A couple middle schoolers wearing Mourning and Johnson jerseys does not equate to "Hornet Mania."

Where did you grow up again?

Dude I lived in Jersey until I was a teenager, and every kid in the 90's was rocking a Larry Johnson, Penny Hardaway, Shawn Kemp or Michael Jordan shirt. Those were the Core 4, everywhere in America. The Hornets registered on a National level. Get out of here with your small town bullshit.

Lil Penny was infinitely more popular than Grandmama.

This is the internet, I can exaggerate as much as I want to.

But the fact still stands that a shit-talking little puppet sold a lot more shoes than Tyler Perry's Madea.

yeah a nationwide marketing campaign for Grandmama made the Hornets a big deal

hell, when Larry Johnson in the NFL blew up a few years ago, Chris Berman would call him Grandmama

If you grow up in a certain area, and not only don't root for the local franchises, but actively and vehemently take pride is professing your disdain for the those teams, then its a sucker move. You have no reason to hate the Panthers or the Bobcats, but you choose to do so anyway. I'll give you a pass on the Bobcats, but not liking the Panthers is bitchmade.

You're way too defense. It's obvious I've hurt your feelings.

I've never said I "hate" either of these teams. The Bobcats I really really have no feelings for. I cheered for the Hornets back in the day, but had other favorite teams (and players).

My feelings for the Panthers are pretty similar to how I felt about the Hornets. I don't dislike them at all, I "root" for them when they are playing most teams, but I also have at least 5 or 6 other teams that I will cheer for over the Panthers. I also think it's funny to watch Panthers fan be miserable like they have for the past couple years (not the same joy as watching UNC fans sulk...but just watching disappointed fans of any team that I'm indifferent towards...I take a little joy out of it).

But you're favorite team is the Chargers, and the only reason is because of one player. You can't knock an entire fan base for riding the emotional wave of their team's success when you're so willing to switch allegiances at the drop of a hat. What if he gets traded? Do you have a brand new favorite team?

I'm just glad I could find one thing to troll you on. You obviously got the shit beaten out of you as a kid for wearing a Larry Johnson jersey.

hornets were popular in Charlotte, at least according to attendance numbers, before the owner dicked them over

i dont think Jerry Richardson has said "build me a new stadium/arena or i'm moving the team to another city"

the Hornets were bigger in Charlotte than the Panthers will be for a looong time, simply because the Hornets were our first taste of a pro sports franchise...Bobcats can't possibly ever have the same support as the Hornets, unless they're a perennial championship contender 60 years down the line

^i saw a stat of the attendance numbers of the hornets vs. bobcats. i'm too lazy to find it, but the hornets sold out for years, and then left town. the bobcats don't get nearly the same level of dedication.

also, i find it funny that people are pointing to this series to knock on rose. he played much better against the heat than lebron did last year against the celtics. but yet some people are saying lebron deserves the MVP this year even though his game is virtually the same as it was last year. The only difference in his game is that he now has two other olympians on his team that require defensive attention.

and wasn't face the user who used to ride allen iverson's jock strap for taking the sixers to an NBA finals victory over the lakers? i don't see why he doesn't use that same logic to support d. rose for getting this Bulls team to the best record in the NBA and an eastern conference finals victory over the heat. if rose can get one more player on his team, he could very well add another mvp to his resume.

since the NBA was universally accepted as "better" back in the early 90s, i think Charlotte felt fortunate to have a representative in the league

The NBA was better back in the day because the players were not as athletic, you had illegal defense and you also only had one super stacked team as opposed to five or six.

Being a die hard fan of a professional team because they are in the area is pretty lame imo. You have no relation with the franchise owner or any of the players. They are from all over the country and want to win to make money, NOT FOR THE CITY. With college its different.

speaking of not for the city, what about people who work at the arena and put food on the table from that job? let alone tourism dollars if your team is any good

Quote :
"In the trade being discussed, Cleveland would absorb Detroit's Richard Hamilton into the $14.6 million trade exception it received in last summer's LeBron James sign-and-trade with Miami, while also receiving the Pistons' No. 8 pick. The Cavaliers would then send that pick, along with their fourth pick, to Minnesota for the Timberwolves' second pick.

Cleveland would then buy Hamilton out of the $25 million remaining in the last two years on his contract, leaving the veteran shooting guard free to sign with another club as a free agent. Chicago would be one of the likeliest destinations."

well the off season is already heating up, I'd like to see this happen, derrick williams and irving at the same time would def give those poor clevelanders something to get excited about, plus richard hamilton to chicago might be what they need, only problem is detroit might demand a player like hickson from cleveland

Miami has no chance of winning unless Mourning comes back strong from his kidney issues

also it would be awesome to see Chicago and OKC play a 1-game series tonight for 3rd place

couple nights ago me and my friend whooped the Heat on NBA 2K11 with the 96 Bulls team

sadly thats about the most satisfaction I'm probably going to get from the Finals

I want Dallas to win, not that I'm a fan, I mainly want the Heat to lose. But I see the Heat winning in 5 or 6

combination of jealousy that "my team" can't get a group of players like that, dislike of how Lebron left with The Decision, loss of respect of a superstar in the prime of his career who figures "I can't win, let me team up with another superstar" (prime of his career ie not Payton and Malone, etc)

me personally, I've always hated the Heat, so thats just a bonus

i dont love kobe, i respect him and like watching him play because he is exciting...i used to hate him a lot for not only the reason you mentioned, but also because i thought he was more to blame for the kobe/shaq split

i like watching lebron play, he is also exciting, i just dont like him...and a year ago i loved him...he just made some bad decisions that turned me off and made me not want him to succeed in the NBA...plenty of other people clearly still love him and want him to win tons of titles, he is a polarizing athlete, especially after The Decision

all i know is that however many titles Miami wins, Wade is gonna have one more than Lebron

Prick for not playing in charlotte? Why would a superstar want to live in charlotte? That would be the ultimate buzz kill. YOU'RE GOING TO THE NBA.....yes!!!!.....BUT YOU'LL BE PLAYING IN CHARLOTTE.

Kobe obviously made the best business move by playing in LA and he's been able to live in a great city as well.

Bottom line is It wasn't because the charlotte team wasn't great. It was because of the town and small market.
