what i have found that works well for me is a good, comfortable (like the soft squishy kind, not like the nascar racin' hard kind that hurts to put in your ears) pair of EAR PLUGS. if you are trying to sleep. it really helps me drown out my neighbors noise so we can both be content.

the only thing it doesn't help with is the base that comes through the floor / video game noises that vibrate through the floor, but i can deal with a little vibration.

I run my fan at night 365 days a year, even in the dead of winter. Can't sleep without it even though it pisses off my g/f.

Tonight is one of those nights where it's hot in my room but cool outside so I'd feel guilty of blasting AC. FML?

^^^haha luckily my neighbors aren't like that. i just live in kind of an old building so sound travels. plus my bedroom wall is the wall of his living room and the tv is like RIGHT there. so the earplugs work for me fine, for that.

but i understand about the fan. i used to have to hear the drone of my fan to go to sleep too. i still use it at my parent's house...even in the winter. oops!

same here. i run the small fan in the winter and the big one in the summer (mainly b/c i stole the big one from my roommate who isn't here for the summer)
