I've been doing the Max-OT program since Monday.... It's 5 days a week of heavy lifting plus I try to throw in some cardio every couple days. Tomorrow will be my first 5th day and I'm pretty sore. I hope I can stick with it... I feel like I can see a difference, but its probably just muscle pump and not really permanent.

^^Dorian Yates was one of the biggest proponents of Max-OT style training, and he was plagued throughout his career with injury after injury. I'm not saying you can't train safely with Max-OT, but be careful and listen to your body.

Played pickup soccer in the pouring rain for 2 hours.... aside from my toes bleeding when I took my cleats off, it was great; first time I've played in legit a year.

Had a late-night chips and salsa binge around 10:30 pm yesterday. Whew. Definitely not the best day for a weigh-in and pics, considering the massive amounts of sodium consumed. Regardless, it's that time again.

Weight: 131 (up 3 pounds since the beginning of the contest) ... but my pants feel looser, so that's good.

Rest is very important, your body does all the growing while you're not lifting / tearing it down.

A day or two off the wagon can be repaired, get back in there

Nice work, everyone

Finally started getting my fat ass back into the gym over the last couple of weeks. Even got into the gym everyday while I was on the road this week. I had gotten into a bad habit of telling myself "I don't have time today".

Monday-Gym
Tuesday-Rugby practice
Wednesday-Gym
Thursday-Rugby practice
Friday-Gym

Starting out at:

5'9"
190 lbs

that is not bad. i think i am doing that distance in about 36 minutes. and i am not exceptionally fast. 33 minutes would be where i want to be.

can i enter this late?

i don't want to be part of the challenge i just want to have somewhere to post my shit to make me more accountable. so i don't think it matters if i'm late cause i'm not competing. ok, i just made the exec decision - i am starting this now. don't fret my pets i won't compete for the prize (whatever that is) since i'm breaking the rules PLUS seriously i wouldn't win anyway. ok. here we go.

so i finally worked up the courage to post my pics in this thread

NOT a bathing suit - i'm not that courageous (another rule broken, sorry God). but running tights and a sports bra so you can see the girth of my thighs lol and the grossness that is my stomach and back (never had back fat in my life, ewwww it is so gross)

do i have to post my weight too?

ok i'm 5ft 2

i'm back up to 138 (gross)

and my exercise routine is not very routine yet. i was running 4x a week and doing XT 3x a week but then my shins got all swollen and i quit doing anything like a dumbass. so its starting again tomorrow w/ a 5mi run.

diet - don't have one. i just try to eat healthy when i can but my fridge is broken right now which is making it difficult - should be fixed next week though so i can buy fresh veggies again. i'm a snacker not a meal eater sooo i love having things to snack on. i WILL snack on veggies though so that is a plus. and i also like to snack on lightly salted air popped popcorn which has like 15 calories a cup and lots of fiber and stuff (no butter. ok sometimes i put butter but not a lot only when i'm feeling fatty). i also like oatmeal and shit so when i say snacker i don't mean i sit there and veg out with a tub of icecream.

ok now for the pictures (ignore my vomiting bureau in the background). dun dun dun

GOAL: my goals are lame but i want to (1) finish the 1/2 marathon i'm running in sept. (2) fit back into my size 25 and 26 jeans. (3) to tone up my arms and (4) not get out of shape again

if i HAD to pick an ideal number on the scale it'd be 120 BUT i don't really care what the number is as long as i'm in shape and can fit back into my jeans. because i realize if i am gaining muscle the # might not fall as much as i'd like in my head.

OK THAT IS IT. THANKS BAIII. i'll post not weekly pictures but maybe in like 2 weeks i'll post one and see if there's a difference. but i'll at least post my routine in here.

TOM: 5 mi run, and 45 minutes with my exercise ball

welcome!!! i would recommend taking your measurements so you can know if there is a difference, even if you dont see one on the scale

and ive found that it really helps me stay on track to count my calories on fitdat.com (others on here use livestrong). it puts a reality check on the foods i've been eating & just helps me right size it. i havent changed my eating habits drastically, im just eating less of what i was already enjoying for the most part

hopefully your shins get better. for me, i went from 141 to 126 while i was training for my half marathon so its definitely possible!! good luck

and i'd think if your shins are hurting you can still do the cross training & if 1/2 marathon time comes and your shins aren't better, you could just speed walk it, worst case- right? you just need to build up to being able to exert yourself for several hours without a long break.

thanks

great advice - i def need to do the measurement thing. that is what i think - if for some reason my shins keep being annoying i'll just try to build up endurance biking and swimming, etc and then run and just walk at a fast pace when i need to during the actual race.

but if they get swollen and bruised again tom i AM going to the doctor cause i would like to remedy it if possible

and holy crap you lost a lot of weight while training! my main motivator is fitting back into my jeans. i LOVE designer jeans (some people love purses, shoes - i love jeans). and i refuse (nor can i afford) to buy bigger ones. kind of a vain goal i guess but...its something to work for!

and this:
Quote :
"i havent changed my eating habits drastically, im just eating less of what i was already enjoying for the most part"

i think will be me cause i LOVE salads and veggies so its not like i'm going to have to force myself to change my habits. i just need to not pig out as much. or add a shitload of cheese to my salads, etc AND late night snacking. i need to cut that out.

@khcadwal, a few comments and suggestions:

Quote :
"PLUS seriously i wouldn't win anyway."

Not with that attitude. You need to start believing in yourself or you'll stay displeased forever. Who says you can't get a rockin' beach body? Not me. I believe you can do it. Do you?

Quote :
"i was running 4x a week and doing XT 3x a week but then my shins got all swollen and i quit doing anything like a dumbass. so its starting again tomorrow w/ a 5mi run."

You may want to start even slower than that. If you feel any pain when you begin to jog, slow to a walk or stop. Injuries can last a life time if you don't let them properly heal. I know this personally.

Quote :
"lightly salted air popped popcorn which has like 15 calories a cup and lots of fiber and stuff"

It's really just empty calories, but it's not that bad.

Quote :
"(1) finish the 1/2 marathon i'm running in sept."

If you can do this, you will most likely meet all of your other goals with respect to your body image.

Quote :
"(3) to tone up my arms and"

Don't get into this common trap. "Toning" is a misnomer. You want to increase the muscle in your arms and decrease the amount of fat in your arms. However, spot reduction is not a reality. What you should do is, in addition to your running, do an arm weight routine 1 or 2 times a week with heavy weights. Many people can give you advice on this here.

Quote :
"(4) not get out of shape again"

People only get into this trap when they lose confidence in themselves. Right now you don't believe you can do it, and that's the first thing that has to change. Since running is what you're doing, I'm going to tell you this: Running is 10% physical ability and 90% mental ability. Most people don't realize that they can run a lot farther and harder than they are. They give up once they get tired. They don't ever push themselves, and they never get any results. That is going to be the biggest barrier for you to cross. Once you overcome that and build your mental strength, you will see big gains in running.

Good luck.

My best attempt at self photography[/fail].

I am finally starting to get a little more definition in my abs. By next years Beach Body Challenge I might actually be close to my goal.

I have been running 2-3 times a week now, which I never did before. Still circuit training about 3-4 times a week and doing some fairly light lifting about twice a week. Diet is still my Achille's heel.

Not arms--upper body. I wouldn't specifically target arms at all. If you do chest, back, shoulders, the arms will mostly take care of themselves.

I would suggest doing some serious leg exercises like weighted lunges and squats holding dumbbells. A lot of the "bad" pain that accompanies running is caused by weak stabilizer muscles in the legs... Running may eventually strengthen those, but not nearly fast enough to prevent injury. Anyway, that's what my doctor told me...

I used to get really sore (bad kind of sore) tendons in my legs after running, but once I strengthened my legs through squats, etc. it all went away and I can run much longer distances now.

yay i'm happy to see new entries!

i'm in manteo right now with cody's mom, this is gonna be a test of how well i can control myself and but not freak out with it

like last night-cody's mom and i split a bottle of red wine and i ate a few cheese and crackers. before that cody and i sat in his driveway waiting for her to ge home (cody forgot his keys!) and i had a 22 of yuengling. (it was awesome though we sat in the car with the top down listening to the nelly and other 90's pop/rap artists )

however prior to that i'm fairly certain i had no more than 700ish cals.
(i'm also pretty sure this is accurate b/c i've been keeping a fitday for so long that i've gotten pretty good and estimating these things)

i'm about to go for a run on the beach as soon as i can get cody's lazy ass up.
ill get him to take a photo.

OK, I'm late to the party, as it took a while for the iPhone USB cable I ordered to make it over here, but here's some pictures I took around Memorial Day for the start of this:

They're pretty sucky pictures, and I'm not looking especially jacked here, but oh well, it's something.

khcadwal, I think one of your first steps should be to keep a food journal. A lot of things that seem healthy or at least harmless are full of empty calories that add up.
