i think sidney may change recruiting for everyone. he has shown that a school that has been pretty shitty lately can recruit with the big names (particularly callipari [that dirtbag]) simply by spotting their talent way before everyone else and sticking with them from the beginning. 6/9/2010 10:22:34 PM |

Damn, we're starting to look thin on depth as far as practice goes. One person gets hurt and we're going to have to rely on walk-ons just to play five-on-five. 6/9/2010 10:38:04 PM |

I feel like 99% of these recruiting "experts" just see that Uchebo is a tall african and say he's raw with upside without ever actually watching him play. If his name was Joe Howell we might get some actual reports on him
as for Thomas, I think it's a net-zero. There was some potential he might one day be at least a halfway useful player (he'd still have two years provided he was rewarded a medical redshirt correct?) with the flashes of his rebounding and mid-range jumper, but as of now all this does is stop Lowe from being tempted to play too many guys. Between Leslie, Wood, Williams and Brown we have enough options on the wing that worrying about injuries should only come into play if we switch back to LA Gear. Since he graduated, I see no downside 6/9/2010 10:45:23 PM |

That sucks that Thomas may leave after he graduates. I'd like to have him back simply for depth. I was all for Mays leaving, but I hate that Davis is gone. Wonder if Will Roach can come back....... 6/9/2010 10:53:06 PM |

CJ Williams just became that much more important. With Johnny gone, that leaves us only 5 scholarship guards on the roster. Count on at least one of them getting injured at some point during the season, and our depth is looking pretty bad. 6/10/2010 10:34:49 AM |

Lol, dweedle. I am interested to see what happens with MSU's recruits though. We've definitely got enough room to take a shot at at least one of them, even if he's a project. Of course that would all depend on Izzo taking the Cleveland job AND MSU releasing the players from their LOI's. 6/10/2010 1:00:09 PM |

uhh, he wasn't a post player, he's only about 6'5" - 6'6", he hung out on the perimeter on offense, he rotated in and out with Williams and Wood, and usually guarded the other team's most dangerous guard. Maybe he's technically listed as a forward on gopack, but that's a guard in my book.

I thought it was a bit odd that the timeline seemed to go:
1. Uchebo is thinking about a transfer to WOG 1a. time passes 2. Oak Ridge decides not to invite him back to school next year. 3. Also, he's kicked off the Oak Ridge team. 4. The next day he's a student at WOG.6/11/2010 8:25:56 AM |

I don't understand why people are still inserting Howell into the starting lineup, leaving our most dangerous deep threat worthless on the bench (nonetheless, a starter from last year). I know Howell came on strong last year, but he's the same build as Smith. Why not have him relieve Smith off the bench and keep a fresh heavy body on the court at all times?
Here's my rotation:
PG: Harrow, Javi SG: Brown, CJW SF: Wood, CJW PF: CJL, Painter C: Smith, Howell, Vandy 6/11/2010 4:25:11 PM |

the only thing sketchy about the situation is Oak Ridge's coach
he got butthurt that Uchebo was transferring and instead of acting like a normal adult about the situation, he throws a 17 year old kid under the bus and makes him look like the bad guy
this guy sounds like a bigger sleezebag than Calipari

Quote : | "On April 10, three weeks after Northern won the 3-A state title, the school's principal, athletics director and lead custodian, whose son played on the Nighthawks' basketball team, resigned. That same day, school system officials announced they were investigating Northern's athletics program for eligibility issues.
Officials wouldn't say what sport they were looking into. Then again they didn't need to: Ten of Kowalewski's 16 basketball players also competed for the NC Gaters, the state's largest AAU basketball program.
For months, coaches and parents had quietly complained to officials that Kowalewski, vice president of the Gaters and one of the program's coaches, was recruiting Gaters players. Some from as far away as Mebane and Yanceyville.
When investigators determined Northern had used two ineligible players — a ruling that cost the school its 3-A title, Kowalewski was livid. He blasted the handling of the probe, yet in the same breath, pointed out that investigators had determined he had done nothing wrong.
Investigators also questioned his spending of more than $5,200 from a Northern Guilford basketball account on personal expenses such as landscaping, satellite television and a home exterminator." |

For me, it's a matter of getting a dominant rebounder on the court with Smith. If CJL is a good rebounder, I'd start him at PF, Wood at SF, and not think twice about it. But I don't know how good of a rebounder he is, or dedicated he is to crashing the boards. Howell obviously is, and his a pretty unique skill set for such a bulky guy.
Or course, it doesn't really matter. Just speculation at this point.6/11/2010 5:54:46 PM |

I think people are putting Howell and Smith on the court together after seeing how well our rebounding was when both were in at the same time. 6/11/2010 9:11:07 PM |

Plus, Howell is a 4. CJ is better suited for the 3. CJ is ~185 pounds so you'd prefer to not have him anchoring your frontline, but rather have him on the wing where he can excel 6/11/2010 10:43:56 PM |
