Lol they were lucky to beat our shit team. Most people were predicting a 30 point loss.

How's that ACC championship that GT didn't win?

TOB has us light years ahead of PJ in terms of player development and building a program.

I'm a fan of Paul Johnson's bowl record at GT (or his overall bowl record, for that matter).

Give a team more than a week to prepare for that offense...

2003. Houston Bowl. Navy vs. Texas Tech. 38-14. Loss
2004. Emerald Bowl. Navy vs. New Mexico. 34-19. Win
2005. Poinsettia Bowl. Navy vs. Colorado State. 51-30. Win
2006. Car Care Bowl. Navy vs. Boston College. 25-24. Loss
2007. Poinsettia Bowl. Navy vs. Utah. 35-32. Loss ** Did not coach bowl game.

2008. Chick-fil-A Bowl. Georgia Tech vs. LSU. 38-3. Loss
2009. Orange Bowl. Georgia Tech vs. Iowa. 24-14. Loss
2010. Independence Bowl. Georgia Tech. Air Force. 14-7. Loss

Paul Johnson has two glorious wins over the mighty New Mexico Lobos and ferocious Colorado State Rams. Give a team with a serviceable defense a month to prepare for the option, and they shut it down.

Paul Johnson wouldn't have been a bad hire

But godalmighty can you imagine the shit we rational fans would have to put up with through his first three or four seasons

The Herb Sendek comparisons alone would be enough for me to quit TWW for good

^^nobody compares O'Brien to Sendek (not yet, anyway) but the treatment he gets is very Sendekian. I remember when people wanted Sendek the season after our Sweet-16 appearance, and it's almost exactly what people are saying about O'Brien right now after going 9-3

Nah, I just meant boring offense, not winning, etc.

And for a guy who spends a lot of time on the internet, I can't make heads or tails of Slave's post.

It meant the odds of you voluntarily quitting TWW before you're 35 are about the same as the odds of Chipper naming his next kid September

Sometimes I'm like fuck this stupid fucking Wolfweb and I'll be out for the rest of the day. Then first thing in the morning, I get out of the shower and sit down at the computer and instinctively click on the TWW bookmark. It's not even that I enjoy it here anymore, it's just learning to change the muscle memory of opening a browser and clicking on TWW.

Some people won't shut up even if he went undefeated. (either of them) So why should it be a surprise that there is always someone talking about it?

Back to subject: RW is definitely out in front of the pack (pun intended) with regards to the heisman, it could very well be Luck v. Wilson in the end.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. You were comparing schemes of coaches/offenses. I was comparing fan hostility. Fans hate O'Brien for some of the same reasons they hated Sendek (other than playing styles). He's not flashy, he's reserved. And for some reason, that type of personality divides State fans. It's year FIVE, and people are calling for O'Briens head after going 9-3. That's just unreasonable. The worst part is that, even if he sees some sustained success in the next few years (which he'll most likely do considering his resume) fans will still want him out because they've already made up their minds about him. He can go to 5 straight bowls, and we'll still have a divided fanbase unwilling to give him credit for his accomplishments, much like the way Herb was treated. Our fanbase deserves a credibility watch.

it wasn't enough for Wisconsin to steal our strutting mascot or to ruin our NCAA tourny run in 2005. Now they want our heisman favorite.

wtf thats a long time? some schools give you 3 years to get your shit together. 5 years is more than a full cycle of his recruits coming in. every player on this team is his for the first time. this is the best year to judge him on.

I don't even know who said the first quote there ^ but he's right. QB isn't even one of our 6 biggest problems, so we might have gotten 5 wins with Wilson this season instead of 3. The difference would seriously not be as big as you think.

With Wilson I'd say we're maybe 3-2. Maybe. Glennon/QB is not what is holding this team back.

There's a really good mini-documentary on Wilson's dad and how he influenced his work ethic and dual-sport mentality on ESPN (I found it on the Xbox)

Pretty much the exact type of exposure NC State tried to get for him

the quote was that the team would not be ANY different as if wilsons shoes are filled. to say that is to say wilson isn't really that good. you are true on all you say but qb is the most important position and changes there equate to team changes much more drastically than any other position.

I'll have to admit that I've been surprised with Paul Johnson's continued success at Tech. I knew he would take everyone by surprise his first couple years. But then I figured coaches would get use to preparing for his gimmick offense and they would settle in as a consistent 6-8 win team with outliers whenever they got some bad-ass players or had hit a rough injury stretch.

With that being said...their defense is still very suspect and they haven't played a really good team yet (UNC has been the only decent team they've played so far..and that was a close game). And they won't play a good team team until Miami. I can see them mirroring our big year with Chuck when we broke into the top 10 then lost three in a row (starting with GT ironically). They've got Miami, Clemson, and Vtech in a row.

Jury is still out on Tech. Clemson is the class of the ACC right now.

Why does everyone repeat this regarding O'Brien? He did good at BC and on paper he should've been able to do it here, but he didn't. It's been five years, not two. How many years is it supposed to take to get two winning seasons in a row? Ten? And even if he gets things rolling, how much longer do you think a 63 year old will continue coaching?

It's time to move on. Five years in and it's the same thing we've seen FOUR (I'm counting this year as a repeat of the trend) times already: slow start to games, slow start to the season, an unfathomable number of injuries (there's something going on with S&C, there's no way this is a coincidence), losing season. He's not getting it done and he's never going to get it done.

^ Has there been anything in the past 5 years to indicate that the same thing would happen here? Recruiting has fallen off a cliff in case you haven't noticed. And TOB is 63, seriously, do you think he's going to catch fire and stick around for another 20 years?

That post reminds me of the "keep Sid around, K didn't start off so hot either" posts.

The one year that we haven't been decimated by injuries worked out pretty well.

Recruiting will always be challenging when you're recruiting against other schools that pay their players.

Miami would beat UNC on a neutral field.

Miami had an early fluke loss to a Maryland team immediately after all that Shapiro shit came out.

Crushed Ohio State.

Lost a close game to an undefeated Kansas State team that just handed Baylor their first loss.

Ohio State is getting run over by almost everyone this year. The only other argument you have is that they lost there other games. Miami is crap this year, that's all there is to it.
