Might be the worst the Spurs have played all season. Rusty after the long layoff?
After 3 quarters they have 4 FTM, 15 TO, and I can't even count how many shots have missed the rim.
What is going on out there.
I really need Perkins to stay out of foul trouble, the Thunder are significantly better when he goes to the bench. Oh yeah and Fisher, wtf. Played like garbage all year and has game of his life tonight haha 5/27/2012 10:23:42 PM |

Popp is really worrying me with this Stephen Jackson strategy. Not only is he doing a terrible job guarding Durant, but he's a liability on offense. And on top of that they don't have Leonard in which makes them much worse.
Thankfully Scott Brooks is choking by benching Ibaka all game. He was really giving the Spurs some problems but while he's been out the Spurs have gotten nothing but easy buckets in the paint and free throws.
^ Obviously Parker wouldn't make a list of top 5 PG's in the league, so top 5 for MVP is just being silly.

I'm going to say something very profound in this post so take note.
Tonight's game was a great example of why I like to make great bets. When you make a great bet you have a large margin of error built in. The idea is that a team can play well below expectations and you still win the bet a good percentage of the time.
When you make a good (but not great) bet you can still win when the team plays a bit below expectations, but it's very difficult to win when they play well below expectations.
Great bets > Good bets > Average bets >> Bad bets >>>>> Terrible bets
So I may be going too quickly here but let's take a leap to the next step.
How do you identify a great bet? That's not as easy, but when you find them you should bet them. If you know someone who has the ability to identify a great bet and he tells you that bet. That's the bet you should take.
A lot of people want to make this world more complicated than it is. This "take the great bets" advice may sound very simplistic but believe me, very few people are able to follow this strategy. They just can't help themselves. 5/27/2012 11:23:47 PM |

I really shouldn't engage with you or tree because I know tree is is trolling and that you are just an idiot but I can't help myself in this case.
Deron Williams was pretty awful this year. He was a well below average PG and the Nets shouldn't even care if he leaves in free agency. He USED to be a great player and maybe he will become one again. I'll grant you that it's possible that he just didn't give a shit in NJN. But if you're a General Manager and Deron Williams wants to sign with you for upwards of $10M per season you have to be terrified that he's closer to being the 2008 Gilbert Arenas than the 2008 Deron Williams. It's a complete gamble. If it were me, I'd rather spend my cap space on a guy who played well the previous season instead.
His numbers were despicable for a max type player this year.
40.7% FG and 4.0 turnovers per game, where do I sign up?!?!

I'm not having this discussion. Deron Williams was terrible this year. If there was even a subtle argument to be had here I might have it, but the guy sucked and there's no reason to beat that into the ground.
I mean I'll have an argument with someone about who is better between CJ Leslie and Lorenzo Brown, but I'm not going to entertain a discussion about CJ Leslie and Tyler Harris.
^ Im not the coach of the Clippers. How could I possibly predict he'd bench two of his best players Jordan/Evans to play his worst like Young/Williams/Butler. Plus Griffin was injured during the playoffs. By the time the SAS/LAC series came around it was obvious that SAS was going to maul them. I took SAS in 4, remember?
back on track here, why is everyone completely dismissing the Celtics? It's kinda bizarre. These teams are pretty evenly matched.

youre an idiot. I very clearly said i wanted to take boston but the injuries to allen and stiemsma worried me. So without more information id have to predict the bulls in advance. Then i very clearly said if they are healthy by then ill probably take the celtics in the series.
It's like arguing with a 2 year old sometimes you just use phantom logic. It's very easy to read and comprehend what I have put money on. This is not an exact science, but it is very profitable if you do it correctly.
I said I thought Boston would beat Philly in 7 and yes I was right and everyone else was wrong but I still lost money because I bet on Philly +175 because the line was mispriced. In my world that's considered not good. I don't care that everyone knows I predicted Boston in 7. I didn't profit off of it.
I said I thought Chicago would beat Philly in 7 and yes I was wrong as was everyone else. But I made over $1,000 off of my Philly 9:1 odds and Phlly in 6, 30:1 odds bet. I don't care that the Bulls didn't win in 7 like I predicted because I won a free car payment + groceries last month. I profited. 5/28/2012 1:43:52 AM |

here are my predictions for the rest of the playoffs though:
If the Spurs play like they did tonight, they should win the series, somewhere between 4 and 7 games
but if Oklahoma City plays better, they should win the series in between 5 and 7 games
In the East, I think Boston should win in 6...maybe less or more
But if Miami plays well, they might win in 6...or maybe even 4 or 5 or 7, it depends on what I think will happen
In the Finals, I think the Western Conference winner should win the title in 7 games...maybe 4 or 5 or 6, but it depends on what happens
but if the Heat or Celtics are playing great basketball, I think they will win the title, in either 4, 5, 6 or 7 games

It's not a flip flop what is it you're not understanding?
I make my picks every round and i post the bets attached to them. There's nothing to flip. They are stated.
I don't often bet a lot of futures like "Boston to win the Eastern Conference" because the odds are usually a total ripoff.
Now when a really obvious winner stands out like this year when the Spurs were +150 to win their division I will take that. 5/28/2012 1:56:21 AM |

thats fine for your gambling bets, but everybody made picks for all the rounds on page 1 of this thread...thats what people are using for bragging rights, since its this thread, not some vegasodds.com thread that people pick each round
just like an NCAA tourney thread, you don't brag about picking Final Four games once the Final Four is set, you brag about correctly picking the Final Four in the first place
I picked 3 of 4 of the remaining teams before the playoffs, you picked 2 of 4, yet you're the only one who knows everything? go fuck yourself and your female picks of changing them every round
this is the wolfweb bitch, you make your picks before the playoffs and you stick with them, and if you are wrong, people talk shit to you, you dont change them every round, you ride it out
deal with it
--
that being said, feel free to share your gambling wins, you're obviously doing a good job and have a good knack for it...but dont get it twisted that what i am arguing is the pre-playoff picks, which actually take a bit of luck and skill and foresight, not just who wins a 2nd round series regardless of if you picked the teams to get to the 2nd round in the first place
separate your solid gambling percentages from the ncaa tournamentesque aspect of everyone picking all the playoff results in april, and have some humility in your shit actually stinking in that regard]5/28/2012 2:06:06 AM |

I'm not a troll at all and am pretty sure I know more than most/all here about basketball. I don't know anything about gambling though. How many other people in this thread have made a career out of basketball knowledge?
I want to believe this is truly your opinion but the only reason I post here is because this is the only place I can find people saying such ridiculous shit. In everyday life I speak with other basketball professionals and real true players and nobody else would say shit like
What exactly made you think I was an idiot? Was it disagreeing with one of these outlandish statements? Just tell me which numbers made me an idiot in your opinion.
1.Dirk sucks 2.Dirk sucked last year 3.Kobe sucks 4.Kobe was average in his prime 5.AI sucked in his prime 6.Deron Williams sucks 7.Derrick Rose was average in his prime 8.Losing Rose and Noah didn't affect the outcome of the playoffs 9.Bynum is as good as Howard 10.Days of rest has no affect on the outcome of a game
those are just off the top of my head. Just because other people on this site agree with you doesn't make it even close to sound.
NOBODY else says that kind of stuff. Like I said, I grew up around notable basketball players and coaches, stayed in the game my whole life, and have made a career out of basketball knowledge. I may not know a whole lot about the NBA but I know a lot about the game itself and know a lot of people who know even more.
So why does someone like me waste my time talking basketball with internet people?
1.I'm addicted to this site and dont know about most topics so i fit in quite well. Its also cell-phone game fun to get engaged with people about things in the scientific world that I'm an expert on.
2.I could read facebook feed, twitter, texts, talk on the phone, talk with coworkers, and friends and debate several things, disagree on things but never does anyone stray this far. After posting on here, normal, sane basketball discussion feels kind of bland.
3. I have a teacher's problem. When people are ignorant in public it itches me and makes me want to fix it even though its unfixible.

Is Deron a top 10 point guard? Yes. Did he play like a top 10 point guard this year? No. Should we be making generalizations about whether Deron Williams is a top 10 or 20 point guard based on his performance over one year? No, and it's stupid to try.
He's a talented player who suffered from having the burden of carrying the Nets. Who has he had for help? Kris Humprhies? Please. Brook Lopez was out the majority of the year. He had to carry the offense and every opposing team knew it. At least in Utah, he had better role players around him. I fully expect Deron to play better once he's in a different team.
Does it say something about him that he can't function as well without help? Not necessarily. Some of the best point guards listed (CP3, Rose, Rondo, Westbrook) is surrounded by solid talent that makes them look good. In CP3's case, he proved himself when he played with New Orleans..he's also one of the top 3 PGs in the league and its well deserved. Nash is the only PG that has performed well while also being surrounded by lackluster talent this year. Replace Deron with any other starting PG in the league and I would bet that the team would have a similar record (if not better), but that the majority of the PGs would not make the Nets a better team. Devin Harris made the Jazz worse..Deron would have made the Jazz a top 4 seed in the West. 5/28/2012 1:07:00 PM |

Teams scheming to shut down one player doesn't exist in his stat-based world. Teammates putting pressure on the defense to make your life easier doesn't exist either. Replace Williams with Kyrle Lowry and the Nets are much better...in his world. 5/28/2012 1:15:59 PM |
