well seeing that mcbride has pitched in about 100 more games than devine, it's a little early to make that comparison

devine got rocked last night. 3 batters...3 hits. I think he threw like 5 pitches. Then i turned the TV off...

^ He pitched one inning, gave up 2 hits, no runs, and struck out 2 batters.

I think the Braves dealt for Ledezma because he can give them a spot start every now and then and can work in long relief as a lefty. McBride could do neither and other than Villareal the Braves didn't have any other true long relief guys. Plus given that we are sending out Davies, Cormier, and Buddy Fucking Carlyle half the time, we need some better long relievers.

btw:

Quote :
"After Friday night's 5-0 loss to the Tigers, Smoltz said: "You can't worry about who's in the lineup and who isn't. You can't worry about that stuff anymore."

Smoltz didn't identify Jones as a player not in the lineup, but after Saturday's game Jones said he got the message.

"I'd be stupid if I didn't take it the same way," Jones said, adding he planned to "play the rest of the games this year and do whatever I can. Somebody I know better not miss a start."

Smoltz, asked Saturday if he was referring to Jones, said: "I have no comment. I'm not even going to address that."
"

bickering begins. this is really starting to get sick, especially from chipper's end. he's turned into quite the little bitch lately. not too sure how much room he has to snipe at smoltz. just insane.

^^^ starting that again?!

What's up with Andruw? Guy should be tearing it up in his contract year like Hunter is doing and Beltran/Wells did. He's losing A LOT of money this year... He'll be a Yankee though w/o a doubt.

it reminds me of willie mays hayes in major league 2 when he had that knee injury and wild thing gave him a hard time about it, then he goes out and steals 3 bases. chipper got called out and finally hit a homer. maybe it'll light a fire under their asses

^well, unless this shit was started b/t them two as a way to light some fires.........bickering b/t what should be two team leaders will not help anything.....even if we have only scored one run 36 innings

our name keeps coming up in trade rumors around the league (i.e. Teixera and Bhuerle) but more than likely we'd probably have to give up Salty to get anything, esp. Teixera.

....Would you guys rather keep McCann or Salty to play behind the plate if it came down to it?

^I love Chipper, but he can come off as an asshole, and I just don't think it gets any classier than John Smoltz so I believe I'll have to side with him on this one

it's true again

NL getting owned by the AL as usual

IMO the braves need to strip the team down and start over. get rid of chipper jones, andruw jones, bob wickman, hudson, smoltz (to the tigers ftw!)etc. The only veterans worth keeping would be soriano and renteria. They should convert Saltalamacchia(sp b/c i dont feel like looking it up) to a 1B. I have no dislike/like of the braves. This is just an unbiased opinion.

It'd take a year or 2 to turn it around, but it isnt like they're gonna win a WS the next 2 years anyways.

i almost agree with boobs about blowing up the team

we have a couple of great pieces to start with, mccann, salty, francoeur, johnson, etc. -- and plenty of dead weight veterans, andruw, chipper, etc.

unfortunately, we won't do any rebuilding until cox and schuerholz are gone, which will be after 2008 at the earliest

do we trade him by the deadline and try to get something back in return from someone who thinks they can turn him around or he's just in a bad slump.. or do we just let it ride out and let him dart during free agency?

..should have dealt him last year when he was still doing well and could have commanded something back

^its not a "Do we trade him or not" thing. We can't trade him......Dru is a 5/10 player which means he can't be traded without his consent....which he won't give.

ahh forgot all about that.. what if a team went ahead and worked out an extension for him.. do you think theirs a chance he would consent then or still try to wait for free agency and see if the bidding teams go higher

^i think he will wait and let them bid. Schuerholz was on ESPN tonight and stated that Andruw has told him he wants to finish out the year here. Scherholz also said that he wants to keep andruw around.....but with his declining performance, and the money(deserved or not) will be too much to keep him here(which im not too sad about anymore)

yeah im starting to not care so much about it anymore.. I am glad that we kept Smoltz around even though some people wanted to trade him last year around this time. I thought that with the new ownership we wouldn't be doing much spending for a few years but our names are coming up on quite a few trade rumors for some big time players so maybe they will come in and spend right away(doubtful)

pretty sure that doesn't matter if they're being traded.. i wasn't talking about us trying to sign the guys in free agency.. neither of the guys i was referring to(Buehrle and Teixera) are 10-5 guys so unless they have a no trade clause in their contract then it doesn't matter where they want to play

That beef with Chipper and Smoltz was hilarious. It goes on and on, and is so girly. I'd respect them so much more if Smoltz just said, "Chipper Jones is acting like a big pussy," and Jones replied with, "Old Man Smoltz can blow me."

chipper just needs to shut his mouth. smoltz is a first ballot hall of famer who is the record holder in post season wins, and is just about as reliable as you can be for a 40 year old. chipper is probably a HOFer, but has spent the better part of the last 4 years on the DL for some real pussified ailments.

i still think that HR he hit after being called out doesn't work in his favor either

The Braves are a fucking joke right now and I hope that Schuerholtz decides to go ahead and throw in the towel and start rebuilding. I wasn't even really rooting for the Braves to win last night as much as I was just hoping they would score a FUCKING RUN! They made Andrew Miller look like Johan Santana (also Miller is arguably the worst hitting pitcher since Al Leiter).

I hope the Braves try to deal for Texeria because he is a former GT guy and fills an obvious need at 1B. Salt can become an OF or get traded if it means we can get a young 40 HR guy like Texeria.

Andruw should waive his no trade clause just because of how horribly bad he has been this season. He should do that as a service to the Braves organization and to Brave fans.

we suck

there are rumblings that TP could get fired if we don't straighten up soon -- as much as he is loved by the organization, i doubt it will happen though

i think a move for buehrle would make sense unless we have to give up salty and escobar in the package -- with escobar looking like a stud, though, elvis andrus should be big time trade bait and our best prospect

it's hard to think about blowing up the team just yet but if we can't stay within 3 or 4 games by the end of july, it has to be done

build around francoeur, mccann, kj, diaz, and move salty to first -- we have a pretty big window if these guys continue to produce, we just need pitching

dump willie harris, smoltz, hudson, wickman, thorman, whoever to get a couple young pitchers with more promise than hiram davies

i can kinda understand dumping hudson and the rest, but willie harris? he's only 28/29 years old and it's not like he's lacked production. that's just crazy talk given how well he's played this year. if not for hudson's slide lately, i'd say you were crazy for that, too. you should do well to remember the burden mike hampton is on the payroll. it's odd, like a cloud of bitterness overtook this team or something. i'm pretty sure it's a cancer caused by the jones boys. fairly certain a congressional act should be implemented to have them destroyed.

Harris looks like he can be an Endy Chavez type. A good role player but exposed as a mediocre ballplayer if he gets to play everyday. Definitely a guy you'd want to hang on to if he knows his role but also definitely has ZERO trade value.

Endy could have signed on as a starter somewhere this year but loved the team and his role so he stayed (too bad he got hurt)..

Getting healthy against the Nats, I'll take it. Big night for Chipper so far 3/4 with 4RBI. I guess since Andruw cant hit worth a fuck he's been reduced to just trying to bunt a runner over.
