Apple doesn't leak info beforehand (unless they lose the device, which is a different situation) & lots of folks have gotten their hopes up in the past just to be disappointed at launch. I'll wait & get excited about it on sept 12."

The irony of this statement is that the Sept 12th date itself, is still just a rumor.

I am looking forward to getting my first iPhone. Have had an Evo for the past couple years, and now that Sprint has the iPhone I just hope they'll get it like the other major carriers in September.

After using jelly bean 4.1 for a week on this Nexus 7 I may be ditching the iPhone and iPad. This is way better than iOS.

iOS6 Jailbreaker sells his JB iPhone4 to an Apple programmer for $50

http://appadvice.com/appnn/2012/08/former-ios-6-hacker-p0sixninja-betrays-jailbreak-community

Quote :
"The story of P0sixninja leaving the Chronic-Dev Team of jailbreakers has just taken an interesting turn. According to iJalibreak, the hacker formerly known as Joshua Hill apparently sold an iOS 6 jailbreak and an iPhone 4 to an Apple employee for the massive sum of $50.

And it wasn’t just any run-of-the-mill exploit. It could have possibly been used to jailbreak all devices running iOS 6, like the upcoming next-generation iPhone and Apple TV, untethered. For those of you not aware of the terminology, an untethered exploit would allow a user to reboot their iOS device and keep the jailbreak without having to reattach to a computer.

The exploit, named iBoot 0day, was apparently sold off by P0sixninja according to the pictured series of tweets.

A man named James Magahern was the lucky buyer. But there was one small problem – his employer.

Magahern is a programmer for Apple, a fact he apparently hid when purchasing the exploit. And this spells bad news for iBoot 0day ever seeing the light of day as all it takes to fix the issue is a simple iOS 6 patch before the operating system is officially released sometime this fall.

Not surprisingly, the jailbreak community is less than amused with P0sixninja as it will probably take even that much longer to come up with a new jailbreak for the OS.

The Chronic-Dev Team made a name for itself with the creation of jailbreaking tools like greenpois0n and Absinthe.

When announcing his departure from the team, P0sixninja said it was “never about money.” But maybe he should have checked a little closer to see who he was selling the powerful exploit to for a paltry sum."

no more youtube integration in iOS?

False. No more standalone app included in iOS by default. Big difference. You can still watch youtube videos in the browser (which is better than the stupid app anyway) and google will be releasing their own app for people that want to have a standalone app. The only difference is that you'll have to choose to download it instead of it being pre-installed. It's really not as big of a deal as everyone seems to be wanting it to be.

why would they do that? a youtube app is a pretty big deal to most people. (even if you can still download it)

Because Google and Apple are clearly drawing a line in the sand against each other. They are competing in the exact same space and at some point you knew something like this would happen. It's not like Youtube support is gone, Apple can't do that (yet) because Google owned YouTube makes up like 75% of videos online. But you better believe they want to.

i won't miss the app at all.. i found it annoying whenever i was taken out of another app just to watch a video. that didn't seem to always happen but i don't remember the exact situations.

as long as it can still play videos, then i guess it is OK

however, if apple tries to go completely away from youtube and won't play the videos period, then a lot of people will jump ship to the other guys

Do you have any stats to back that up, or are you just applying your personal opinion to how you think most people would feel as well?

I haven't used the standalone app in years. For 99% of YouTube videos that I encounter, they are embedded and I can click to watch them in the browser. The other 1% are videos that I want to save for offline viewing later, so I open them in the jailbreak app ProTube, which I installed to replace the YouTube app. I assume that the official app has the ability to see videos that you've subscribed to, and other features of the social networking aspect of YouTube, but I have to think that the people that need that functionality are in the minority. Or 13 years old.

This (and ^that) is easily one of the most ignorant things I've read in a while. Firstly, there's no such thing as "YouTube support". They have all their videos in html5 format, and any modern web browser on any platform can view them. There's nothing to support. Worrying about if the next iPhone will be able to watch YouTube videos makes about as much sense in wondering if you will be able to see bolded text, or the color blue.

Nacho - I was saying that it's not like that mythical support for Youtube videos does not exist. I realize that most everything is HTML5 now (at least with good sites that care about compatibility) it's the whole reason Anrdoid's Jellybean can drop mobile flash.

My point was that Apple would prefer to have a way to be the go to person for videos and push Google out of the way completely. They don't want to have to supply a way to use their competitors products, but they are also not stupid and won't completely remove them without having a very popular Apple alternative. All you have to do is look at the Maps application for the way they plan to go with apps previously provided by Google.

any ideas of current price points for resell of a 4S and what the new cost of the "5" may be?

When you're talking price, are you meaning the subsidized price from a provider like AT&T/Verizon with a 2 year contract or the brand new price with no contract?

I've seen no indication that pricing will differ on the iPhone 5 from the previous price structure. I would expect to pay $200 with a 2 year contract from the major providers for whatever the "base" version of the iPhone 5 is.

As far as resale value of old iPhone 4S, you should be able to get a pretty penny for it now, and slightly less after the 5 comes out. Apple phones hold a pretty high value even after they are a model old.

if you can jailbreak your 4 or 4s and it is in pretty good physical condition, you can easily pay for a subsidized 5. I have been doing that since the first one. Every other year, subsidized. Pay full price (minus the sale price of previous version) the other years.

I have never "payed" for a phone upgrade and I have had every model.

nacho, i was talking about a lot of "inexperienced" users (like my mother, aunt, friends who are not computer savvy), who would probably have no clue how to open a youtube video if not for the youtube app. believe it or not, there are a LOT of people who rely solely on that app to watch youtube videos.

I understand from your point of view that it doesn't really make a difference to the tech-savvy person. I agree with you.

I would assume there will be a downloadable YouTube app, probably very similar if not identical to the interface and functionality of the current app, the only difference being it's not integral to the OS.

I have a verizon iphone 4s that is NOT jail broken. Would I be able to sell it on eBay? How would I go about "restoring" or erasing all my info off of it?

how would i go about that? would i have to upgrade to the new iphone first so that my 4s is "deactivated"? then i'd be able to sell it right? Would verizon have to do anything to it so that my account is no longer tagged to it?

^If you buy a new phone and activate it, your current phone is no longer tied to the account and the ESN is clear for someone else to use it.

the price difference will probably be the same as me buying the phone at upgrade price (which i'm not eligible for until july '13)

my iphone is having issues. when i search for something using the built in google search bar in safari, the results come back without formatting of any kind. it's just times new roman, links all over the place, text on top of text in places, completely fucked up. the first time it happened, i had to go clear all cookies, history, etc to make it work again. this is the 3rd time this has happened. i've also done a couple of resets (home + power button) but idk if that makes a difference. i've tried googling this problem but i haven't found my same issue anywhere yet. halp

I've never heard of that happening. I'd try a system restore to see if that fixes it. One thing to note: Obviously, back it up first, and then do a system restore. But before you restore from the backup, make sure it isn't still screwed up. Then if it is screwed up after you restore from backup, you will know that whatever is causing the issue was saved and restored from the backup. It sounds silly, but I had a different issue (can't even remember what it was now) and it kept coming back even after a system restore. Turns out that there was some bad data getting backed up and the only way I could fix it was to selectively restore bits and pieces from my backup. Hopefully you won't have to go through that nastiness.

Okay, I could use some help/advice.

I am moving, and I recently updated/changed my own address in my iPhone 4S. After, to make sure it worked, I checked my GoogleMaps app, and my old address showed up.

After doing some digging, I took the steps to deselect my Contacts on the iPhone iCloud, wait, then re-select.

When that happened, my contacts disappeared.

Looking some more into it, I had to do the same thing on my laptop (MBP).

Once I re-selected on my laptop, seven copies of iCloud Accounts showed up in Contacts on my MBP, and my contacts in iPhone was still blank. If I went into GoogleMaps and selected the contacts button, they all showed up. Same with the phone.

Now, some of my contacts are back on my iPhone, but a lot of my addresses are missing.

Okay...this is crazy.

In an attempt to restore my contacts on my iPhone, I proceeded to reset and erase. After two hours of the spinning wheel, I hard reset (lock button + home button) it. When it restarted, it was as if I never reset it.

While I was waiting, I exported all of my contacts from MBP to my desktop, logged in to my icloud.com, and imported them.

When the iPhone restarted, all of my contacts were there (having been taken from my iCloud).

so...what I did was pointless.

All because I wanted to change my own address.

Quality product, Apple.
