LOL at Drew Carter tearing another ACL. He's a good example of why most track stars should stick to running in circles and shit.

I'm starting to look at the Panthers as a dark-horse team this year. The big question mark to me will be the play of the defensive line. I'm guessing Ladainian Tomlinson runs wild in week 1. 150+ yards right up the middle. If they can keep him to less than 100, it could bode well for the rest of the season.

Section 344, row 17, seat 1. Jon actually came to talk to us and sat in some guy's seat and the guy was a total dick to him when he came back from the concession stand. When he left I flipped my program to his picture and showed it to the guy and his facial expression was priceless.

we had on field passes but I couldn't leave raleigh until 3:30ish and I had to meet up with people on Providence Rd at about 6:30 so we didn't have time.

Here's a pic I took after the game from our parking spot. It was definitely a great precursor to this weeks So. Carolina game. I wore my state shirt and got so many jeers from gamecock fans.

Reqatching the game again today.... just realized that Terrance Holt is a starting DB!

Yet another reason to love what this year's panthers team is looking like....

Quote :
"The Panthers have signed veteran WR Samie Parker, who was released by Denver on Monday.

Parker, 27, adds speed and experience to a wide receiver position that has been thinned by injuries and Steve Smith's suspension for the first two games.

Parker, a former track sprinter at Oregon, caught 110 passes for 1,529 yards and seven touchdowns in four seasons with Kansas City.

He signed with Denver in the offseason, but didn't fit into the Broncos' West Coast offense, and was released Monday.

Because he's a vested veteran, he didn't have to go through the waiver system and was available immediately.

The Panthers hope he'll be a better fit in their scheme. Coach John Fox said he could also get a look as a kick returner.

To make room for Parker on the roster, the Panthers released WR Sean Bailey, formerly of Georgia.

Parker might get some playing time in Thursday's exhibition finale at Pittsburgh. The Panthers hope to have him on the regular-season roster for the opening game Sept. 7 at San Diego.

Against the Chargers, the Panthers expect to be without three of the top six receivers from training camp. Smith will be serving the first of a two-game suspension for punching teammate Ken Lucas. Ryne Robinson is unlikely to be back for the opener as he recovers from a knee injury. Jason Carter was placed on injured reserve this week after tearing his ACL against the Redskins last Saturday. Also, the Panthers are still waiting on veteran D.J. Hackett to return from a toe injury."

With all the talk of WR's and who's going to step up, why isn't anyone calling for Travis Taylor? He's not terribly old, and has played decently for other teams in the past. Everytime he catches a ball this preseason, I find myself thinking "damn, when did we get Travis Taylor?"

Samie Parker isn't a bad move, but it seems with Taylor going through a whole preseason, he'd be counted on to step up and fill the void. Yet everytime I read something, it's "the Panthers will have to count solely on Jarrett and Muhammad."

^^I think a few days ago. We didn't cut anyone of note really -- I kind of wanted Casper Brinkly to make the team, but he's gone. Or is it Jasper? I don't know. The big cut will come after the final preseason game (obviously).

Any guesses on which RB cuts the boot? I'm thinking Toefield ... poor guy.

^Definitely Toefield... he doesent have enough burst or vision. We have confidence in J Stew as a power-back already...

We need to make a spot for Rhys Lloyd somehow....

Lloyd is a difference maker who needs to be on this team. How many more years does Kasay have left in the tank anyway?

Oh I want to keep them both, just saying that Lloyd is a freaking kickoff machine. I have not seen the Golden Boot decline at all, but maybe his age gives the team an excuse to keep Lloyd on as well.

But, the Panthers never do shit like this with the cuts. They always cut the guys I want to see on the team... Rod Rutherford, Efrem 'the retarded rabbit' Hill, there are more.

special teams hurt us last year, i'd love to see us keep both kickers because when you know theres a 90%+ chance that the opponent starts at or inside the 20, it really helps...what i REALLY wish was that we could see Lloyd attempt some field goals in preseason to see if he's ready for that role yet...he says he wants to kick field goals, but i guess he's not that great at them yet?

Ricky Manning Jr just got cut by the Bears. I wonder if the Panthers will bring him back to improve CB depth.

We've got loads of depth at CB.

Speaking of players that shouldn't have been cut, DT Tony Brown is turning into a machine in Tennessee.

Lloyd has hit a 56 yarder in a game, and a 70 in practice. He may not have the acuracy, but I have no basis for that. Face it, if Vinatieri offered to come to Carolina for 1 dollar a year to kick FGs, Kasay would still be our kicker.

^^the Panthers definitely like being loyal to their veterans, but the fact that we might keep both Kasay and Lloyd shows me that they're at least aware that Kasay is getting old...Kasay hit a 52 yarder in the Skins game though, he's still got a leg on him, for FGs at least

^I think we've got 3 great CBs, and when the D-Line is actually getting pressure, that makes them even better

"On April 23, 2006 Ricky Manning, Jr. attacked a man, Soroush Sabzi [7], in a Denny's restaurant after teasing him for working on a laptop computer.[8] He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly fighting a man and eventually pled no contest to felony assault. Manning faced up to four years in prison because of a previous assault charge in 2002, for which he received probation.

According to the police report, Manning and former UCLA teammates, Tyler Ebell and Maurice Jones-Drew bullied a student sitting at another table. Manning confronted the student with "Are you a faggot?", "You f---ing Jew," and then called him "an ugly f---ing Jew" and a "faggot." The student asked to be left alone and the football players beat him unconscious. [9]"

Manning had an ok year in 06, and did nothing special last year. Not to mention with the stricter enforcement of pass interference, Manning is definitely hindered by that. He isnt a burner by any means.

^^I realize that, but you gotta take into account injury. Chris Gamble is coming off an injury, and Ken Lucas hasn't been that durable either.

Coclough (sp?) is having a good preseason, and can easily slide into a nickel CB spot if one of the other three go down.

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-2-388/Broncos-news-and-notes.html

"There is chatter that free agent pickup Keary Colbert is on the bubble to make the 53-man roster Saturday. Colbert hasn't been great in the preseason and in training camp. Yet, he was signed to be the No. 2 receiver in the spring. Yet, several weeks later, Denver drafted Eddie Royal from Virginia Tech in the second round and Royal has burst onto the scene. He is now the No. 2 receiver. Veteran Brandon Stokley is entrenched as the No. 3 receiver and Darrell Jackson is the No. 4 receiver. Glenn Martinez has a chance to stick as a returner. The team drafted Royal to be a return man as a rookie but with him now the No. 2 receiver, Martinez may be needed. So, yes, it seems Colbert could be fighting for a roster spot."

yeah they were talking about that on the radio today...basically somebody said how good can Parker be if the Broncos cut him and kept Keary Colbert, but then somebody said Colbert might be cut too...I don't really want him back, although I wouldn't completely mind him as a 5th receiver or something, especially with Smitty out the 1st 2 weeks and Hackett still dinged up

Alrighty, I'm going to quit dwelling in the sea of NC State disappointment.

Moore didn't look awful last night, but certainly didn't look good. I don't think he's improved any from last year, but still seems to be an ok back up.

I thought Basenez looked good. He doesn't have a strong arm, but knows how to drop balls where they need to be. He's got something about him ... just a presence. I feel more comfortable with him under center than Moore for some reason.

And a parting note: I hated the Stewart pick when we made it. I wanted Mendenhall. Thanks Panthers' front office for not being as dumb as me.

I like that a lot for insurance...I distinctly remember a game when we played the Cardinals a few seasons ago...granted they have Fitzgerald and Boldin but he threw for like 400 yards and looked better than Jake that game...and I'm a Jake fan...I never ever remember David Carr standing out like that when I saw Houston play

here we go

Quote :
"He actually played one of his better statistical games in a loss to the Panthers in 2005. He threw for 398 yards and two touchdowns that day, with 274 yards and both touchdowns in the first half. That was a game cornerback Chris Gamble started on a bad ankle, and Ken Lucas asked coach John Fox at halftime to cover Larry Fitzgerald, shutting him down in the second half."

no scores in the second half, but you cant really downplay 398 passing yards in the NFL
