Feels like the same problem as always vs UNC. We just don’t have the talent. They’re better than us top to bottom.

They have great guard play. Always have a good PG. We go on long scoring droughts, in part, because we have no real point guard to distribute. Horne is good. But he’s not a PG. Joiner played the role well last year. Joiner could score but was also good at running the point. We’re like 1-2 players away from being a pretty good team. But how do you get over that hump? Better high school recruiting seems like the answer and KK hasn’t excelled there. No matter who the coach is next year, the talent level has to improve. This year it’s Horne and then like 7 role players. Jayden Taylor has been really good lately and Mo is giving us really good minutes on both ends of the floor. Those are good pieces to have next year but we need a lot around them

We will almost never be to be able to match the talent of unc. Their name is always going to attract more. But we flat outplayed them the first half (and got quite a few lucky bounces). The second half the refs absolutely stepped in, in UNCs favor, which definitely contributed, but wasn’t the deciding factor. We couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn second half

Agreed that Cormac Ryan is a douche. Also agree that we lack talent to compete. O Connel is so bad at scoring that no one has to defend him. Middlebrooks and Diara are no threat to score either other than a putback off a rebound. Horne is about the only one who can create. Sometimes Morsell or Taylor will get hot for a few minutes but not enough to be a good team.

Yeah I don’t know that Pass or Thomas are any good. But Pass’s recent usage is just weird. They either are so bad they shouldn’t get off the bench. Or they’re being criminally underused. Neither would have saved our season but the rotations and their usage has been weird. Especially when KK talked about how deep we were in the preseason. We don’t really use our depth.

I think Mo is maybe least likely to leave, he's in line to be a key player next year. Taylor may be unhappy with PT downturn but without DJH, MOC and Casey, seems like he will also be key. Middlebrooks getting more PT than at clemson def, would KK plan to start he and Mo together?

Rice and Woods are enigmas, wouldn't be surprised either way.

Idk if he’s gone. Feels like the fan base has reached a point where it’d be hard to bring him back. But who knows.

If he’s gone the roster will look way different next year. If he stays the roster will probably be way different next year even though we only lose 3 guys to graduation.

Next year’s roster is kinda weird. We have the potential to return a lotta pieces. But the problem with this team all along was we had a lot of guys who were role players but not primary scorers. So we lose our 2 primary scorers and bring back like 9 role players. Thats not good! But it probably won’t matter because im sure there will be plenty of roster attrition regardless of the coach

Not saying it's a good or bad thing, just that a coaching change in modern college basketball pretty much means an entirely new roster. And any new coach will undoubtedly bring in worse HS recruits the first year because they will either be guys the coach recruited at his current(lesser) school or uncommitted lower ranked recruits.

Losing McNeil would suck because he is absolutely the kind of scorer missing from the current team.

But it doesn't really matter because college sports are dying, if not dead already and will completely unrecognizable in a few years. College football is pointless if you're not in the SEC/B1G now and college basketball is going to expand the tournament again and likely fuck it up just as badly.

In the portal/NIL era I do think navigating a coaching change is easier. There will always be a drop off with talent leaving after a coaching change. But with transfers not sitting out, you can still get some immediate contributors.

Either way. The roster next year isn’t a reason to keep or fire KK. McNeil sounds like a baller but you can’t handcuff yourself to a bad coach just for one recruit. And I’m not even super anti-Keatts. Fire him or don’t. I don’t feel strongly either way tbh. I do think it’s pretty obvious that the results through 7 years haven’t been up to what we should reasonably expect.
