if you were buying a phone, it'll give you your partial upgrade price (usually $399 for the 16gb)

I would want to get a 32gig, the early update price is $550. If I wait until Jan 23, its $300.

Plus, if I get the replacement 4 to hold me over for $175ish after taxes and can get like $150 for it then it would basically be a free rental for a month. But I dont know if I can get that much for it, I assume so.

hmmm, never tried this before because my 4 was too small memory wise... but how do you store songs on the actual phone (not cloud) and iCloud? like I want 20 gigs on the phone and the rest I will access via Match. Surely I dont have to go through each song or album on the phone and do it manually right? someone tell me I am fucking stupid and show me how to do this please.

ps - under itunes if you have the Match on it doesnt offer you any other options under the music tab like it does without match on (sync playlists, artists, etc.)

busted my screen today. Apparently Apple has changed their pricing and no longer replaces screens for $99. Now you have to buy a whole new phone for $169+. Luckilly Verizon never cancelled the insurance on my plan so I called them up. Deductible for eplacement phone after paying $8/mo for the last 11 months? $169.... Apparently they changed their price when the 4s came out as well and I can't find the info they sent me when I first got it.

It looks like replacement displays (screen + digitizer) are $150+. Anyone know of a place to get a good deal on one?

If you're talking about a change from like the 3GS -> 4, then yeah, maybe (I'm still not sure, but I wouldn't place money on it).
