Don Sutton had a great line the other night.

Sure I'd trade Teheran. *5 second pause*. For a 29 year old Ted Williams.

Hunter Pence seems like a dick. Mainly because he's a white guy who looks like he's exerting energy when he runs. Eric Byrnes style.

Another game, another piss poor offensive showing. Please go ahead and ship Heyward back to AAA once either Chipper or Schaefer is back. Dude is either injured and hiding it or needs a mental break from the bigs to figure out what the hell he is doing wrong.

Put Hinske in right, McLouth in center, Prado in left, or if Chipper is still out and JS is back, then Hinske, Schaefer, McLouth across the OF. Supposedly the Braves are trying to get Quentin from the ChiSox for Minor. Good deal IMO if the Braves can convince Kenny Williams that the Sox have zero chance in hell of winning this season.

That's the rumor. I don't see it happening unless we get Pence, and Jon Heyman says the Braves are the only team left in the running.

Heyward : Freeman :: Francoeur : McCann ???

Just because a front office doesn't value OBP doesn't make them full-on retards like Dusty Baker

Baker is one end of the spectrum, Beane is the other

Neither have done shit

Whats the logic in holding all four pitching prospects while watching Philly go out and get Pence?

It's not about holding onto all four, it's about not giving up two of them, which is apparently what Pence would cost. Braves have plenty to build around, no point in mortgaging the future only to lose to the Phillies, who are old as shit. I realize this is difficult to understand for a guy whose team has been run by clowns for the past decade.

Pence is a great player, but he's never going to be an MVP, no point in trading away like he is. Plus he's going to make a shit ton through arbitration and probably wants a long-term deal. Possible ownership change probably makes that a dicey proposition.

[Edited on July 29, 2011 at 1:47 PM. Reason : Braves have no hitters in the farm, gotta use those pitchers wisely]

Braves have arguably 2 of the top pitching spects in Vizcaino & Teheran. If they're gonna move them, they should be able to net far better than Pence

I can't really blame them for going balls out this year. Two years from now they aren't going to have anyone productive left from this team.

If I were a GM I'd never be able to pull the trigger on something like that. I'd always want at least a shot in the near future, even if it means not raising my chances for this year. I'd probably be a shitty GM, though.

he's like the 8th best 2B over the last month, and hitting .333, 4 HR, 9 R, 10 RBI over the last 14. If somebody doesn't have him your league is a joke. although you might have meant that as a joke..

and i can't really understand not having Pence right now. Jurrjens/Hanson are proven, Beachy/Medlen seem like they're at least solid, we don't really need 4 more starters even if Hudson and Lowe are traded/cut/retire or whatever. The Phillies getting better while we sit here with our thumbs up our ass really feels shitty, but maybe they'll pull something out soon

The phillies are set up for collapse in the next 2-3 years. We aren't series contenders with pence this year at all but looking ahead we are great. The phils can over pay and have him and still exit early.

I was really turning a corner on Jordan Schafer, but it'll be nice to add a true lead off hitter and someone that can actually run. I'll take it.

That's kinda bullshit. Wheeler is a better prospect than Minor. Short of including Minor plus another arm (Delgado?) or including Teheran or Vizcaino they couldn't have beaten that return.

I think the point is that Wren never even made a move for Beltran. He's a rental and had a pretty steep price (and can't play CF anymore). Obviously that isn't a good fit for a team that's looking for a long-term solution in center and at the top of the lineup. Beltran isn't a good fit, that's all he was saying.

[Edited on July 31, 2011 at 1:05 PM. Reason : Braves could have put together a better package than the Giants if they wanted him]

I would not say that. Wheeler is currently #35 in BA midseason rankings, which is good, but not overly great. However, he hasn't gotten past high A ball, so his projection while good isn't certain by any means.

minor on the other hand, isn't fully developed, but is "here". being ML ready trumps having to rely on projections.

Glad the Braves added something to our horrid lineup. Got to give Wren credit for getting Bourn without giving up any of the top 4 guys. Schafer is never going to be anything more than a .650 OPS guy and will be out of baseball in three years or less. The rest of the guys we gave up are 50% or less to even make it to the bigs. Abreu may have a better chance to make it as he throws 100, but has no command.

Bourn at least gives the Braves a dimension that they have not had in years in a legit base stealer. Plus it puts Prado hitting 2nd which he is perfect for and gets Heyward's sorry ass out of that spot in the lineup. Heyward should probably just be put in the 8 hole.

New lineup IMO (assuming everyone is healthy):

1. Bourn CF
2. Prado LF
3. Chipper 3B
4. McCann C
5. Uggla 2B
6. Freeman 1B
7. Gonzalez SS
8. Heyward RF (or Hinkse or McLouth)

^ Who has been hitting 2nd? Prado I assume with Schafer or Cantstandya hitting leadoff? I don't get to watch the games anymore, just highlights on ESPN.com so I just assumed he was still in the 2 hole with all of the injuries. Either way he sucks dick and I am glad the Braves got another OF option. Please get healthy McCann and Chipper.
