I'll agree with him bringing in monster talent. Hickson, Smith, the guys this year, he's very credible at that.
But me, as a casual basketball fan, have heard nothing but bitching about point guard and noticed its been a glaring need. I like Javi, think he has great energy and that latin fire, but often his plays just put us in the gutter when we are behind with his reckless drives and ridiculous 2 point jump shots. But other than Javi, we haven't had a good point guard. 1/13/2011 3:53:00 PM |

I don't care at all that Sid put Javi in the game.
What I care about is this --- watch the damn play again. He comes in at 3:38, up to that point BC has been in man to man. Coming out of the timeout, Donahue goes zone. We start to set some down screens for Scott Wood, and then it dawns on them.... "oh fuck, they're playing zone.".
Javi looks to the sidelines, Lowe's doing his usual retarded arm flailing, and then it's time for the infamous Javi heave.
Lowe flat out got pwned coming out of that timeout. I don't care that he put Javi in. Part of it is also on Javi for being a senior point guard who doesn't recognize the situation and doesn't at least attempt to drive into the zone to create a better shot after the set play was clearly busted due to the opposing defensive call.
The Lowe lovers in this thread sure are quick to throw Javi under the bus, saying he sucks, throwing off on him, but are conveniently ignoring that Donahue owned his ass from the sidelines with the defensive switch.
Of course, the Lowe lovers obviously don't know good coaching when they see it, otherwise they wouldn't support his hapless ass. 1/13/2011 3:54:24 PM |

The class w/ Tracy and JJ was ok.
I was also happy with the class of Wood, Howell, Painter, and Vandy (and shoulda been Lo).

UNC's "monster talent" is based on the fact they committed to UNC not because they are actually good.

No.
I'm saying that: #1. Lowe didn't have the team ready for anything other than a man to man #2. Javi had no idea how the fuck to improvise.
#2 is partly on Javi, and partly on our coaching. He wasn't prepared for the situation, and I have a feeling Lowe's constant control freak whistling in and play calling on offense is so ingrained in these kids head, it's not conducive to them thinking for themselves.
Lowe wasn't distracting him, but the fact that Javi felt the need to look toward the bench when the defensive curve was thrown at him is very telling for both our senior point guard and those on the bench who have coached him for 4 years.1/13/2011 4:02:43 PM |

When Lowe was talking about the incoming Harrow, he specifically mentioned that Harrow brought a skill to the position that allowed for him to improvise, a skill that meant Lowe wouldn't have to babysit the offense as much. the implication obviously being that Javi doesn't have the ability to just run the offense, they HAVE to do plays in order to be successful.1/13/2011 4:08:24 PM |

I think he certainly has that advantage over Javi, but I'm pretty sure Lowe won't survive to see it. If he doesn't make the tournament this year, he's gone for sure, and rightfully so.
I still think that Javi's inability to do that now, as a senior, certainly falls on the coaches. As does the horrendous team defense and rebounding we've seen the last 4 years. Although, the rebounding is getting much better, namely the addition of Leslie. (the rebounding issues also fall mostly on Larry Harris who can recruit like crazy, but can't coach up the big men worth a fuck).
If Sid is retained by some miracle(like, gets in the NIT and Yow for whatever reason lets him finish out his contract), we absolutely have to fire Towe and add another big man coach and/or a better X's and O's guy.

Hey man. I'm not calling you a retard, and I'm not saying why anyone else has.
