What to do? My bf called to ask me out to dinner wtih him and his mother tonight. Doing this means I can't go to the gym. I've gone four days this week but if I don't go tonight I can't go this weekend cause I work the hours they are open. I don't want to lose momentum and I'll jump right back intO it. Do you think it'll mess with my weight loss? I want to stay on track but I dint want it to interfere with my life. What would yins do?

I would go to dinner, unless you don't like his mom. You aren't getting in shape for a living, so there's no reason to obsess about it. Just do what you can while still enjoying yourself.

Just don't blow it with a Porterhouse and a cheesecake. Go with chicken or fish without too many starches and you should be fine.

Yeah, whether it is diet or workout, one day is not going to make or break anything. If shit comes up that you feel like you should do, do it. The routine will be there when you get back.

You have to be able to have control with your diet outside of your house or otherwise you could end up sabotaging yourself. You can't deprive yourself from everything all the time.

I officially reached my goal weight of 185 lbs. today!

7 months, 20 days to lose 33 lbs.

I will definitely have a beach body and I aim to keep it!

Thanks, TWW!

Yeah, they took me to Red Lobster so I made it my cheat night which basically means I can have what i want keeping in mind not to go overboard. I had Walter's shrimp with broccoli, two cheesesticks and then took two cheesie biscuits (my weakness!) I left shrimp on my plate.

The next morning I was up two pounds! But I didn't fret. This morning I was back down plus another half pound weight loss. It can be done folks and I don't want life to intrude like it did last time, i feel like I missed out on a lot of good times. But this is the way my life will be forever so I need to make changes that will stick.

^ I think you should stop weighing yourself so much... do you do it every day? One thing that helped me a lot was making a chart where I weighed/measured once a week

lol I do. Just to make sure I'm on track. I don't freak if it goes up one day but it's nice to see it consistently go down. I should probably stop though. i need to do measurements, right now I'm just taking a weekly picture and weighing myself. I think I've packed my measuring tape though, oops.

YES! congrats to H8R! For sticking with it!!

Thanks, Y'all!

From another perspective, these are my measurements before:

6-01-2010: 2-20-2011:

Chest: 44.25" 43.75" -1"
Neck: 16.5" 16" -.5"
L. bicep: 14.75" 13.75" -1"
R. bicep: 15.25" 14.25" -1"
Waist: 42.75" 35.75" -7"
Hips: 44.5" 40.75" -3.75"
L. thigh: 26.25" 23.5" -2.75"
R. thigh: 26.5" 23.25" -3.25"
L. calf: 15.5" 14.5" -1"
R. calf: 17" 15.5" -1.5"

That's a total of -22.75"

My B.M.I. is 25.80 (whatever that is)
Not sure of my body fat percentage right now, but I'm guessing it's around 14 or 15%

I'll stop the cutting phase of my beach body transformation once I can maintain 185 lbs for 2 weeks.

Right now I'm restricted to 1334 calories daily, this is after subtracting workout calories and adding
what I eat. I eat a lot more than 1300 cals per day which is why I work out. I've tried being at a 1000 calorie deficit this whole time, but I know I've made some mistakes. Oh well, life happens.

After 2 weeks at 185, I plan to go to maintenance calories, basically back to 2334 calories per day, net.

This whole tracking process has been a learning experience and now I feel I know what I can and
cannot eat and how much of something I can allow myself to live with. I have cut out some things
that I never thought I could live without, but my digestive system is much happier without them.
I still cheat, but now I can see and feel the benefits of not gorging on a whole bag of oreos at one time.

Just remember that you didn't get bigger overnight and you're not gonna get smaller overnight. Keep at it!

tried taking pics but the camera batteries were dead, so they'll be up later

Thanks again for all the help and advice! You really made me keep myself accountable

This last update was done early January I believe. Here is today.

Waist: was 28.5 inches now 28 inches
arms: were 11 now 10.5 inches
Hips: were 35 inches now 34.5 inches
Butt: was 37 inches now 36.5 inches
Thigh: was 23 inches now 22.5 inches

Not bad. I struggled on my run yesterday but I think it was from the wine I had the night before. I'm working on watching my sodium and food intake on the weekends because I can sometimes go nuts.

Down 2lbs this am, pretty sure it's water weight though. I just wanted it to go down 1lb. You don't think I could have lost muscle after three days of not working out do you?

I sweat off 2-3 pounds of water and can eat who knows how many pounds.

A cup of coffee in the morning alone is about a pound. Shouldn't be weighing yourself that much. Maybe once or twice a month.

I weigh myself every morning but just because I like seeing how diet/hydration/salt/workouts/other random factors affect me. I don't really care about the number anyway so seeing it go up is no big thing and I don't worry about it or feel the need to compensate or anything.

I’m trying to figure out a way to monitor my body composition, specifically my body fat%, over time and was wondering if y'all had any advice. I’ve looked into a body fat scale and calipers, but there obviously seem to be accuracy issues with both.

Am I right that calipers are more accurate? I don’t want to make my wife do it for me every time, and it seems like very few of them allow for self testing, so I’m leaning towards a scale, but they seem to be less accurate depending on your height/weight/age/sex etc. I'm a pretty lean guy and I know I've got a fairly low % already, but I don't know how/if that matters in which is more accurate.

Any thoughts? What does everyone else use?

i use a scale because i SUCK at calipers. i mean really bad, cody tried to help and we both came up with like 35-40%

so now i just kinda use the scale one as a base to decipher whether im losing or not (even though i havent done it in a long while!)

that and ill take the measurement 4-5 times and average it out.

just buy your own calipers from amazon and get good at using them

If you can flex out six abs youre <=10%. I guess if you can do that youre probably not overly concerned with body fat though. Fuzzy if you are even remotely lean you will measure zero (well, as low as it will report) on a scale. I've never measured above the baseline on one of those machines. I do not advise you buy one.

I weigh myself every time i go to the gym (2-3 times a week) and I always weigh within 0.5lb of the last time. I actually logged it in a notebook when i was gaining weight quickly (it was linear FWIW).

I know I should stop but I caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan't. It's too exciting watching it go down! I just need to stop over analyzing if I decide to step on the scale every day.

So weigh yourself every day but don't track or care about anything but a rolling weekly average.

so i was bummed about the fact that i've been doing a decent deficit and like 4-5 hrs cardio / week + 5-6 gym sessions a week with no weight loss... with h8rs suggestion, went to a "2lb/week goal" deficit", and feeling good while doing so.

looked at my original pictures from november, body composition is a lot different, just hadnt noticed it with gradual change (well, the only thing ive noticed is no longer having to do squats every time i put on clean jeans :beatup... so got a body fat measurement done....

nov 10 to today 27.3% - > 20.1%, down 4 lbs

this is totally acceptable

Very inaccurate assessment but I can notice a change happening via the mirror test. I'm holding steady at 167-168 but have noticed a nice decline in stomach pudge and a slight bit of mass gain in the chest. Still not where I want to be but it's progress.

Actually more progress than I expected to this point.
