I think it's awesome that he and ZO are already working on training together. It seems rare that recruits have the opportunity to practice together before they arrive in college. They can only further develop how much they already compliment each other. 6/21/2010 1:43:03 PM |

Don't roll your eyes like a smart ass. The guy is 6'9 or 6'10 at the most. Scout and Rivals have updated their profile with him at 6'9, I was just commenting on ESPN's continuous shitty job of recruiting coverage. And yes, it is very OBVIOUS he isn't 7'0 from a shitty youtube video.

overview of tyler harris' visit
Tuesday – June 22, 2010
“Tyler has another great day on an unofficial visit at North Carolina State. All the coaches were cool and the campus is beautiful and big. Tyler had a sit down meeting with Coach [Sidney] Lowe in which Tyler came away very impressed. Coach [Larry] Harris was great. He gave us a tour of the whole university. Tyler was very impressed with the school, the practice facility and RBC center where the basketball team plays all of their home games. Tyler had the opportunity to speak with the academic adviser. Tyler had the chance to play pickup games against current and former players, even some of the top name players who played at Duke were in the gym. The game was popping. Tyler’s team won 6 straight game. He held his own playing against these great players.”

Thoughts on Uchebo and others at the NBPA camp
Joseph Uchebo: Now a member of the 2011 class, and now being listed as a part of Word of God, Uchebo was at his best when it mattered the most. Going up against a talented frontline including Behanan and Davis, Uchebo finished with roughly 20 rebounds, and was a force on the offensive and defensive glass. While Uchebo didn't convert as often as he would have liked around the rim, his physical presence on the glass was definitely a driving force in getting his team the win.

Quotes from Tyler Harris on WPH
On why he came to the Triangle for his first unofficial visits...
UNC is my dream school. I always wanted to visit them first, because ever since I was a kid I’ve liked UNC. I don’t know if they are going to be my favorite school yet. I don’t have a favorite yet. I’m still wide open. That’s the only reason I came down here. The other schools were in the area, so I was able to visit them as well.

He wasn't on an official visit here. Players can't take their official visit until late in their senior year. He and his family foot the bill for his trip down to the Triangle. I don't see why everyone is so upset that he admitted to liking UNC as a kid. A lot of kids did, and who can blame them when Jordan went there, they have had pretty consistent success, and ESPN hypes them up like crazy. I was one of the few kids that hated them and that disgusting color growing up. I remember being the only person in my family pulling for Michigan over them in the 93 championship game. 6/25/2010 5:15:07 PM |

^^^ Those are people though who applied to both schools, didn't get into UNC, and got into State because State's undergrad is now about 8,000 people bigger than UNC's. Then they talk to down to everyone on campus and act like assholes to anyone who would ever say that State was their first choice.
I just have a problem with a recruit coming out with his recruitment still going on and saying that one school happened to be his dream school and that he just viewed State/Duke because they were close to that school.

http://packinsider.com/2010/07/deshawn-painter-better-b/
Quote : | " When Wolfpack head coach Sidney Lowe moved DeShawn Painter from the 4 spot to the 5 it seemed as if it would be a few more seasons until Painter would find himself with any kind of significant role for the Wolfpack. Tracy Smith, NC State's leading scorer, rebounder and second team All-ACC selection was one of the top players in the conference. Any player challenging him for his starting spot would surely take a back seat. That was until Smith briefly entered his name into this June's NBA draft. "The main thing is he wanted to put his name in just in case. Just in case something big came up. He didn't want to be in the situation where he didn't have it in there and someone call and say why isn't he in. I always felt he was coming back. I did make some calls and some of what we heard was good but it just wasn't where he wanted to be." said Lowe. While there was never a real thought that anything career changing would come out of this for Smith, what did happen altered the path of two other Wolfpack players waiting in the wings. Tracy Smith withdrew his name from the draft in order to stay eligible for the upcoming season but it wasn't before he got a little feedback from some NBA personnel. "He needs to get stronger, improve his rebounding and toughen up his defense." Lowe mentioned in Tuesday's press conference. They also told Smith that if he's going to make it in the NBA it will likely be at the 4 position. This off-season Sidney Lowe made a move that will likely be not only beneficial to Smith's future, but also to the Wolfpack front court. The NC State coach switched Smith to the 4 , giving him the opportunity to expand his game, have more face-up scoring opportunities and giving him the freedom to showcase his athleticism a bit more. With Smith moving out of the 5 spot, Lowe is looking towards two players to pick up the slack and one to move into the starting line-up. 6'9 sophomore DeShawn Painter and 7'1 sophomore Jordan Vandenberg played a combined 343 minutes last season, and together tallied up 2.6 points per game. Not necessarily staggering numbers from players hoping to crack this years starting line-up, however, the Wolfpack coaching staff know to look deeper than the stat line. From all accounts it seems as if Painter is currently the frontrunner for the starting spot and is making sure he can capitalize on his opportunity. This off-season Painter has took it upon himself to reconstruct his game, his body and his focus with the help of former NC State superstar Julius Hodge. Hodge, currently making his home in Raleigh, has been up at the break of day, everyday, with DeShawn. Their daily workouts include weightlifting, running and skill training. "DeShawn is a different player from a year ago. We get up early almost everyday. He's gotten a lot bigger, a lot stronger." said Hodge "We're working a lot on finishing high and finishing strong. He's already up there, why are you laying it in? Flush it, throw it down, let out a scream. His confidence is there this year, he's learning how to use his emotion to his advantage. I have him and Jordan doing a lot of drills I learned in the NBA. They're doing a bunch of post drills I learned from NeNe in Denver." Hodge hasn't kept his little project a secret either. His constantly growing popularity in Raleigh has earned him an enormous twitter following that is well aware of these intense workouts with DeShawn and Jordan. Hodge, at times, updates Wolfpack fans on their hard work and even calls on the fans to keep the two big men accountable when he's not around. Here are a few tweets he's sent out in recent weeks: "Anybody see Jordan Vandy walking on campus or anywhere. Ask him did he study his Kareem and Hakeem tapes? If he says no.let me kno asap!" "To my aussie..wish I coulda played wit Jordan Vandy.. I luv pick n roll with him. He NOW flushes EVERYTHING!" "Crazy..I woke up thinking pool workout and where ima watch the USA World Cup game at 2pm?? 1st thing 1st DP (DeShawn Painter) wake the heezy up!!" "Juss got out the gym with my yung'n D.Painter (DP).. Been in there since 1245pm.. Barbecue time now" (posted at 4:55pm) With Hodge's help, Deshawn and Jordan have improved by leaps and bounds, gaining the attention of the Wolfpack coaching staff who, while impressed by their improvement, know there is a big task ahead for both. "Better be ready. They better be ready." Lowe said. "I've talked to both of them and told them that this is a great opportunity for them both. Not a lot of pressure on them. They'll have a lot of guys on the floor that can help them along and score. We need them to rebound and defend. DeShawn can score. That's what he did in high school. It's going to be a great opportunity. DeShawn is fired up. You'll see him. He's bigger, he's stronger and he's in here every day working out so it's going to be a great opportunity for him." Excitement around the NC State program is reaching what may be a 25 year high. And while most are hinging NC State's success on the incoming freshman class, you may want to shift some focus to the two players competing for the starting center spot. Two players who's performances may alter the path of Wolfpack's season. Two players who "better be ready."" |
