I just clicked on their site and it looks like the national inquirer. "reporting" is not making-up stories out of unsubstantiated rumors. that's the stuff of tabloids (which sadly, most mainstream news organizations continue to move towards)

I agree, it's sad that mainstream news looks and sounds like tabloids sometimes. It's mind-boggling to consider some of the things that get mentioned on the air.

From what I've read and heard on his radio show, they base their stories and opinion on what people actually say, or what the government publishes, not rumors.

The right is afraid that if it turns out to be a white male, it will be fuel for things against their agenda. You've already seen some fringe left trying to conflate this issue with things like gun control.

The left is afraid that if it turns out to be a Middle Eastern terrorist, it'll lead to backlash against current immigration efforts and cause another wave of anti-Muslim sentiment, and more (ill-placed) fury against the President.

Personally, I think it's just both sides trying to score cheap points on national tragedy, but thankfully, it's mainly fringe elements on both sides at this point.
