"It kind of sounds like the Police had a kid with Meshell Ndegeocello, and the afterbirth was a Moog synthesizer and a Peavy amp."

Fuck you drop-out, hipster idiots and your conceptualized, bullshit, music review garbage. I'll bet not one of you have any sort of music background to speak of. I tried to read one of these articles the other day in the Independent...I'd rather read an ingredient label, because it all runs together the same. Apparently there's no shortage of liberal arts major morons with plaid shirts, beards and a fixie who can't fathom how to either get somebody interested in music without going way overboard on the inane comparisons, or dissing some act to the point of abstract nonsense. This shit is so laughable...

I'm not sure what you're referring to, but yeah, that quote makes little to negative sense. Hipsters love referencing moogs, though. And if any of the Police actually participated in that mating, I really really hope it was Stewart Copeland. Who is that about, anyway?

^^ Are you talking about the Indy reviewers, or the people in this thread?

Because I can name plenty of people who fall into each category, have musical backgrounds, and don't ride fixies.

I'm digging the new The Chemical Brothers album. Hard to believe they are able to keep a unique sound after all these years.

An old friend of mine from Raleigh's new solo project. His band (Harvard) has been doing really well the past few years but he is putting out a new solo album and it is pretty good. I don't know how to describe it really but some people here might enjoy it. Free digital download and album stream here:

"Just out of curiosity, anything in particular (or any other particular reviews) that you hated? I'm open to criticism."

I've only been to the site to read the Love Language review, but I'll tell you what I didn't and did like.

That review was just awful, it really was. There were no descriptors and it was too conversational and casual. (actually, I like some conversational reviews, when they actually contain something substantive, which this one obviously didn't).

I have reviewed albums before, and I know how difficult it can be.... I also know how much editors love to bring the snarky.... but at least give some track breakdowns of what you did and did not like. It was way too general, as if it was written after one casual listen. (ie. replacing tambourines with strings comment --- that's just fucking retarded, and obviously lifted from 1 or 2 songs that this person honed in on after a cursory listen).

There was no review of the record, there was no analysis of what the tracks were like, there was one paragraph saying, "I'm not biased", and then a handful of others tossing out over-generalizations about the record and trying to cram in as many snarky comments as possible with a random reference to an internet meme that made absolutely no fucking sense.

I do like the formatting on the first page, where you can click on the artwork to see the review, but they still need to be labeled with text if possible. Your audience will be people who want to read a review of a record they're thinking about buying..... they're not always going to arrive at the website knowing what the album art looks like.

i loved that new tame impala so much i went out and got their EP from 2008... "half full glass of wine" has been on repeat all day

i don't think i've dug something so much since i found out about king khan and his various projects

i wish more of these garage/blues rooted 2 man bands out there would get a bass player

i think most Roots albums are pretty dull and this new one is no exception

Pitchfork made it sound like they recorded a new track with Joanna Newsom in the studio, but the song she's on is just a loop of the hook from "Book of Right On"

late on this, but i, too, am going to the new pornos next friday. got free tix. was excited about the dodos, but i saw them at bonnaroo and they were really bad, so now i dunno. i think it was just an instance of them not being the right band for bonnaroo, though. will still definitely get there early enough to catch them. also, i saw the dutchess and the duke open for fleet foxes at 506 about a year and a half or two years ago, and they were not very good, either.

and damn that arcade fire and spoon show will be awesome, but i've heard from different people that mpp is just a terrible venue...supposedly the sound is even worse than koka booth.

EDIT: just went to Merriweather's website to see how much tickets would be after service charges and fees and shit, got excited when I saw that it wasn't Ticketmaster (it was TicketFly or something like that), and then found out the total extra charges were $18 for 2 tickets. Holy fuck. Want to see Arcade Fire, do not want to pay $115 to see Arcade Fire at a not-so-great venue. They did have $32 tickets for the lawn, but if the sound is really that bad there, you probably don't want to be stuck on the lawn. They'll probably win, though, I'll probably end up going.

Lawn tickets + traffic at a radiohead show at mpp some years ago was one of the worst concert experiences I've ever had the misfortune for paying for.

since then, I have seen some other (seated) shows at mpp that were just fine

At least it ain't the jiffy lube (formerly nissain) venue

^ I was at that Radiohead show, too.

I thought the sound was comparable to Walnut Creek, and the traffic was definitely miserable. It was a complete clusterfuck coming out and coming in.

That being said, anyone who was at the Bull Run Radiohead show (cancelled b/c of huge storms only 15 minutes before Beta Band took the stage to open up while the venue was at least 3/4's full and then 2 hours to get out of the parking lot) was thrilled by the time they were able to see the MPP show 2+ years later.

I know we don't have a lot of metal fans in this thread but I'm pumped so I'm posting regardless haha. Every review I have gotten to see for new our album so far has been absolutely awesome. I've gotten to read 3 at this point (only 1 of which has been published so far, but we got to read some early to use as press blurbs) and out of those we got a 4.5/5, 9/10, and an 8.5/10

Quote :
"Peril And The Patient has without a doubt made my list of favorite albums. If you’re looking for exciting, relentless, diverse, and powerful metal then look no further. Called To Arms dishes out a stellar helping of awesome by fusing together a plethora of heavy metal sub-genres, all the while keeping a varied, original and interesting sound. Do the band a favor and buy the album, this underrated act deserves it."

I really want to start streaming some stuff but we are waiting on the label's ok with timing and blah blah blah.
