well congrats to the red wings, i have to admit they were the better team. i hate that a couple of weak goals (that fleury let in) in the final game seemed to play a deciding factor. especially after fleury played so well in game 5. still, it was an exciting series to watch!

I'm just glad I wasn't watching the away team hoist the Stanley Cup at the end of the 2005-2006 season

i still think it was goalie interference on the goal

he knocked the goalie down on his ass after the shot and he sat on the puck and knocked it in

also, fuck the red wings

yes

DETROIT — The PGA Championship at Oakland Hills, Mich., is two months away, but Tiger Woods took the first unofficial shot of the tournament Monday when he teed off on Hockeytown.

During a news conference at Oakland Hills Country Club, where Woods appeared via satellite, the two-time defending champion was asked whether he was rooting for the Red Wings or the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals Monday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Woods chuckled at the question. Then he let 'er rip. "I don't really care," he said with an impish smile. "It's all about the Dodgers. I don't think anyone really watches hockey anymore."

Order has been restored in the NHL. For all the talk about the Old NHL vs the New NHL, the Old beat the New at its own game. The salary cap, thought to be a deterrent, worked out in Hockeytown's favor. Get used to it, Wings bashers. HOCKEYTOWN IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^I think he means that we won the cup WITH a salary cap... the other 3 recent ones, well mostly the 2002 team was paid for with the talent they had brought in.

the Joe will never sell more seats, economy is too shitty and tickets are too much

"Numbers for live sports are always subject to revision in the nationals, but the game's 3.0 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and 7 million viewers overall from 8 to 11 p.m. would make it the best scores for any hockey game since Game 7 of the Cup Final between New Jersey and Anaheim in 2003.

The 7 million viewers would also be a larger audience than all but one NBA playoff game this spring leading into the finals. "

Throw in 4 million people watching in Canada and you've got 11 million people watching, so can we just stop talking about NHL ratings now?

While we're on the topic, though, what is going on in Richmond? They were one of the top markets for the Winter Classic, and #6 last night.

1. Pittsburgh, 37.4/51
2. Detroit, 30.6/45
3. Buffalo, 10.9/16
4. Denver, 6.6/11
5. St. Louis, 5.7/9
6. Richmond, 5.6/9
T7. Philadelphia, 5.5/9
T7. Columbus, 5.5/9
T9. Minneapolis, 5.1/10
T9. Fort Myers, 5.1/10

Why???

"The head of CBC-TV Sports says the broadcaster is working with a deadline of tomorrow at 5 p.m. to reach an agreement over the Hockey Night in Canada theme, but that the CBC already has a plan to develop a replacement to the famous jingle.
Scott Moore says the public broadcaster is prepared to dump the song over a lapsed licensing agreement and open up a national contest in which Canadians will be invited to make submissions for a replacement.

“If we can’t make a deal, we can’t go much past where we are now because we have to come up with a new theme,” Moore said. “And that’s why we’re prepared for a new plan.”

That new plan would involve working with Nettwerk Records in Vancouver, a label that represents artists such as Avril Lavigne and The Barenaked Ladies.
"

they should just use the coach's corner theme for the entire broadcast

and have coach's corner at both intermissions

and before and after the game

"DETROIT (AP) - The Stanley Cup is OK after taking a tumble during the Red Wings' celebrations in Detroit.

NHL spokeswoman Bernadette Mansur says Saturday the Cup got a slight dent Friday after some players took the trophy to Cheli's Chili Bar, a downtown restaurant owned by Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios.

Mansur says dent was smoothed out, and the trophy was expected to keep making the rounds.

Thousands of Red Wings fans cheered Friday during a parade and rally in downtown Detroit where the Cup was shown off. The Red Wings clinched the Cup on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh."
