^^I hope you're joking, cause if you believe that I feel sorry for you.

The hickory thing is more believable, but the other one....just no.

What do yall think about Haith, It looks like most think that he will most likely be the guy if Barnes says no.

I think the he a great recruiter, but i am not sold on him as a coach. I dont know if Haith can take us to a final four or championship. And i dont really know if its an improvement over Herb.

do your sources also know what the time table is for when he is going to accept the offer? also, if barnes comes here, whats the situation with his recruits for next year? do they like barnes enough to follow him to state?

I DON'T WANT FRANK HAITH!

What the fuck? We ran Herb off for Frank Fucking Haith.

He has no personality nor is he intense, which was a main gripe of Herb Haters.

I can't see why Haith would be our #2 guy. Personally, he shouldn't be in the top ten. Yeah, he's done some good stuff by Miami standards, but he would be a step down from Herb.

I'm hoping Barnes has turned us down so we can go pull in Tubby, and if not him, maybe Cal (even though he said he's not going anywhere) or Crean. If we don't get one of those four, I think we've made a big mistake.

If Haith is the new HC, Oblinger should send Fowler packing... No jokes, no kidding, no bullshit. I refuse to see our team take a huge step back.

Quote :
"Barnes has good reason to stay putBy Mike Jones
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
Terms of a new contract for Texas basketball coach Rick Barnes will be released within the next 24 to 48 hours, according to a Texas source who said the deal was almost done late Tuesday afternoon.

Barnes and athletic director DeLoss Dodds met Monday and had lunch Tuesday. Earlier, Dodds acknowledged that Barnes was due a raise over the normal $50,000 yearly bump. With a base of $1.3 million and a $200,000 bonus for making the Elite 8 and a few other incentives, Barnes will make more than $1.5 million this contract year.

That already puts him in the upper percentile of college coaches and the new raise should put him among the elite -- which should end speculation about him going home to become the new coach at North Carolina State.

Similar to the Steve Alford-back-to-Indiana scenario, that has long been popular speculation, the speculation of Barnes leaving reopened the past few days when underappreciated Herb Sendek bolted for Arizona State.

In private and public, Barnes acknowledges his affection for his home state of North Carolina. But he also reiterates how happy he is with what now is one of the best coaching jobs in the country.

Why would he trade this for that?

The state of Barnes' program, which has reached the Sweet 16 in five of the last six seasons, is again evident when looking at next year. If he loses LaMarcus Aldridge (probably) to the NBA and P.J. Tucker and Daniel Gibson (unwisely) follow, the Longhorns are still going to be pretty good and fun to watch.

And frankly, Barnes said again Tuesday, he's tired of talking about the N.C. State thing. He reiterated that no one has contacted him about the job and that he's not listing his house.

"It's not a big deal," Barnes said of the speculation. "It really isn't. I can't control what they are saying back there [in Carolina]. I can't.

"I love it here. I feel really good about the future."

Like the new contract, the showplace Cooley Pavilion practice facility stands testament to the lengths to which Texas has gone and will continue to go to keep Barnes happy.

And Barnes wants to continue to improve game atmosphere, among other things. Impressive Erwin Center upgrades have recently been made at Barnes' urging and are continuing.

"I'm excited about the improvements we've made, and more are coming, to continue to create the environment we want," he said.

The addition of student end-zone seating is a big success and Barnes would like to see more of that. Senior associate athletic director Chris Plonsky says work is continuing on perfecting a pilot program to re-circulate unused lower-level season tickets into the hands of those who will use them. There was visual progress there last season.

"This is all building nicely," Plonsky said. "And I would assume Rick shares those sentiments. As he always says, if you're not moving forward, you're moving backward, and we've got to continue to look at every single thing we do with regard to basketball.

"Rick has always said this is the best college job he could ever want, but you never take a guy like him for granted. Just like we did with Mack Brown [contract-wise] when we qualified for the Rose Bowl. ... [this latest contract is] letting [Barnes] know that we love him and we want him long term. And that we're always listening."

Quote :
"As speculation grew on Tuesday regarding possible contact between representatives of N.C. State and Texas coach Rick Barnes in NCSU’s ongoing search for a new basketball coach, a pecking order of candidates began to sort out.
Miami coach Frank Haith is clearly on N.C. State’s short list of preferred coaches, but he apparently follows Memphis’ John Calipari and Villanova’s Jay Wright.
There are issues, however, concerning both coaches.
Calipari, 46, has an excellent track record. He built Massachusetts from a virtual unknown into a Final Four team in eight years before leaving in 1996 to the NBA. He left behind a mess at UMass, resulting in the program forfeiting that regional championship.
In his six seasons at Memphis, rumors have surfaced of potentially similar problems. Sources close to N.C. State say athletic director Lee Fowler is “highly concerned” about Calipari’s reputation, especially considering former coach Herb Sendek ran one of the cleanest programs in the nation and was a reason some prominent Wolfpack boosters tried talking Sendek into remaining at State.
“He’s (Calipari) said before that he’s not looking but might listen, depending,” Memphis assistant media relations director Lamar Chance said Tuesday evening. “But he’s also said as long as the administration here at Memphis is committed he’s not going to look at any other jobs.”
Wright, 44, is 104-59 in five seasons at Villanova. He has a terrific reputation, but recently signed a 10-year extension to remain at the Philadelphia university, and a buyout could be too expensive for N.C. State, even if Wright was willing to make the surprising jump to Raleigh.
Wright has stated several times in public recently he’s content coaching at Villanova.
“He’s very happy at Villanova, proud to be here and glad to stay put,” Villanova assistant media relations director Mike Sheridan said Tuesday.
Speculation abounded late Tuesday afternoon there had been contact between N.C. State and people representing Kentucky’s Tubby Smith and LSU’s John Brady. Sources couldn’t confirm the talks, but the rumors were pretty rampant that Smith, in particular, was sending out feelers.
Kentucky’s director of media relations, Scott Stricklin, said Tuesday nobody representing N.C. State had requested to speak with Smith. He said seeing Smith’s name linked with other jobs is a common occurrence each season, but Smith intends on staying put.
“There’s no indication from Coach Smith he’s interested,” Stricklin said Tuesday evening.
Before Calipari, Smith, Wright, Haith or any other coach enters into discussions with N.C. State, Barnes must first make clear he’s remaining at Texas, and as of Tuesday night, he hadn’t yet done so.
Sources close to N.C. State said representatives were supposed to fly to Austin, Texas, on Tuesday to meet with Barnes, but no trip or meeting was confirmed by the time the Star-News went to print Tuesday night. According to several reports, notably on WRAL television in Raleigh, N.C. State was prepared to offer Barnes $2 million a year.
The belief is the longer State continues pursuing Barnes the likelihood he takes over the Wolfpack increases because a definitive “No” is the only thing that will force NCSU to pursue its next candidate.
Barnes’ personal struggle, however, could be more at the root of the reported three days since the initial waves were first sent from Raleigh. This appears to be a literal internal tug of war.
“I can tell you this, he talks about building an ACC culture here, and he often expresses how tough that is,” a source very close to Barnes in Texas said.
“The man has the ACC in his blood. But, he’s got a lifetime job here, and that’s something nobody else can match.”"

(1)There have been plenty of articles written that say how barnes is disappointed with the fan support for hoops in Austin

(2) to mention their new facilities, and ignore that NCSU also has new facilities is an error, it is stated in this article as if it is something that Texas has "over" us.....not true

(3)Aldridge is already gone, so this article was not written today, just put out today

(4)as has been said, same old bullshit...blah, blah, blah we love him, blah, blah blah he loves us, blah blah blah, why would he want to leave Texas.....Not sure we will ever get Barnes, but this article not expressing our realistic chance to get him in my opinion!

I'm sure this has been posted SOMEWHERE on this board among all the GD threads on this.. But Calipari was on BDSS last night and was asked by that no talent ass clown Chris Rose if he was going to NC State, Calipari said nope. I'm staying at Memphis.

Basically all these big name coaches are going to publically deny any talks or anything that would make it look possible that they would leave and come here. Just because they say they're as happy as can be where there are doesn't mean anything. To me it looks like Barnes could be using this to increase his raise, and we are just waiting to see what Texas is going to offer him and then make a larger offer. Basically everything Barnes has at Taxas he could have here too (money, facilities, recruits, etc). Except we would actually fill our stadium on a regular basis, fan support would be much greater.

my source says we all but have Barnes locked up. Texas is pulling their last effort to keep him with this raise, but he's as good as gone to NC State. I am told Barnes will sign the contract and announce tonight. As someone stated earlier...we didnt even contact him, he contacted us through a middle man. 2 Mil is the number I got as well. This source would know.... he said he got this from "pretty deep in the department"

I am putting my reputation on the line here guys....if i am wrong may my posts forever and ever hold ZERO weight. "

if corch's son is right about barnes' wife wanting to be in NC, then i feel REALLY good because i've heard from reliable people that it may come down to a decision by barnes' wife.

i also heard a signing bonus provided by a couple of our big donors will sweeten the pot a bit more.
