I see that you've entirely misunderstood what makes Lost a better-than-average TV show and you're just working under your own incorrect assumptions.
The writers have done a pretty good job explaining how all this is working. I'm sorry that you can't seem to understand it.
It's not like they're just bringing back characters all willy-nilly. They've brought back one, and for good reason.
Locke dying and being reincarnated is tied (in some as of yet unexplained way) to the folks from 815 crashing in the first place. It can be assumed that Christian played the role of Locke previously. Richard told Locke that he had to die because he knew that Locke would be reincarnated upon returning.
Locke is a pretty important guy, of course the island brought him back. He was supposed to be brought back. It's not like the writer just stuck that in there at the last minute.

Ben goes to great lengths to deceive, manipulate, cheat, and kill people to remain on the island. Locke goes to great lengths to nuture, help, save, and protect people to remain on the island. Ben kills Locke. Locke is reborn. Is there something significant about this relationship? Does Ben have to be the fallen angel and Locke the Angel in order for them both to remain on the island? Must there be good and evil at all times, and without both present, both perish? Who the fuck is Jacob?

exactly.
if it was lockes identical twin brother who used to be married to kate, then we'd have a problem but they do their moves in a cohesive and precise manner. some appreciate it, some don't.
also this most certainly IS a lost friends circle jerk. notice the fact that its a 21 page thread that has evolved over a duration of 7 weeks and is composed of fewer people than you have digits on your hands.*

i've said multiple times i'm close to conceding on the bet
but there is still a part of me that hopes there is still some chance, some random odd chance, that locke stabbing a dude isn't just "WHAT HAPPENED ALWAYS HAPPENED"
i think we'll get a lot more answers about things in next weeks two-episode extravaganza, perhaps i'll full concede then
i'm trying to figure out which you want more, the $20 or the pride of having BESTED TEH WOOTF00T

Actually I said
Quote : | "Wait, who said Charlotte and her mom were with the DI?" |
BIG DIFFERENCE
My point was that she never said she and her mom were DI. She just said DI was on the island when she was there. I won't believe that Charlotte was the red-headed little girl Faraday saw at the barracks until I see a birth certificate.

i wasn't calling you a dick
i'm just saying i still think the mythology of the show is flexible enough
especially considering we don't know what farraday's been doing the last 3 years and we know he has a run-in with charlotte at some point
i really really really love ernie's question about which team charlotte played for on the island and if he's at the arrow (as someone in the thread suggested) he might have definitely had an opportunity to interact with the Others (as the arrow station was designed for research into the Others) 3/11/2009 3:31:17 PM |

From the transcript
Quote : | "CHARLOTTE: I grew up here...on the island. And there was this thing...this... Dharma Initiative. And then...I moved away with my mum. Just my mum...and...I never saw my dad again. And then when I got back to England, I would...I would...ask my mum about this place, yeah? But she would say that it wasn’t real...and that I’d made it up. That’s why... I became an anthropologist. To find this island again. It’s what...I’ve been searching for my whole life." |

i could have sworn someone in the thread asked where farraday was, and someone else said he's probably at the arrow station (maybe it was on twitter, I do a lot of #LOST talk over there too)
but the arrow was the station where they worked on intelligence and defense strategies against the "Hostiles"
so, if charlotte is on the island as an OG "other", and farraday is working at the only station dedicated to the "Others", that would give a probably explanation as to how he could have met Charlotte if she isn't part of the DI
man, my level of willingness to concede just dipped dramatically
and please remember: the line "i can't remember my mother's maiden name" was the first reason i made the whole "dead grandfather" assertion 3/11/2009 3:50:13 PM |
IRSeriousCat All American 6092 Posts user info edit post |
she couldn't remember because her brain was dramatically traumatized, that is all. they have been adamant about what has happens has always happened. sawyer and juliette have always killed those two people which is why that lady has always had horaces child which is why he was building a cabin for three.
i mean i can understand the willingness to look into every possible avenue and you have every right to, but the simple fact of the matter is if she is never born because her grandfather or father was killed then she very well can't be on the island to speak with farraday. if she is on the island at this point in time, whether it be as an other or as a DI child, then she exists. 3/11/2009 3:54:10 PM |

there is a lot about charlotte and daniel we may never know
hell i'm still interested as hell at what was going on when they were playing 3 Card Monte or whatever memory thing they were working on...
but they could have chosen ANY random fact if they wanted to show her memory/brain damage
"i can't remember my social security number" "i can't remember what bank i use" "i can't remember what my favorite color is"
but to say "i can't remember my mother's maiden name" is going to be a red flag (or i suppose a red herring)

You're not necessarily supposed to care about Locke dying. Like you said, you already know he's coming back. You're supposed to wonder why Ben talked him out of killing himself but as soon as Locke mentioned Farraday's mother, he did a 180 and went ahead and killed Locke himself.

The only basis I have for that is his agelessness. Like I said, maybe his aging is paused until he catches back up with his own time.
We also don't have any evidence that suggests he's some sort of deity, which is what most everyone else seems to think. The fact that he followed up Locke's suggestion to witness his birth (and subsequently believed that Locke was a profit or something) and that he allowed Ben to ran shit sort of implies that he really doesn't know what the fuck is going on.
His seemingly being clueless about the workings of the island could also hint that he's from the future. Someone that's been on the island for thousands of years would have maybe figured out a few things.
Or maybe he's just playing dumb, who knows.3/11/2009 7:16:37 PM |

I do think its interesting that certain Losties who died on island have come back from the dead in the form of visions (AnaLucia, Charlie) while others have not (Sharon). But then again, the island shows visions of people/things who have not died there (Hurley's mental institute buddy, Kate's Horse).
I think when we find out about the Egyptian connection and the origination of the island, the source of these crazy powers will be revealed. 3/11/2009 8:47:07 PM |
Big Business Suspended 9099 Posts user info edit post |
i don't think the egyption part has to do with the powers of the island.
personally i think that the island has always had powers and that an ancient culture happened to arrive upon it. maybe they were the first to realize how to use/control the powers of the island and their knowledge was passed down through the others or something.

i guess, from what you said, they did the pop up video thing for this replay of last weeks episode, but i'm guessing most people in this thread didn't bother watching this week since they knew it wasn't new, so if they did confirm that the was Charlotte, you may have been the only one to see it. 3/11/2009 10:14:33 PM |

perhaps I should have clarified my point from earlier...
the Egyptian statue (which probably has only four toes) is Anubis - god of the dead. Anubis acts as escort for the dearly departed on their way to the afterlife. Kinda explains one of charlotte's last statements: "this place is death".
Then there was the Ankh that Paul wore and Amy still hangs onto. Ankhs are the symbol for eternal life to Egyptians - and the Anubis statue is grasping two very large ones. Who is Paul and what is his Egyptian connection?

i'm not certain if it is or not, but nothing points in one direction or the other. I also missed this weeks recap.
regardless, it doesn't change the fact that the show has cemented everything that will happen has happened and that charlotte existing on the island at a point where farraday could speak with her means that her grandfather or father was not killed before she was born causing her to erase from the pages of time. 3/12/2009 12:55:49 PM |
