Lowe won 20 games in a season twice, which is what pissed me off about the article.

His Lowe ever won 20 games in a regular season? I don't know but that might be what they are referring to?

When has that ever been the emphasis on measuring wins in a season? No, Miss Tke, they just made a mistake.

Burn him! I'm really just uber sensitive over anything related to Herb, as he is easily the most overrated coach in the country. ZERO significant accomplishments in almost 20 years of coaching, a notch or two below the likes of Dave Odom, Cliff Ellis, and Paul Hewitt.

I don't really buy the 20 win plateau as a good indicator of success, but if you're going to bring it up at least do some fucking research.

Hewitt got to the Final Four, and then won a game

Herb has one Sweet 16 for his entire career

I would take Herb over Hewitt any day of the week (and twice on sundays). At least Herb isn't going to tell opposing fans to "Shut the fuck up!" because they are taunting a player on his team who is literally retarded.

i look at it like this:

A) 5 year span: 5 NCAA tourney appearances, made one Sweet 16
B) 5 year span: 2-3(?) NCAA tourney appearances, played in the National Championship game

I'm taking B all day

coaching ability + recruiting ability = results

Herb is an exercise in futility. His entire career has been one long running joke.

No one gets more from less and less from more.

Having Herb as a coach is like simulating the season. You know what's going to happen, why even bother watching...

Meh, Hewitt got lucky that year. IMO, he's a horrible coach. Herb isn't great, but he's better than Paul. He pretty much owned Georgia Tech over the years when they went head to head.

Marshall Plumlee committed to Duke today. Big surprise, I know. Whatever, I think Uchebo is better anyways.

Will this hurt the way Lowe is trying to revolutionize recruiting?

Ideally we'll start winning some fucking games this season and won't need to be the first to offer them. Also saying that Lowe revolutionized recruiting by offering kids their sophomore year is laughable.

I dont think so...whether a scholarship is offered or not, they still remember the first guy to come watch them play or show interest in them

Lowe didn't revolutionize recruiting. He just happens to be a really, really good talent evaluator. That's why if he'd been a college assistant for a few years instead of in the NBA then maybe he wouldn't have had to build so many AAU contacts. I don't think this hurts Lowe at all, he can still get in with them early and if we can win and the program back to where it used to be then he can get in late with some guys and still get them.

Murphy to attend NCSU, will have to walk-on

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/swakesports/murphy-to-attend-ncsu-will-have-to-walk-on

Quote :
"
Despite being one of the most important and decorated players in Apex High's history, Weston Murphy will have to earn a walk-on spot to continue playing basketball.

Murphy, a 2010 graduate, played three years of varsity for the Cougars and totaled 1,250 points, more than 500 rebounds and more than 200 blocks. He hit the game-winning shot in the 4-A East regional final in 2008 that sent Apex to the 4-A title game.

But Murphy, who wants to major in engineering, wasn't offered a scholarship by any Division I schools. He did draw interest from some Ivy League programs as well as New Jersey Institute of Technology. But instead, he will attend N.C. State in the fall. The chances of him playing for the Wolfpack are still up in the air.

"[NCSU assistant coach] Pete Strickland has talked to me a couple of times about the possibility of [Murphy walking on]," Apex coach David Neal said.

In two of the last four years, N.C. State has held walk-on tryouts. With State losing three players via transfer this off-season — including Murphy's former conference foe Josh Davis — there's a chance those tryouts will open up to fill roster spots.

"I'm hoping they'll have a need," Neal said.

More recently, Murphy was perhaps best known for coming up with big games in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational. Murphy scored 22 points this year against Word of God and C.J. Leslie, who had 31. He had 29 against Wilson Greenfield and outplayed Luke Cothron of Flora MacDonald by scoring 18.

In two years, Murphy averaged 19.1 points per Glaxo contest. He averaged 22 per game in 2008 going against Ravenscroft's Ryan Kelly and Enloe's Melvin Tabb.

Murphy led Apex in scoring and rebounding in each of the last three years. He averaged 16.3 this season as the Cougars finished with a 23-5 record."

The man has passion to play. I like him already. Put him on the list, and if he performs and a scholarship opens up, give it to him.

It's not often you see players with a character like that.

The staff is just evaluating right now for the most part. They are a little behind on the 2011 class after the work the 2010 class took. From what I keep reading, it is looking like they will take 1 or 2 more after Uchebo and load up on the 2012 class. Here are some names I keep seeing:

2011
Tyler Harris - http://westvirginia.scout.com/a.z?s=159&p=8&c=1&nid=3906317
Chris Wilson - http://florida.scout.com/a.z?s=168&p=8&c=1&nid=4722353
Ryan Boatright - http://hsillinois.scout.com/a.z?s=220&p=8&c=1&nid=3203612
Derrick Henry - http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=4984953
CJ Blackwell - http://hsgeorgia.scout.com/a.z?s=37&p=8&c=1&nid=5063363
Jerome Seagers - http://florida.scout.com/a.z?s=168&p=8&c=1&nid=4722353

2012
Montrezl Harrell - http://hsnorthcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=404&p=8&c=1&nid=4358055
Tyler Lewis - http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=4256950
Chuck Mitchel - http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/a.z?s=178&p=8&c=1&nid=4008445
James Robinson - http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=4430218
